- On Monday May 29, 2023 history was made at the Strasburg Railroad.
Norfolk & Western 611 operated for the last time at the Strasburg Railroad for the foreseeable future. This date also marks the birthday for the Queen of Steam as her build date is May 29, 1950.
Come along as I spend the day riding behind and capturing 611 making her final runs on the line before making the trip back down to her native land of Virginia.

I'm glad I was able to see 611 on her birthday and last day operating in Pennsylvania. Hope you enjoyed the ride and views of this beautiful locomotive.
Have you ever taken a train 🚉 ride in white river junction, Vermont because I did years ago 😊😊
Kind of reminds of my Dad's last run driving the 56 streetcar from McKeesport to Pittsburgh & back. 😢
Happy Birthday Norfolk & Western 611. 🎉🎊🎈
Cool shots! Glad we both got to see 611 before it left Strasburg
Awesome experience thank you JP great video
Thanks for taking us along! I really enjoy the slide show at the end of your videos. You're a very talented photographer.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful train ❤
Such a great video. I have to get back there and a bunch of other stations. Thanks Jay, fantastic as always.
Good lord, what a gorgeous train...
Love the shot of the train coming through the trees. ❤❤❤❤
Awesome video JP! Great you got to document it while it was there! I can't be sad it left, it's back close to me again now, I'll have to take me a trip through the Cumberland Gap and ride over to Roanoke and see her!👍
Nice video! I noticed that balloon when I was filming by the crossing, but I couldn't figure out what it was lol. I saw myself a few times too!
Nice lol. Thanks for checking out the video.
That was a rare moment having two steam engines pass each other this day and age. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Awesome video 🚂👍🚃
Thanks Brian
Excellent video of a beautiful locomotive.
Welcome to beautiful Lancaster County!
Awesome video! I liked both the riding and railfaning aspects put together, provided a nice coverage of the last weekend.
Have you seen her in person? I'm glad I got to catch her one final time for the foreseeable future.
@@JPVideos81 I’ve been fortunate enough to catch her on three separate occasions; saw her in the 28th this year for the last time for the foreseeable future as well
I had to chuckle at the “Balloon” sounds.
Happy Birthday 611!! 💖🎊🚂🍾💖
What a beautiful beast!!
Jason, thanks for chasing her all over the countryside for this video. Loved the ride, thank you Matt!! Was a gun time!! 💖🚂💙💖🚂💙
Always enjoyable chasing a beautiful locomotive like this one.
That train ride and Chase was magical. Excellent all around.
A interesting video
Amazing 🤩
What a gorgeous video!! Fascinating to hear the ghost whistle, and loved all the action of the 611, the 475 and the super-fast Amtrak. Especially loved seeing all the different people gathered all along the way, sharing their appreciation of the trains. Very heart-warming and beautiful montage set to perfect music to capture the mood. You should win some kind of award for this video, Jay! So awesome!
Thanks for the kind words
Absolutely beautiful looking country seen ... taken from a moving train.. absolutely beautiful sound ....I really enjoyed the ride on the train.thank JP and Matt...
Very cool!
I was fortunate enough to ride on 611, two days before her departure to Roanoke. Thanks to all staff for an amazing ride!
Glad to see these vids! In the 1980s saw and rode behind the 611 and Nickel plate road 475, my mother in law never drove so we took her to ride few times
Or was NPR 465?
What a treat!! She is so beautiful ❤
I actually rode next to an older Amish lady on the Amtrak, all the way from Chicago to Montana. 😊 Since I work in a hospital near an Amtrak stop, occasionally I walk into work and there will be an Amish family waiting to walk over and board. So yes, they love trains and love riding them too😊.
Thanks for the amazing ride!!
I loved the Vintage look of the intro and outro shots along with the music ....perfect . Old 611 is a beauty with her sleek .."mid-century modern " look .😊 Looked like a wonderful , fun-filled day for you and Matt. Thank you for sharing this special Memorial Day adventure with us .💙👍
Greetings,
Barbara Pigeon Bray
Hoping all is well with everyone there.
Great video JP over the top keep up the great videos 🎉🎉
Appreciate it!
Great video, what beautiful countryside! I’m so happy you got to go on the 611! I loved this! TYFS! 🥰
😊
Awesome. The 611 is my favorite locomotive.
Absolutely loved the train, thanks so much for that.
Very welcome
What a gorgeous locomotive! Wow that ghost whistle gave me goosebumps again! I remember that from another one of your videos too, it's so cool! It is very awesome that you documented this JP and what a great experience for you and Matt and for us! Enjoyable ride and loved seeing all the run bys and all the great views. Wonderful video, thank you! 💙🚂🚃🛤
Awesome
Awesome video to see the 475 and 611 working.
What a beautiful video Jay! Loved every moment of it. Really enjoyed all the views you came up with. Camera on the arm of the crossing was genius. Your videos are by far the best. Thank you for sharing this wonderful memory you now have.
Thank you tabby
Awesome video love watching the trains thanks
Wow! What a ride! The train is gorgeous! The view was stunning! Your photographs were phenomenal! I love that there were children there to appreciate the train. That was awesome. Ok the AmTrack going 100 mph was a little scary...lol. I wish we had train rides here. We have old depot stations everywhere and there are wonderful mountain and river views here. It would be nice to see someone in my neck of the woods start public train rides. Is the train going to Virginia or West Virginia? I have family in Raleigh county West Virginia. Great video... ✌
I'd be ok seeing old depots and river views haha. I believe Roanoke Virginia.
kewl here in virginia we have 611 its a kewl looking steam engine
Great footage, very nicely done!
I was born on exactly that plus one year.
Amazing vid and some fantastic shots of 611!! A coworker/buddy of mine got the same experience as you, just the day before on Sunday, I kept nag him that he needed to go so he finally did and is completely smitten with the Queen of Steam, possibly more so than the Big Boy. Unfortunately me and my family did not get to say farewell but enjoyed the ride we had the year before.
That was cool.
Especially the ghost whistle. Sad in a way as it’s her last voyage. What’s the old girl's ultimate fate?
She's back in Virginia now and I'm unsure of current or future plans
Definitely a beautiful train very nice phot9s Jay. Central California watching
Its just so funny that this NfW is the same number engine that i come so close to buying on my layout but i bought the southern Pacific Daylight that looks almost exactly like this engine the reason I bought the Daylight is because of the different front end and paint scheme.but I wanted 611 too..but there very cool looking engines both are..
Great video JP. I’ve ridden the trains there twice. Love that ride. Also did the Amish buggy ride close by. That was fun also.
I may have to do a buggy ride sometime
I was there filming her on Saturday and saw MattG and Mel on the train. If they have straw hats they are Amish
I used to live a few miles from there nice video buddy
My family and I were there that day
611 has alot more years to come in the future.
love your photo shots. Do you use just one of your cameras for the photos?
I used my Nikon D5600 for the photos in this video.
Wow i think that Amtrak is goin for a land speed record..holy crap he movin
I have tried to find why 611 is retiring. All I could find is that it will retire. Anyone know why 611 is being retired?
Did they change her whistle this year
Is it going back to Virginia for the same thing or going on static display?
Not sure what the plans are, but I believe it will be operating.
Stay tuned for exciting future 611 operations.
Honestly, none of the steam locomotives whistles, are ghost whistles.
Whats gonna happen to it?
Nice work your two thousand subscribers away from tying WWOT
