I've recently made Noteful may go-to handwriting app and it's been fantastic! I've tried and purchased just about every hand writing app and I still use some of them sometimes (like Notability) but Noteful has been just great. The fact that you can have layers, editable outlines and good looking handwriting is really nice.
Reader and Readwise in combination are absolutely game changing I can blast though my RSS feeds, PDF’s and highlight in no time using these two apps. Then Endel, Focus time, Structured and Onesec combined to with shortcuts to help me focus
If you need an even more powerful calculator, I would highly recommend Calculate84. It is literally a TI84 graphing calculator and works so well in slide over mode.
Absolutely Lumafusion...it's the best mobile editing app I've ever seen close to a real desktop video editor and my ipad of choice is 2020 12.9 512gb ipad pro🙂
I can't agree more about things Things 3! I absolutely love that app! I started using it a few years ago and the way it keeps me organized is integral to performance as an IT professional. It goes beyond work. It's awesome!
Fantastical needs to vanish from this type of videos since they screwed over everyone when they introduced their subscription model. All of a sudden they cut existing features for users who had a one-time purchase.
Same for Drafts, they should bankrupt when they switch to subscription. Also version 4 has cleaner interface and it was really one tap less while 5 was one tap more
Your content & open personality are consistently wonderful! I have ADHD as well and I appreciate how you’re true to working with what you enjoy. It is freeing when you learn that you don’t have to do things like everyone else or enjoy the same things. I love talking to other ADHD folks as I get serious about learning my brain, self kindness, and realizing how I’ve coped almost 30 years! Shoutout to you - representation matters & neurodiversity can make you feel alone but its so common. We think similarly, I just uninstalled fantastical and LOVE things 3. I’ve honestly been really into Rocketbooks & how they combine notebooks and technology. My brain loves it and the earth probably appreciates less partly filled notebooks stacking in my office lol. This is more than I planned (classic ADHD lol), but I quite literally *never* post comments on RUclips - I had to share the positive comment!
@@ChrisLawley So true the brain will tell you which apps they like. I think there is a lot of Good Lock in with Apple apps I was recently thinking to switch to Gmail Business apps but it cost like $16 bucks a month to have Google Apps for business and I already have a custom email with my Apple One plan that is only $2.99 a month so I am for sure gonna stay with apple all these recurring fees are not good.
Great info in here. Thanks. Very well done. Favourites for me are Notability, Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. Pcalc gets used daily too, none better.
Naturespace is my app of choice for ambient sound. It is not hugely flexible, you dont have a billion sounds to pick from and mix to your liking, but what it does have is super high quality stereo sound. There are several hundred "scenes" to pick from that range from urban, underwater, scifi, nature, water, weather, and many, many others. Throw some headphones on, play a scene, and close your eyes and just listen. Each scene will take you on a journey and every time you replay a scene, it will take you on a different journey of the same scene. It utilizes stereo panning to create a very effective soundstage that will take your mind off the stresses of life. It is expensive, each scene runs for $1, and I believe they have a "complete package" that runs for $100 or so that contains nearly everything they have produced. I love this app so much...
What’s your thoughts on Milanote? As someone with ADHD it hits so good with being able to just map all my projects in diff ways. My productivity combo is Things Milanote and Bear
excited for your further look at Resolve! if you want to dive into to the world of free presets and plugins for resolve, even on ipad, I'd love to talk! 🤘🤘
Christopher, I love your videos!!! Please keep making them for us. I love the positive energy and positive take on the apps that I use as main drivers on my ipad, however, I would appreciate if you did a deep dive on the shortcomings of the Files app. While I agree it is better than anything else out there and it is better on 16 than it ever was, however, it is so far from allowing me to leave my Mac and PC behind ... 1. when saving from the share sheet or from email, it reverts to the starting point each time, forcing me to navigate down to the folder I just selected every time. 2. no tabs 3. no gutter of folders. I often have to go back to the root folder and navigate all the way back down 4. no consistent way to go up one level I'm sure there is more, but these are the annoyances that I experienced only today! Also, Mail... Hi Chris: My workflow has been “iPad first” for over 5-years via my 2017 iPad Pro (upgrading to M2 iPad Pro soon). I spend much of my day connected to an external monitor, and the rest on the run with the iPad and Folio Keyboard. PERFECT tool for me. BUT … the Apple Mail remains a HUGE disappointment. I use embedded hyperlinks A LOT in emails - incredibly, there is no native support for adding links to email! And font sizing uses a gimmicky “increase / decrease” button - give me the choice to choose my font size - like “12” or “16”. So, I mostly use Readle’s “Spark” email client - better; but, it has it’s own design issues. I have yet to find a “good” email solution. Absence of a decent email client is so painful, all day, every day. I’ve used Craft almost since day one, and love it. I live in Craft much of the day. I tried Notion, but, it’s iPad features and support were terrible - for someone that is iPad only, it’s a non-starter. Maybe it’s gotten better; but, Craft was built for the iPad and it shows. Great work, and enjoyed your video. Thanks!
Great vid, dude!!! very very useful!! my favorite apps: 1. notability, 2. fe explorer pro, 3. zotero, 4. box, 5. earth 3d, 6. espn, 7. just press record, 8. v for wiki. I use the stock apps for reminders/to do and mail. calendar: combination of the stock app with widgetcal (super-widgets)
You can actually access the other Resolve pages if you set up shortcuts. It’s a workaround/hack, but they are there. I think they just haven’t enabled them yet because they’re still ironing out bugs. I hope they had true external monitor support (along with display scaling support). As of now you can’t make it full screen on an external monitor and it doesn’t change size when you enable “more space” display scaling.
Yeah, it’s very early days for the app and I know they went through a lot to get it to how it is now. I also believe they confirmed they are working on the other page so it doesn’t surprise me that they are there but disabled for now. Video editors for me need to be stable, that’s why I left LumaFusion. So I’ll wait for the official support before I use them in my workflow.
Very awesome, helpful video. I look for videos like this a lot. Helpful apps, honest, real reviews of those apps (non sponsored.) And you’re not that slow of a talker. :)
The 2 things that I consider embarrassments for Apple on iPadOS are: the calculator and PDFs. I think one of the executives explained why they don’t have a calculator on the iPad is because they haven’t figured out how to make a really amazing version for the iPad. It’s like, dude, any calculator is better than nothing. Just give us a damn calculator. And how long have PDFs been around and Apple still can’t figure it out???? So now I gotta put my client’s contract between Oliver Twist and and Rich Dad, Poor Dad(just examples) in the freaking Books App? Ya, that’s where it belongs…🤦♂️. Great job, Apple! I don’t need my documents in the Files App, that makes too much sense I guess. The groups at Apple that are in charge of these things be laughing their butts off every day for sure!! I mean just put whatever programming that’s in the Books App, in the Files App! I don’t get it at all, I can move a PDF into the Files App and it will even show me a thumbnail preview of the document, but absolutely under no circumstance is opening it allowed!!! If I’m missing the solution to just clicking on the PDF document and it opening for viewing and editing inside the Files App, preferably without downloading another app, please let me know.

Pleasant to watch! But no one needs 100+ note taking apps each for one need, 50+ editing apps… just pick one and get the job done with that. Get good notes5, lightroom, pdf experts and stop procrastinating. That’s what I’m going to do 😅

Great video Chris, I’m definitely gonna try a few of the apps, some good ones I’ve never heard of! Any good alternatives for Fantastical? I’m still using the free version.
May try Things. I have been and OmniFocus user and while great it is very complex albeit comprehensive. I love Fantastical but the subscription price is annoying. I will keep it as I use it daily
@@ChrisLawley met David Sparks years back. He is a OF guru. I want to use for real estate development planning- currently on hold, between Covid and now interest rates I will wait out this project. I haven’t figured out how to do event dependencies- ie the critical path, don’t put carpet in b4 you paint but at some point you have to order it so you’re not waiting on the carpet after you finish painting. Great show
hey, how you make your app window smaller en bigger ? no split / overview i, see for example in de files app ... and you can make it bigger our smaller on the left down side corner.
Here’s some of my alternatives: - Spark instead of Mail - Gated instead of Sanebox - Feedly instead of Feedbin - Pocket instead of Anybox - Todoist instead of Things 3 - Cron instead of Fantastical - Xero instead of Expenses Personally I use Copilot for personal budgeting
Todoist, like Fantastical, is just way too expensive for what it is. I wish developers would bother to ask their customers what their price ceiling is before just randomly raising their prices out of the blue
BIG fan of Feedly. However Anybox seems way more powerful that Pocket. I've had a pocket account since day one, but I've always felt like something was just missing for it. I'm excited to try anybox! I've used Todoist in the past, it doesn't hold a candle to Things. Other that the realistic input style I've never liked Fantastical. But I don't see anything that specifically makes Cron stand out against Calendar or Google Calendar. Is there something specific you liked about it?
Yeah… the Fantastical price jump is unfortunate. I’m just glad I can keep Pixelmator Pro before they have switched to the subscription model. I think the cost of living is going up and a possible recession is looming. I’m only paying for my Authenticator app, Craft Docs (the devs gave me one year Pro for free) and Apple Music (which I’m debating).
What Authenticator app do you use? I've never seen a non free one. I use Yubikey, and Authy. And i have used google authenticator in the past. All free.
When Craft has offline only, instead of online I do not trust it. This is why I use Obsidian over other Personal Knowledge Base applications. I also refuse to use google docs, and warn those who use it that they are compromising peoples privacy including groups that value privacy over all else.
I was contemplating on buying an ipad pro for business and productivity use and I've been noting down my requirements to see if ipad fits my purchase profile. This video has gotten me one step closer to making the decision, unlike some of the other videos (mainly from female RUclipsrs) who just make pretentious video that is solid waste of time by making useless planners (Adding a plan to drink water with 100 stickers and color shades) and showing off ipad accessories that is stupid expensive.
Sorry but if it is a subscription based app I will not be getting it. It is beginning to plague many of these productivity apps. I would pay $5 to$20 for a good app and then it is mine. I am not going to RENT a productivity app.
You make videos that are way too long, you talk so much dude... no offense, but for real. You should rather do a "top 5 favorite apps on my Ipad" etc. etc. then a couple of months later "5/7 awesome iPad apps that are game changing" or whatever.. you have 162k subs and that is good, great job man.. but honestly, I think you'll boom a lot more doing more digestable content. 5-8 min vids.
Ha ha! I just tried safari on ipad pro m1 and I couldn't believe how useless it was. I have NO IDEA where all the controls you showed are or how to get to them, and I'm sick and tired of Apple's secret code approach to interface design.
Because software developers are running a business, part of that means they need income. There is no such thing as good free software. You either pay with your money, or you pay with your data.
@@ChrisLawley Well free and open source is definitely the exception. However that is the Achilles heel of the locked down iPadOs and iOS. I have found amazing and free and open source versions of everything you use for MacOS. That’s the one thing I wish we could access on IPad. Mobile, but iPads particularly are targeted at shameless micro transactions.
Yeah, quite disappointed with Fantastical, I got the one time purchase before and was happy with it! I was about to get on the subscription plan, and I just checked them last night to see… new crazy pricing! I just don’t trust them now that if I get it with this price, they won’t double it again next year!
Fantastical - I was hoping you'd touch on the subscription increase and you nailed it. In the UK it's a 65% increase and for me that is in no way worth it for what I use it for. I never use Cardhop so that doesn't matter at all. I will miss the natural language input of Fantastical but I'm using Google Calendar now. I imported in and away I go. They have gone too far with the prices and it's even gone up more since I emailed them and they sent me a screenshot of the new prices! The email said it would be £4.33 and now the renewal is £5 in a few weeks. Nope. 🫤

Fantastical also hiked their pricing this year. It’s now up about 25%. Yikes. 😮
I hate the price but what is the alternative?
I quit Fantastical for this very reason. I’m back to using the stock calendar app, too.

Thats a feature of the 12.9 inch iPad Pro. It's because it has the extra screen space to display that.
makes sense! Thanks!
This video has gotten me one step closer to making the decision, unlike some of the other videos (mainly from female RUclipsrs) who just make pretentious video that is solid waste of time by making useless planners (Adding a plan to drink water with 100 stickers and color shades) and showing off ipad accessories that is stupid expensive.
i have the same iron man poster
This episode of WhatsOn is brought to you by Diet Dr.Pepper!
Hahaha! I normally put that out of frame, but for some reason I didn’t this time.
First two apps are native apps. I’m came here looking for new apps.
Ok, thats why there are time stamps. For the Safari section I talk about Safari extensions.
That's a lotta apps.
Did you leak your server ip? 1:01
2 TB wow you can edit a feature film with that much space😂😂😂😂
You must be a very rich man to have so many subscription services that you are using,
Files app just deleted my pdfs without trace.
way too much widgets for me :D
Sorry but if it is a subscription based app I will not be getting it. It is beginning to plague many of these productivity apps. I would pay $5 to$20 for a good app and then it is mine. I am not going to RENT a productivity app.
i wonder how much he pays for all these subscriptions…
Why don't you ask him?
Nope
Literally all paid nothing free
“wenDues” check this productivity app for iPad
Fantastical - I was hoping you'd touch on the subscription increase and you nailed it. In the UK it's a 65% increase and for me that is in no way worth it for what I use it for. I never use Cardhop so that doesn't matter at all. I will miss the natural language input of Fantastical but I'm using Google Calendar now. I imported in and away I go. They have gone too far with the prices and it's even gone up more since I emailed them and they sent me a screenshot of the new prices! The email said it would be £4.33 and now the renewal is £5 in a few weeks. Nope. 🫤
