Man, there's nothing like raw honesty to make a guy want to support a company "Shelf life: Um... a year at least? How long will it stay flexible? Um.... a year at least?"
Doesn't hurt that this looks like exactly what I need :D

I'm not making anything at the moment but this is fantastic. I never really liked Kiwi Seal, and this looks like a nicer finish for this use than foam clay. This will definitely make getting a really nice finished look easier!

I would love to see this painted to see how smooth it gets!

That is a great idea, and for some reason it slipped my mind. I'll have to do that in the next video.

I've heard SO many great things about Gap Filla, especially from my maker community - but I have a question about how anything that has had Gap Filla applied looks post paint? I've used other products to cover seams and fill in, but they always stick out like a sore thumb after painting; and Kwik seal is even worse! I do a lot of large works and I try to hide seams as best I can. I understand that they kind of go with the turf, but if this performs the way it looks to do everything else it does - TAKE MY MONEY!!! lol

As far as how Gap Filla applied looks post paint: If you use GF first, and then use a primer or pore filler (like Prime, Rapid Fill or Fine Finish) over everything including the GF then when painting on top everything looks very uniform.

Do you recommend heat sealing foam that has gap filla or priming with prime and not heat sealing?

Good question. To heat seal or not to heat seal?
It depends on the type of foam you are using and the desired surface you want.
Example: if you want a smooth and even surface you may not want to heat seal because the surface of many types of foam will become mildly lumpy when heated. There are some high density foams that will stay smooth and even when heated, so always do a test when trying something new.
If you are going to heat seal I recommend to do that first before using the Gap Filla or Prime.

@@PropMonkeyStudio Thank you so much! I also found the 7 tips videos and pretty much binged all of the tutorials last night! Thank you for still answering my question though! I am using sks which I have viewed as higher density but the dimples can still occur. I decided to not heat seal and layer gap filla and rapid fill depending on the finish post sanding I will follow up with prime or fine finish then prime! Thank you for these awesome products! The first time I used I heat sealed after gap filla and kind learned why that not ideal but still very happy with the results and learning process!

Hey! If the stuff drys out after a few months (or years?). Can a little water be added into the pot and stirred?

    • @PropMonkeyStudio

Yes, you can add several drops of water and stir it in evenly.

Hey! I would love to try this product for my armor builds but it's sold out on TNT. When will it restock? Also will this stuff crack under flexion?

It is flexible as shown in the video, and it's back in stock at TNT Cosplay. 👍

How well do you reckon this would do at filling layer lines on 3d prints?

    • @PropMonkeyStudio
      @PropMonkeyStudio  3 года назад +4

      Short answer "No".
It will fill in the grooves and sand well, but the uneven hardness of the print and filler makes it difficult to get an even surface.
I have been working on a 3D print filler, but the plague has slowed down the development. There are those that find our "Fine Finish" product great for 3d prints, but it does shrink back a bit.

I threw it on an old test print to see, but it's not really dry enough to sand yet. Might have to try the 3d-printer resin for now. I've got plenty of foam projects I can use this on anyway. Excited to see what you're cooking up!
