Silly question perhaps but I’d love to know your minimalist hair and skin care routine. Your hair is so pretty and healthy. I saved $2400 a year when I stopped coloring my hair two years ago. I wish I stopped a lot sooner!!!
I do use essential oils and recommend good quality ones. I moved away from conventional shop bought cleaners and use white vinegar, bicarb and EOs instead for a lot of my daily cleaning.
I have never owned a car! I have lived most of my life in a small town where I walked or cycled everywhere. When I lived in a large city I used the subway and public transport. I'm in the UK and I understand that the large distances in the US might not make being careless possible but it's never been a problem for me. Would like to hear if you have any other projects planned. I particularly enjoyed seeing the wonderful storage unit for outdoor clothes, shoes etc that your husband made in the garage.
I really wanted to try to get rid of our microwave when we moved into this house…but the rest of my family members did not agree!!! Maybe once the kids are grown and moved out we can downsize that appliance. The coffee mug comment made me giggle! They do make nice gifts! ❤️
Good list! Your hair looks great by the way. If you don’t like spending time in the kitchen, I do recommend an instant pot because you can dump everything in front a chilli or a soup and just forget about it.
I do the dump and forget with my crock pot! Ha ha! Does an instant pot have a ‘warm’ setting…so that family members could enjoy the food at different times? That’s what I love about the crock pot. The food is ready and warm when we are…even if it’s a busy evening and we aren’t all able to sit down together. ❤️
Hi! For you QA video, what are your top 3 fave mom hacks? What is your typical morning routine? What are your 3 must have items in your household? Any money saving tips?
I would say that I matched about 60% of your list. I live near Disneyland, so I did have an Annual Pass at one time. They’re too expensive and restrictive now. We also used to have Universal Studios passes and Knott’s Berry Farm passes. We don’t currently. I do use an Apple Watch. As a teacher, I’m not supposed to use my phone in class (shhh…). So, it helps to have it on recess duty. I was gifted an Instant Pot, used it once and gave it away. Too difficult for me. I’m with you on Costco. We’ve jut never needed it. Great video!!
How do you keep toiletries and hygiene products minimal and organized with a big family? Always looking for ideas on this. Thanks! :) Love your channel!
I can say I definitely agree with most of these! I have a very small trampoline (like less than a foot off the ground) that I use sometimes as an exercise distress activity; and I do like my colourful fun socks and nail polish from time to time. Other than that and the robe, I’d never even consider most of them, my crockpot, handheld mix etc are plenty (instant pot has never really appealed to me).
Interesting about your hair! My parents told me that when I was born, I had black hair with a white streak! As I got older, my hair has been various shades - around age 7 I had dirty-blonde hair with grayish streaks going back both sides from my temple. At age 50-something, I have some gray hair, but mostly it's brown with red highlights. I only ever dyed my hair once or twice with a box-kit when I was about 30, just for fun.
I remember feeling kind of embarrassed by my hair birthmark as a young teen…kids would call it a ‘skunk stripe’ - but I’ve embraced it now! Your hair sounds like it likes to try new things often! Ha ha! ❤️
I felt the same way about the smartwatch but then they tricked me into getting one and surprisingly I love it. Although it works in conjunction with the phone, it has some features that I am really happy with. For example the Apple Watch makes little taps on your wrist when it is time to make a turn when you’re using navigation
1. NOT renewing my Costco membership until I need rx glasses again. At which time, the $60 standard membership only. I am not stepping into that crazy mad store😂. 2. canceled my Amazon membership, they still deliver at $25 order. I do have groceries delivery at $39/6 months. So helpful. Microsoft 365 is $75 per year.
I had a lot of thoughts on various ones. Lol. I don’t use a lot of those either. I guess the main one I DO use a lot being robes. But really they’re my “coats” for all the outdoor animal feeding. So I have 3 which I call “light, medium and heavy.” (Depends on the weather and the light one is good for when the AC gives me a chill). We’ve had floor problems, so I’ve tried a whole lot of things. Thick, durable yoga/exercise mat worked well for awhile (the flimsy cheap ones not so much-they couldn’t survive the cat claws so well etc). I had a cushioned mat way back but I would never buy one again. It descentigrated and become super gross and for awhile making a bigger mess than regular foot dirt (even with all the animals). Looked filthy after awhile and would not survive the washing machine. I chucked it in the bin (and that rather contemptuously lol) and never looked back. Lol. The yoga mat does fine on delicate machine wash tho. But the flooring is so jacked up that I’m now using self adhesive carpet squares. But that really is just what works best here so far for a cracking and splitting floor. What do you do for vacations and personal fun? Also if my hair was that interesting, maybe I wouldn’t dye it either. Idk tho. I’m moving more away from permanent coloring and just occasionally using funky punk colors. (And that’s why I have one shower cap Bcuz that stuff is soooo messy lol and it helps the color set in better if I blow dry with the cap on). I’m looking forward to going a lot more grey so I can have mermaid hair for awhile ha ha (it doesn’t always show up on my darker hair now…except for some greys). The pastels are so pretty to me and I also love the purples and crimson/cherry reds and various other pink colors. I think one reason I didn’t buy this cheaper lake front “resort” property (I would have it as a permanent residence) is for the similar time share reasons. Easy arrangement to get into, but very hard to get out of if you change your mind. I noticed the property had been listed for over 2 months (Even in this hot cake market. Yikes!). One funny robe story was when I wore a leopard print one out and about and people kept saying I love your “coat.” 😅😅 Hilarious. It was really cute tho. Had a hood and fake sheep skin on the inside. But then again I’m a big fan of normalizing “lounge wear” in public. Mostly Bcuz it’s comfy and tends to keep me warmer when it’s cold out. I really love the fleece material tho. Keeps you really warm, is lightweight, dries fast, super soft and stores more easily than bulky, heavy coats. Plus I need material that moves with me and doesn’t impede me doing the chores out there and moving around a lot. Lol. Yes I live in the southeast, (where it’s often warm or too hot for words lol) but I did live up in Ohio and Chicago for awhile. But we do get all 4 seasons and winter can be a little rough for a couple of months, esp if you’re outdoors for awhile. We occasionally get temps in the teens and I’m pretty sure everyone thinks that’s at least kind of cold. 😅😅
A robe that doubles as a coat! Sounds like a great investment to me! Ha ha! Thanks for the question. I’ll be happy to answer it in my giveaway video - hopefully very soon! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Awesome. Thanks! Looking forward to watching. For real tho, other than summer, my robes get very well used. I’m out there multiple times a day no matter the weather. Also started the “porch project.” Waiting to finish in a couple of days when we get a brief drop in the temp. 😬
Most of the things on your list I have never owned either with the exception of these four: I've had a storage unit twice in my life and it really was a waste of money because I ended up getting rid of almost everything that was being stored in them. I've had a rice cooker and I used it to also make farro, quinoa, lentils and a few other staples. It lasted me for well over a decade but I have not replaced it. I just use a pot now. I cut back on mani/pedis but when my I get some more of my debt eliminated I'll probably start doing them again occasionally. I do use essential oils in homemade cleaning supplies. It's better and healthier than air fresheners which have too many chemicals in the fragrance ingredients which are often linked to depression/mood swings. I learned a few years back that Febreze has cancer causing agents which is why I make my own air freshener now.
Those sound like good benefits for essential oils! The cleaning product I make calls for lemon juice - i suppose a lemon scented oil could replace that? ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Fresh lemon juice is fine. I use lemon myself but if you want other scents like orange, pine, lavender or peppermint for cleaning and air freshener you could try those essential oils.
I love seeing videos of what other people don't buy. The one thing I do buy that was on your no buy list is annual/season passes. I have them for the LA Zoo, Knott's Berry Farm, and Universal Studios Hollywood. We go to these places often, last year we went like 2-3 times a month. I also have a fitbit because I work out and run so I use it for that. Plus at work I'm not allowed to use my phone so I check the time on my watch. All the other things you mentioned, I Def don't buy
FYI: Try an anti-fatigue mat in a store or a friend's house before you buy one. I got one for a commercial kitchen and it caused shooting pains in my legs! I was much better off without it!
I have 3 tables in my living room that once belonged to my parents, who have both passed. I have to get rid of some items of mine and want to know from you how to decide which ones to get rid of?
I know this may seem early, but my question would be 'how do you simplify Christmas?' It seems to be thrust on us earlier and earlier each year and I'd like to not get caught up in all the hype-and expenditure of course!
Yes, that's a great question! Everyone I know gets way too stressed at Christmas. We should be enjoying our time together. And it's absolutely not too early. I am a greeting card merchandiser and we're getting Christmas cards next week.
I am with you till Amazon , We , my sister and I are older people and because of health reasons we can’t get out to the stores so Amazon works out best for us. Great channel. Thanks for sharing 😊
Hey, Angela. 🌞 Very unique and beautiful birth mark you have in your hair. 😊 For the kitchen sink floor area I use a plushy, comfy, affordable and machine washable bath mat. You should try it. 😊 And my question is: "What's that one purchase you regret buying or getting rid of?" 🌹
Bath mats definitely seem to be cuter! I will need to look into options! I do want a mat that can be easily swept or vacuumed for sure! But I guess if it can be thrown in the washing machine that is a good option too! Thanks for the question! ❤️
I shied away from essential oils for a long time too, for the same reason. But my son was diagnosed with liver disease last year and I wanted to use more natural products. Laura from the RUclips channel Our Oily House has an online course about essential oils that I found really helpful. It answered a lot of my questions, and she isn't overly "salesman-y" about getting you to buy oils from her. She has really practical tips for only using a few very basic oils to get started and recipes for all kinds of household cleaners and bath and body products included in her course.
Oh wow! I’m sorry to hear of the diagnosis for your son! I’m glad you’ve found some great alternatives for him! I will check out that channel. Thanks! ❤️
Do you know everything is a chemical? Don’t let the term ”natural” fool you. Even water is a chemical, H2O. Just buy stuff with as little ingredients as possibly, like Vanicream and Cerave.
Essential oils are wonderful. Any health food store is usually more than happy to help you become more knowledgeable and comfortable with using the oils. Lavender oil, for example, is good for anxiety and helps with getting a good nights sleep.
The basics that I understand of oils is that you can use them both internally and externally too…right? So, you can make rub on concoctions but also ingest them? Which works best for night time? ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage I place a dab of lavender oil behind my ears when I have anxiety. When my children were young I would place 2-3 drops of oil on their pillow.
Hi Angela, great video as always😊 I agree with most of your non purchases (80% easily), but I do get Amazon Prime, mainly because it includes the tv service so we can watch films and sport, and have free deliveries, for £8.99 a month. Good value, I’d say xx My question would be, you work so hard, what do you do to treat yourself / relax?
Very interesting list :) I agree on most but you are missing out not having a cozy bath robe & I was gifted an anti~fatigue mat & Love it ! I am considering getting my husband for next to his work bench . Question: Have you ever had a friend or family member get on board with minimalism and then stop saying it was just too hard to do ?
For Q&A: who are some of your favorite artists? I am curious if there is a correlation between one's taste in art and how they curate their own living space.
Love your content! There is not just simplicity in what you preach but also in how you present the content! Okay so I would suggest you to consider getting an instapot. It actually replaces a lot of pots and pans and truly makes cooking simple. And for the question - How do you keep your space, especially kitchens and bathrooms, continuously tidy? I have experienced that its easier to do big declutterings and cleaning but very soon things start creeping back up and I loose the motivation to clean constantly. Thanks!
Which pots and pans does your instapot replace for you? I do use a crock pot somewhat regularly…especially on days I know that we will need to do a ‘grab and go’ meal, or each of us will eat at different times. I can just put a stew or something in there and keep it on warm - for everyone to enjoy when they are ready. With an instant pot is that possible? Also, thanks for the question! That’s a great one! ❤️
Do you know….can those standard black ones go under a thin woven rug? Or would that be a trip hazard…? The anti fatigue mats are kind of mounded/rounded at the edge, right? ❤️
Q&A Are you a natural born minimalist or a convert? If you've always tended towards minimalism do you think it is more due to your personality, upbringing or the culture you grew up in? Thanks!
I feel it is what stage in life you're at as to what products you use and services. My question. Do you really feel that it is necessary for people to know that you use minimalism as a choice in life?
Practical items and list! I have red hair similar to yours. I probably have 15 different colors of hair on my head from blonde, to bright red, some white, and various shades of auburn. I think hair dye would look incredibly fake and odd on me. It's smelly, messy, and expensive. I'll stick with my multi-colored hair. Thanks for your list!
If you can’t find a cute anti fatigue mat I think you just found yourself a new business venture 😉 “the cottage anti fatigue mat collection... where function and cottage cute come together “
Ha ha! I don’t have a passion for floor mats - so, I’m pretty sure that business venture would be a bust! Maybe someone watching this video will take it on! Ha! ❤️
Essential oils are great for DIY all purpose cleaners and room deodorizers! Just recycle old spray bottles and never buy expensive chemical-laced products again. Do I sound like a commercial? Sorry!🙃
Haha. I’m up in the Canadian prairies and have had one of them since I was 13 or 14, and i am 33 now. I keep my house cold in the winter evenings/nights and getting out of bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night; well, it’s pretty necessary. I do have two, but that is more a wash back up thing, and I could live with just the one from when I was a teenager. It’s surprisingly durable, but is also a kid’s robe (I’m very short and small) so maybe it is more durable for that reason. I admit during the coldest nights I have been known to wear both at the same time!
Does anything on this list surprise you... or concern you? :)
Actually, no. As a minimalist myself, it's something obvious. 😊
Yes it does
Makes sense❤

Silly question perhaps but I’d love to know your minimalist hair and skin care routine. Your hair is so pretty and healthy. I saved $2400 a year when I stopped coloring my hair two years ago. I wish I stopped a lot sooner!!!
I can answer that question in the giveaway video - hopefully soon! ❤️
I do use essential oils and recommend good quality ones. I moved away from conventional shop bought cleaners and use white vinegar, bicarb and EOs instead for a lot of my daily cleaning.
Yes I have heard that there are definitely differences between the low grade ones and those that are more ‘pure’ ❤️
Oh wow! It would be so difficult to not own a car here, but it’s amazing that you have been able to go without one! Thanks for the question! ❤️
Hi, I like using essential oils in my home, thank you for sharing.
What do you use the essential oils for mainly? Lots of things? ❤️
Never had cable tv, storage unit, microwave oven. I do have plenty of coffee mugs but never actually bought one for myself. They were all gifts.
I really wanted to try to get rid of our microwave when we moved into this house…but the rest of my family members did not agree!!! Maybe once the kids are grown and moved out we can downsize that appliance. The coffee mug comment made me giggle! They do make nice gifts! ❤️
I’m a teacher and also inherited some from my family! But I’ll use those forever lol. I don’t think I’ve ever bought for myself…
Yes it does
Hi! For you QA video, what are your top 3 fave mom hacks? What is your typical morning routine? What are your 3 must have items in your household? Any money saving tips?
Great questions! Thanks! ❤️
Walmart has some anti fatigue mats! I am considering one. I was a lab tech for 12 yrs in my past life! They help
Are the Walmart ones cute? Ha ha! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage i think so. They have patterns on them
I would say that I matched about 60% of your list.
That makes sense about the watch! That’s an application I’ve never thought about! Thanks for watching! ❤️
I was using essential oils and diffusers and my cats developed asthma. I don’t use it anymore and they are good now.
Oh, interesting! Do you think it was the oils themselves or the fact that they were airborne from the diffuser that caused issues for them? ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Both I think
How do you keep toiletries and hygiene products minimal and organized with a big family? Always looking for ideas on this. Thanks! :) Love your channel!
Thanks for the question! ❤️
Oh really? Interesting about the tapping!!! ❤️
That's really cool! I'm looking to upgrade my Samsung s9 lol to Apple. I wait until my phone is on its last leg up upgrade 😅😅
Yay!! Best of luck on the project!!!
@@ArrowHillCottage Lol. Thanks! 😅😅
Most of the things on your list I have never owned either with the exception of these four:
I've had a storage unit twice in my life and it really was a waste of money because I ended up getting rid of almost everything that was being stored in them.
A friend told me that if you ever worked in an ER you would never ever ever buy your kids a trampoline.
I am not even sure if they still make these, but I had an ER trip when I was little from a metal swingset. Everybody had those swings back then.
That’s awesome that you can take advantage of season pass discounts! And, makes sense about the watch! ❤️
FYI: Try an anti-fatigue mat in a store or a friend's house before you buy one. I got one for a commercial kitchen and it caused shooting pains in my legs! I was much better off without it!
Oh no!! Thanks for the tip! ❤️
That’s a great question! Thanks! ❤️
Totally great that it works for your life! It definitely is a great convenience! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Always happy to help. 🤗🌹
Good value, I’d say xx
My question would be, you work so hard, what do you do to treat yourself / relax?
Having the tv included is nice! Does it offer all channels or just a few that you select? Thanks for the question! ❤️
Ha ha! The winter brings plenty of hoodie sweatshirts! ❤️ thanks for the question!
For Q&A: who are some of your favorite artists? I am curious if there is a correlation between one's taste in art and how they curate their own living space.
That’s a great question! I’ll be happy to answer it! Thank you!!! ❤️
I just bought anti fatigue mats on Amazon. I agree some aren't cute but I found a great black and white boho one. I can send you the link if you want.
Do you know….can those standard black ones go under a thin woven rug? Or would that be a trip hazard…? The anti fatigue mats are kind of mounded/rounded at the edge, right? ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage I would say no bc the edges are curved
I'll whole-heartedly second not signing into a timeshare. We are helping a widowed friend try to get out of it. What a nightmare!
Oh man…❤️
We are the same 😊
Ha ha! ❤️
Q&A Are you a natural born minimalist or a convert? If you've always tended towards minimalism do you think it is more due to your personality, upbringing or the culture you grew up in? Thanks!
Good questions! Thank you! ❤️
I feel it is what stage in life you're at as to what products you use and services. My question. Do you really feel that it is necessary for people to know that you use minimalism as a choice in life?
Good question! Thanks! ❤️
Multi colored hair is ok with me - I can’t imagine spending the time, money or energy on dye! ❤️
Ha! ❤️
If you are not a foodie who spend a lot of time in the kitchen, then you NEED a rice cooker and an IP. 😅😅😅 I love them, press a button and sit back.
Ha ha! See, that’s what I feel my crock pot os good for! ❤️
Question: were you and your husband both always desiring a simple life? How did you get him interested in it?
Oh that’s a great one! Thanks! ❤️
Hi
I really enjoy your tips and videos.
What is your name? Just out of curiousity
Hi! My name is Angela ❤️
How do I get my wife into minimalism? I think more like a minimalist and she always justifies spending instead of saving.
Great question! I know a lot of people have a similar one - so I will save my answer for the giveaway video! ❤️
What do your family and friends think of your lifestyle?
Good one! Thanks! ❤️
Essential oils are great for DIY all purpose cleaners and room deodorizers! Just recycle old spray bottles and never buy expensive chemical-laced products again. Do I sound like a commercial? Sorry!🙃
I like the thought of not having to buy cleaning supplies! ❤️
For your Q&A session: What do you know now that you wish you knew at age 18?
Good one! ❤️
Thank you.@@ArrowHillCottage
How do you live in MN and not have a cozy bathrobe? teehee
Ha ha! Hoodie sweatshirts are a staple for me in the winter! ❤️
Are you a Minimalist in your finances?
Thanks for the question! ❤️
Sometimes I wonder how much time and money I’ve saved by never having bought coffee or alcohol.
I’m sure it is a whole lot!!! ❤️
Costco pays for itself if you buy the gas.
I’m glad it works for you! ❤️
Don’t ever dye your hair. It is so beautiful as is!
Awe, thank you so much! ❤️
