  • Part two of my backpacking trip along the Mogollon Rim Trail across Arizona sees me leave Sedona and head 90 mile east to Pine. This stretch involves three big descents into amazing canyons - Wet Beaver Creek, West Clear Creek and Pine Canyon.

The hike for water, as though it seems. Nothing like a burning thirst to make you appreciate water.

Couldn’t agree more, my appreciation for cold water went through the roof after my first hike in the American Southwest.

Wow, thanks for the amazing videos! I hiked the AZT in 2023 and the desert section of the PCT in 2013. I think I’ve fallen in love with desert hiking! Now, I’m considering either the Mogollon Rim Trail or the GET. Honestly, I didn’t really enjoy the section behind Pine over the Mogollon Rim on the AZT; I found it a bit boring. How would you compare the MRT and the GET? Which one did you like better, and did you find one of the trails more difficult than the other? How long did it take you to complete them, and if you had to choose one, which would it be?

@@walking-away Hi, both trails are very similar in that they are very rugged and remote. Both trails also require a fair degree of navigation especially the GET as there aren’t any way posts/ way markers anywhere on trail and a lot of the trail you have to self navigate across open country. Both trails are harder than the AZT in that there are no trail angels or trail magic anywhere and you will e lucky to see another hiker along the way. The MRT took me 29 days I think, and the GET took 48 days. If I were to do one again it would be the GET especially the part from Monticello to the end, very rugged and remote with great views. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Must be nice having a bit of company in that lonely place. Hard going, probably the hardest you have done in terms of underfoot walking.

Yep. One of the days was really rough underfoot with all the stones and pebbles.
