This point is that he was fully dressed in a trooper uniform, getting out of a identifiable Trooper car, whereas the other guy was wearing plain clothes and in an unmarked vehicle with lights
I know this happened almost 10 years ago now, but I think this video should be required viewing at every police academy nationwide, even today. It's clear that the Bergen County PD unmarked officers didn't notify New Jersey State Police that they would be operating in that area. It's important to note that one of the factors of the 1986 Miami FBI shootout leading to the deaths of two agents was a complete lack of communication and coordination between FBI and local police. We have the same situation here. If Bergen County PD had simply notified the other agencies in the immediate area of their operation, it could have gone a long way to avoiding this confrontation. In light of what happened, those same agencies are very lucky that this situation didn't go more sideways than it did. The attitude and actions of the Bergen County PD officers is inexcusable. They're in plain clothes being confronted by a uniformed Trooper in a clearly marked patrol car. They had the obligation to immediately go safe on weapons and produce their credentials. Keep in mind that the high speed tactical gear that Bergen County was wearing can be purchased online by anyone. So their apparent claim that tactical gear establishes their legitimacy is complete BS. Note that one of the Bergen County officers popped the rear hatch of their mini-van specifically to show off and brag about their tactical gear in an apparent attempt to intimidate the NJ Trooper. I'm curious why the NJ State Trooper didn't immediately call for additional units as well as a supervisor, lights and siren. In the video he says multiple times that there were police impersonators operating in that area very recently, and clearly these guys he's confronting now, who are unknown to him, are armed. So going up against multiple armed suspects single handedly seems like very poor tactics. That said, I admire the huge brass ones on this guy. Unfortunately huge brass ones in a law enforcement context tend to result in an early grave. It's very easy to judge and make comments after the fact, and it's extremely difficult to make critical decisions under stress in the heat of the moment. I know that most of the folks commenting on this video here have no concept of that. I sincerely hope this was used as a learning tool for all agencies in NJ, if not nationwide. There is absolutely no legitimate reason today for a lack of communication between agencies, and no excuse whatsoever for anything like this to happen. That said, I'm very happy to see that all involved survived.

The Latinos, which is derived from LATIN includes Italians, whom had their asses kicked by the Germans beginning in Roman times.
To DC fun fact people think New Jersey copied the Nazis but it was actually the Nazis who copied New Jersey. When the NJSP was established in 1921 their first Superintendent was H. Norman Schwartzcoph Sr. Came up with their uniforms. Which was an old U. S. Cavalry Uniform from WWI because Scheartzcoph Sr. was a Cavalry Officer in WWI. So it was actually backwards.

Bergen County Police Department was eventually merged with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. I believe this incident was one of the reasonings behind it.

They're generally nice guys that are enmeshed in county politics.

JOSE ROSADO: The troopers think that they are God when operating on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. They stop and ticket disproportionate numbers of minorities with impunity and hope that you fight the ticket (court OT). It has been that way forever ... under conservative Republican and liberal Democrat administrations. The good news is that once you leave the highways in NJ you rarely deal with the state police. While the demographics of virtually every state institution has changed over the years, the NJSP is still overwhelmingly white and male.
Elena Durant: I hope that you’re joking. The NJ State Police write tickets on the NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway. I would imagine that vest wearing, plainclothes county detectives are working someone important to public safety, not just generating revenue from the taxpayers in the form of tickets.
It wasn't a confrontation , the State Trooper got in the middle of an overcover operation...that's why so many more plainclothes officers were in tow, all the State trooper needed to find out was the color of the day...and ask them for it...
So instead of leading by example, staying calm, following the police officers requests... A cop when confronted by another cop kicks off and does THAT. And regular civilians are being shot and murdered for walking in their own neighbourhoods. Discraceful abuse of power.
The Bergen County Officers were disciplined, slap on the wrist, nothing happened to the NJ Trooper because he was in the right. The Bergen County Police Department was later merged into the Bergen County Sheriff's Department (ending the Bergen County Police Department), partly due to budget reasons partly due to the Bergen County Police Department being an out of control agency nobody wanted or needed in the first place.
That Trooper stood his ground. Despite being outnumbered. While watching this heated exchange? He behaved like he was trained....Professionally. . . Wonder if that trooper was former military? If I recall correctly, removing the hat during a heated dispute is a gesture drill instructors and drill sergeants used to put aside their rank and talk to their recruits person to person.
"What is your malfunction, soldier ?!"- these cops illustrate how hyperaggresive and escalating they are. Even to each other. They've got to dial it way back, or they're going to die of hypertension, heart attack, alcohol/ drug abuse, and quite possibly give each other lead poisoning...
Not for Marines. They use the brim of their campaign covers to peck you in the face......
Jersey Troopers badge is on their hat, I keep think he was going to really go ballistic each time the hat came off so the locals wouldn't see the badge number.
Thanks Field Marshal 🙄
Yes Most Of Nj State Troopers Are Former Military
The state police department is right it is his jurisdiction. They know that and Bergen county knows that
This is how they treat each other, imagine if you were a citizen. New Jersey’s finest! Law-enforcement wonder why there’s a disconnect between them and citizens.
it is not n will never be LAW enforcement. It IS do as your boss says enforcement.
OH, they can't pull their gun on other cops, but they can on random motorists!
The trooper knows the law,and knows how reinforce it
No they do not know the law period.
Sounds like the only thing he knows is how to immediately escalate a simple traffic stop when he is butt hurt. Why did he just not hand over his Driver's License and proof of insurance and then explain his situation, while PROPERLY introducing himself. Instead the undercovers immediately went into pack dog mode.
The highways of NJ certainly DO BELONG to the State Troopers !!!! HANDS DOWN, THEY are the Authority ......
On another note... Secaucus exit has some good food.... coming up in 3 miles...🙂🙂
Actually youre better off not stopping until after youve left New Jersey
Some of the best food is in NJ. Cultural diversity, dishes from the all over the world. Go back to the Olive Garden, suck a bread stick

State trooper is so right!
Shirley Moore they generally are. State is pretty legit in jersey they are trained and trained hella good, i knew quite a few who could pull anything from the book and how they would attempt the scenario in seconds and many other ways of completing the task.

@@sosuapimp8449 Trooper is right... just because you have flashing lights and tactical gear doesnt mean you're a cop. Look up Jeremy Dewitte on youtube.... there are Police Impersonators everywhere especially on highways they pull people over and rob them.

Now thats real professionalism from both sides. If I lived in Jersey I would feel safe
The New Jersey Turnpike is owned by the Turnpike Authority, which the highway travels through multiple jurisdictions, so sometime you'll get a municipal or county cop who will make a motor vehicle stop on the Turnpike.
The Garden State Parkway is owned by the Parkway Authority, which the highway travels through multiple jurisdictions, and sometimes you'll get a municipal or county cop make a motor vehicle stop on the parkway.
The New Jersey State Police does not own the New Jersey Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway. Troopers are assigned to handle accident reports, enforce motor vehicle laws, and also enforce trucks that are overweight on the Turnpike and the Parkway but the State Police does not own the Turnpike or the Parkway in anyway shape or form.
that state trooper did right, I would have done the same thing .. NJ turnpike has got to be one of the Most Dangerous turnpikes in the nation as far as corruption and crime is involved .. the countless toys and cigarettes etc 18 wheelers that get hijacked that never makes the papers and like NJ finest said ‘you don’t know what goes on out here’ and thats a real statement .. “its like a pathway a rich man has to travel to either safety or success” ..
Ive done the same thing
@DC NY troopers dress like garbage men. Excluding the Irish and Slavics, NJ troopers think they are the Gestapo. Which is odd, because the Gestapo we're German and most NJ troopers, including the BOSS are Latinos.
If the trooper was so concerned about the cops being impersonators, why would he let him walk and get his ID out of the call. I call bullshit.
Perfect analysis by you! The trooper was BS-ing! He let the cop freely go into his car. He could've shot the trooper dead. So clearly the trooper knew he was legit.
All of us speeders on the NJ Turnpike that road past this appreciated this encounter!
Lmao fr so many people got away with doing at least something lol
Bergen County Police Department was eventually merged with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. I believe this incident was one of the reasonings behind it.
Well, that, and also because the Sheriff's department has Constitutional precedence. Assuming they were forced to dissolve one of them, the Sheriff's department would win out.
FoneArc they finally shut down the Bergen county pd? I heard they were trying for years but last i heard it still hadn’t happened.
@@mark33545 2015 was the final merger.

State Troopers have jurisdiction on the highways.
Uh, in New Jersey, they have jurisdiction EVERYWHERE.
And Donut Shops!!!
All State Trooper's have jurisdiction on all public roads anywhere in there state.
NJ county cops go after working class people from adjacent counties while trying not to ticket someone that might be friends with their boss. They like to set up vehicle inspection checkpoints to make sure your vehicle is up to date and you're the type of person they think should be allowed to travel in the county. They're generally nice guys that are enmeshed in county politics.
@moz zo Enforcing? I don't understand what you're even talking about. Is English your second language?
I'm from New hampshire and everyone talks like that in NJ!! I was freaked out at first and still am!
This is totally normal here where I live in downstate NY and all of NJ (I live in New York)
Since this video was made, the Bergen County Police Department has been disbanded and no longer exists. The Bergen County Police in this video had a legal obligation to ID themselves but didn't because their egos got the better of them. Bye, bye BCPD.
Department full of stupid Ginny’s
They merged with the sheriff's office. Nobody lost their job 🤦🏻♂️ give the whole story next time
@bobhess - You're full of shit! Nothing remotely close to that happened! In 2015, Bergen County Police Department began a merger with the Bergen County Sheriff's, and it wasn't because of some supposed behavior of any officers........
@@cBodhi he never said they lost their job.

The Trooper is 100 correct..n he was Proffesional..he stood his ground..Also Dr. Evil has Roid Rage..
Why didn't the SP grab them, and throw them onto teh ground, like they do to peons
Roidrage at it's finest..
State Troopers ALL have a chip on their shoulders, especially this guy with a Napoleon complex......
I don't know in what year was this , looks old video but in that epoch the fights was good between different police officers

The state trooper should be respected..period! The highway is his domain. Their ego couldn’t let them be polite and cooperative to the trooper. If the trooper wanted to, he could have call for backup. This behavior is totally unacceptable by the undercover cops.
The whole state is their domain.
thats normal conversation in NJ and NYC, I see no issue.
Yea, I’m sure these are honest people who only care about helping old ladies across the street.
The trooper is 100% A police officer should wear a uniform… Not where regular clothes to trap people and drive around in regular cars
I feel sorry for whoever Roidrage, pulls over after this altercation!
The Trooper is 100% in the right.
Can't we all just be nice and play cop together?
Miscommunication! The undercover cops need to let the local police know when their working in the area otherwise something could go bad!
State police are above county police. This is totally unprofessional and ridiculous.
"I'll have your badge for this Mackey!!!" LOL
Wow, these guys disrespecting this State Trooper.
Legend has it they are still on the side of the Turnpike arguing back n fourth to this day
Someone should give these guys guns and pay them to confront people. They clearly have the right temperament...
This is the most Jerseyiest arguement I've ever seen..
If is how they treat each other imagine how they treat minorities
That state trooper should have arrested that county cop. You don't talk to a state trooper like that. The SP tell you to do something, you DO IT!!

THANK YOU
Wait a minute doesn't State Police have jurisdiction on the interstate. That would be a ticket to fight in court.
Hey bozo was no ticket issued
Uh, dude, the State Police have jurisdiction EVERYWHERE.
@@stupid47 ...Usually, whoever's makes the stop has jurisdiction.
Imagine being the pulled over driver 😂. All he needed was popcorn.
It wasn't a confrontation , the State Trooper got in the middle of an overcover operation...that's why so many more plainclothes officers were in tow, all the State trooper needed to find out was the color of the day...and ask them for it...
SHAME ! That's the police we dream to have in place , to SERVE and PROTECT us ?
If cops treat cops like that -- imagine how they treat us citizens.
So instead of leading by example, staying calm, following the police officers requests... A cop when confronted by another cop kicks off and does THAT. And regular civilians are being shot and murdered for walking in their own neighbourhoods. Discraceful abuse of power.
Not abuse dipshit, it is THEIR job! Why don't you try it?
And these are the ones that decide which one of us goes to jail 🤯
Well actually they decide if you go to court, then the Judge decides if you go to jail.
“Where you from, Morristown?” 😂😂😂

I'm thankful for theses good officers that keeps us safe from harm
Looks like a uniformed car on scene would have prevented all of this. His back up being plain clothes didn't help.
Imagine being the first person the trooper pulls over after this clusterfuck.
I wonder what the outcome was?
Trooper was relieved of his badge
The Bergen County Officers were disciplined, slap on the wrist, nothing happened to the NJ Trooper because he was in the right. The Bergen County Police Department was later merged into the Bergen County Sheriff's Department (ending the Bergen County Police Department), partly due to budget reasons partly due to the Bergen County Police Department being an out of control agency nobody wanted or needed in the first place.

That Trooper stood his ground. Despite being outnumbered. While watching this heated exchange? He behaved like he was trained....Professionally. . . When I heard the Trooper mention that phony cops were suspected to be working the turnpike? Yeh the Trooper was justified when he asked for ID. A simple showing of such and a quick explanation would've made everything nice. Unfortunately? EGO came in to play. I was embarrassed for both sides tho. Now only their respective superiors have to sort this confrontation out. So in the future? Episodes like this never happen again......It could become deadly.
