I have been praying to hear a pastor say these same words . I've wondered why we call ourselves "Christians" yet look nothing like Christ . I'm ready for this . It's time the church wakes up! Why have we become so selfish, I mourn when I hear all these self help motivation speaker "pastors " as Christians we shouldn't follow or praise our pastors we are to follow Christ and die to ourselves .. we see so many pastors being glamorized these days as if they are rockstars, celebrities or our God. We tip toe around so that people stay in church and are not "offended " we cry about being treated unfairly everywhere . Jesus was and will be the only one who suffered true "unfairness " let's preach the truth and nothing but the Truth, the truth of Jesus .
Thank you Francis Chan for following Jesus everything you said resonated with the way I've been feeling about the church, God will see you through these times God bless

I love his teaching style. I am 3rd generation Pentecostal preacher and his style of teaching is very refreshing. His humor doesn't take away from the Gospel but it captures your attention!

I found this guy online and I can't stop listening to him. If this is an addiction then I want to overdose on it. The word of God is sweet to listen to through any persons he chooses to use.
here is a man who has literally spoken to millions of people, built an incredible ministry, influenced the lives of so many, has led I don't know how many to Christ, and he is longing for the church to be more than it is. He is not satisfied by our wordly standard of success as a pastor. He longs to be a part of something greater than what he is already experiencing. He is also admitting there are times he was too cowardly to share his faith and felt conficted. I am humbled.

It’s weird. I get the exact opposite feeling when I listen to Chan. To me he’s a fake and a false teacher.
3 yrs ago God called me out of the church. He told me come out of the church they are not teaching you the right things. I have gotten so close to God in the last 3 years. I am thankful to him for saving me.
Francis Chan is truly anointed! A message way ahead of its time, here we are in 2021 and the church is just now starting to get out of the building and wake up! (at least where I am) We need to take a hard look at ourselves and go back to scripture and look at the early church.

My eyes filled with tears, within the first few minutes of your message. I believe God has brought me here, as I seek a Spiritual Mentor since leaving the JW's two years now. I came upon this man of God Almighty,I am so drawn by his love and passion for God ,Jesus Christ,and The Holy Ghost ,I'm 75 was born again at 26 and heard many many preachers but none like God has annoited him for these last days ,I always looked for a place to worship God never found the place where Truth was preached

I have having doubts of God even existing, due to the never ending storms I keep facing, getting knocked down, getting back up to only get hit even harder and remain down, till I saw this video I stumbled on by accident. Although for a moment, he gave me hope and a smile I haven't had in awhile. Thank you for positing the video.

Thomas doubted Jesus and he was with him in the flesh. John the Baptist had moments of doubt. James was Jesus half brother and didn't believe Him. These men were with Him and are men we admire. Don't feel bad about doubt

Francis is so brutally honest, it’s refreshing. It feels like I can trust him because he’s not trying to persuade me. He preaches things that he finds uncomfortable to believe, but God says it, so he does.

I also felt that when you know that you have done wrongly and been doing things over again because God is merciful and he loves us big time that it is okay to do the same sin over and over because again it is human nature. Left a church after nearly 40 years of association - It was so sad - No love, compassion, care - It had evolved into a country club where people wer ein or out. clanging cimbals...[church?] - HOWEVER I am so thankful God answered specific prayers and led me to a new church where I am welcome! Praise HIS HOLY NAME!

It spoke to my heart that what Jesus wanted was for me to be willing to listen to what the Holy Spirit guides us to do and 100% without failing follow what the spirit guides us to do. I know that I'm willing to do my best. I may not be perfect and I may stumble along the way. And when I do I lift up my face up to Jesus, he wipes away my tears as I take His hand he picks me up and he dusts me off and sends me on my way again. And to that mission I am unfailing... I feel like this all the time. I constantly wonder what life would be like if Christians actually had faith God could do things, and answer prayer, and heal people. If 2 or 3 Christians walking down the street ran into someone hurt, or a car that wouldn't start. Or anything, and the Christians just said, No problem. And quoted Mathhew 18:19, prayed and the thing was fixed immediately. Why can't we do this. We could if we had faith. Jesus said we would do greater works that his. I know there are people still being healed by faith, saved by miracles, raised from the dead. But even the Christians have no faith..even if they see it videotaped, they think it's a scam. I see God do miraculous, unusual things all the time, that people say, well, you need to figure this out. You can't expect God is just going to step in and take care of it. Then when He does, they chalk it up to coincidence. Imagine how the world would change if Christians could actually realize and believe who they are in Christ. Even when I go to church and tell the people for instance that my power was out but God kept my oil lamp lit all night, even though the wick was too short to touch the fuel, they don't believe it. I asked God to keep it lit until I went to bed, and He did. But people just say, well I'm sure there is some logical explanation. I'm with Francis. I would love to see groups ofmChristians just say a prayer and see people healed, and people supernaturally protected from weather events. To see thieves and criminals stopped in the act of a crime by angels. We could have all of this, if we were just less jaded and blasé. I love listening to the Southern Baptist preachers like Paul Washer, or even John McArthur, and others, but they are so into the doctrine and learning the word, which I know is very I portent. But they focus no time on getting people to expect or believe that we could all be out changing people's lives. I'm not talking about prosperity and getting a new car. I'm talking about going to a cancer ward and healing everyone and emptying the hospitals. That's what we need.

John 14:23....their is a lack of love that leads to a lack of obedience. World sees such disobedieny Christians and calls us hypocrites and want nothing to do with Christianity....until Christians love God enough to obey Him, we will be a poor witness as a Church

The parable of the sower and the seed is therefore, an illustration of how the Word of God is veiled to those that do not long for it. The disciples desired to know. Another example is found in Malachi as compared with Psalm 73. In Malachi 3:14-15, "Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts? And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered". God's people saw that the wicked seemed to be doing better (according to this world's measure) than the godly. They saw it and that's what they said, but David, the Psalmist had the same question, and saw the same thing. But, his response was to talk to the Lord about it, and as he bared his heart to the Lord with these questions, God answered him. It was the same God, and it was the same people (the family of Jews), but on the one hand they came to their own conclusions, and on the other hand, God revealed His truth.
While much of what is being said here is true, we have to remember that it's not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of God...it's not a blanket one size fits all approach that sounds spiritual, it's our relationship with the Lord as we follow Him. There's a difference between what we think sounds 'right' and what we are led to do in daily life. We cannot do the work of the Spirit in the power and perception of the flesh (even about spiritual things). As for the communal approach that the early church took at first, it was not permitted to continue. The Lord sent persecution and scattered them. Further, you have to remember that the Lord Himself described the church as 'mixed'...two measures of leaven in a loaf, and a tree that filled the whole earth with the birds of the air nesting in its branches. We cannot wholly discern the wheat from the tares...God Himself will separate them, therefore you cannot be foolish...rather harmless as doves, but wise as serpents also.
Someone recommended me this video. I have a mixed feeling. After hearing people laughing in the audience as a response to his humor seasoned otherwise very serious message, I am getting the feeling that this assembly is USED TO ENJOYING the self-critical messages, because it gives them a feeling of righteousness (We are superior to others because we are understanding our faults, and we are proud that our pastor is so sincere and out-front). But the real test is this: is this changing anyone? IF people change after such a message, than the humor is a tool to repel hypocritical lectures. If not, than this was JUST entertainment, even if a weird kind, for connoisseurs.
+marcusdumitru Make no mistake, these people do not find joy in self-critical messages; the audience is not self-righteous. Even I laugh when I hear/speak the truths of God because he is amazing and his truth is mind blowing. These people are not laughing at him in the way you may think. Francis Chan has a funny personality but the audience is taking him seriously. May his comedic personality does not appeal to your sense of humor but that's ok. Don't let something so trivial such as laughter deter you; after all, not everyone in the video was laughing.
This was just a first impression. I understand his style of preaching. Chan does a terrific job in contextualizing the message for his audience. Some of those funny remarks may not be necessary for the sermon, but they sure keep the audience awake. I wander what happens AFTER the sermon. I mean, how do you apply this kind of self-criticism/introspection in a practical way? I heard some more messages meanwhile. I am searching for a deeper exegetic sermon, to see how he manages a more difficult text or doctrine or for an evangelistic message. Any recommendation?

When I listened to this video, I don't hear it as just self-criticism; that's not all it is. But to answer your question...I am not really familiar with Francis Chan; I only recently stumbled upon him. But if you want something deeper, check out Dan Mohler, Damon Thompson, and Todd White.

Just want to encourage you with (Proverbs 3:5-6-- Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.)
Do not be afraid to be brutally honest. Thank you for bringing this message to us all, as we/I need to be slap ourselves to wake the "unworthy-to-be-crap" up.
We shouldn't add or subtract things from the word of God, as that would essentially make it not the word of God.
(Matthew 6:33-34-- But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble)
One of the last Pentecostal Churches I went to, they were playing "Hang On Help Is On The Way" by the Eagles followed by some Bono or U2(Part of COEXIST One World Church) whilst the *Prayer Line* was going. Haven't been back in a "Church" for two/three years. But I have found peace, growth, knowledge and intimacy with G"d on a level that I never experienced in 25 years of playing Church.
Now in a small Home Group, motivated by The Last Reformation. Pentecostal Churches have lost the plot and made it all about money, and they are offending people and causing stumbling blocks. This guy doesn't seem to fit the "Religious Mould" and I'm enjoying his talks and love his energy; but I love Jesus more.....no offence, God bless.

This man is speaking so much truth and this audience can't stop laughing. Even when he says he's being serious they still laugh. What is wrong with you people?!!
I think their consciences are seared. They probably consider themselves carnal Christians, and just think that Francis Chan is just one of those super spiritual Christians who are on a different level, and it doesn't really apply to them. I ran into this at a church I used to go to a few years. I talked to the minister and told him that I felt this way, and that I felt the Lord was calling me to do work within the church to try to move it from a place open 3 hours a week on Sunday to a real living place...to help set up Bible study groups and prayer groups, and outreach.. They had none of that. They didn't even have any Sunday school or a youth group..nothing. He was complaining that no one was paying tithes and there was no money coming in, and I explained that I thought it was because the people did not look at Christianity as a 24/7 life, but as a one hour a week thing. The church had no significance in their lives. He told me that I was spending too much time in prayer, and putting too much thought into this. He said the church was fine the way it was, and that I needed to put my spiritual life in the back burner for a while, and focus on other things because I was getting too caught up in it. I was shocked. BTW he was removed as pastor 6 months later, by the diocese. They said he was incompetent. But many people think this way. Religion is OK in moderation, just don't get too into it. Keep it in perspective.
Its through joy that they are laughing. Good synergy makes people bond, laugh and smile together even when there are no jokes. That's when you know your in a good church.
Joe Om No. I'm sorry but I have to disagree. These people are laughing like it's a comedian on stage. He literally has to keep repeating that he's being serious. Joy is not non-stop laughter. Joy is that deep contentment even when things are going badly.
wmnoffaith1 This is a tragic story that is mirrored in many churches today. A church needs prayer - and much of it. So sorry for your let down by the 'church'.

Francis Chan is just always funny even when he speaks about the most serious things. He makes jokes and when he's serious, the way he express himself just makes us laugh even if we're so serious inside. And that's what I love about him.
First one I see who really speak the scriptures and say we are wrong and when I listen to him it makes me feel so good and not alone because I feel the same way and struggle a lot in church.
But he still always makes me laugh haha
