I found watching an otb game was refreshing and enjoyable rather than the usual 2D we have become accustomed to. Thank you for sharing this demo of the boards I am waiting for.
Hello Eric, despite the critics of potential time management problems (Because of moving the opponent's pieces), I really like watching you play the Board from your actual realistic perspective just like in an OTB game. I would like to see more. Maybe even with a friend who moves the opponents pieces. But don't let the friend tell you good moves😅
I really like the exercise of having to visualize the moves based on verbal notation alone. Not having had many OTB opportunities, especially against serious players, I have always had the crutch of the online board and arrows. This style of video is amazing. Thank you Eric!!
Reminds me of when I was a kid. I got a Harry Potter wizard’s chess set for Christmas. The first thing I did was say out loud “pawn to e4”. And obviously nothing happened. I’ve wanted a self-moving chess board ever since. Haha
0:56 “I think my rating is in the 2400’s..” That’s all? Lol. I really enjoyed this, liked and subbed. I will have a little look at this board, it looks very interesting.
i think this is like playing in mini berserk mode as it starts ticking your time down once the opponent has moved and you have to replicate the opponent's move on the board on your own time. one lazy solution would be to freeze eric's clock for one or two seconds to compensate for the move replication down time. more seconds than that would turn into eric's favor in terms of getting more time to think for his move.
This is cool, I’m glad you have a sponsor. I’d love to see more OTB videos. Visually it’s appealing and I feel like even though we stare at screens all day it’s better for the eyes and when we want to play tournaments we will actually be OTB. Any tips and tricks for OTB play or studying you suggest?
Ouch! There is no contrast between the black pieces and the black squares... and that makes it very hard to concentrate on the board/position. That being said, thank you for taking the time to show us and demonstrate that ChessUp 2 Smart Board. While I can see how it might appeal to some people, possibly kids, I can see it's nothing I want or desire.
It's not about appealing to kids. It's for folks who want to play OTB more. If you plan to play tournaments irl, playing a greater proportion of your games OTB is going to help with your board vision.
Right about contrast for the black pieces and squares. Can you put your own pieces on this board / mod your own set to make it compatible. (Does it use magnets at the base?)
What a pleasure to watch, thanks Eric. I only hope ChessUp brings out a maple/walnut version with the same technology inside. The current (plastic, right?) version looks cheap and I assume the pieces feel light.
Pretty sweet boards. This video is just in time for Xmas.. although I play chess exclusively on the app.. I would have to make another acct to practice my board vision
As a noob (1000) who's been watching your videos all summer. This format seemed more difficult to follow. And I initially did not want to watch. I'm just interested in the chess board. I really like this format now that I've watched for 8 minutes. It has forced me to look at the board differently. I appreciate it. It's probably going to be a tough sell for others. Ty
The opponent’s clock should stop only when the physical move is made on the board. Otherwise, it creates an unfair disadvantage for the player making the moves.
Not sure if a typo, or if that's a phrase you've only ever heard spoken and never written, but it's a "white board," not a "wipe board." Totally reasonable way to think about that object. I am not trying to insult you or talk down to you. Just wanted to let you know in case you didn't! Cheers.
@kruksog They have a variety of names, dry wipe or dry erase, meaning you don't need a wet cloth to wipe or erase them. But whiteboard marker is another name
This board is awesome! Can you play others or just the engine? can you use it for practice and puzzles? Can you use it to walk you through positions and best responses?
This board is really cool but could be improved with an LCD overlay so that it could allow the live player to play with real pieces and the online player to have their pieces displayed on the board. This would mean that the live player wouldn’t have to lose time moving the opponent’s pieces.
I think it is too "colorful", looks a bit distracting. But overall nice features- but no need to move away from chessnut (air, air plus, evo, etc.) With their vision technology (on the evo) you can use whatever chess websites you like. But it is more expensive, coming with a more or less complete tablet.
That's exactly why this is a good idea - helps with OTB board vision. It's why I got one.. arriving in the next few days! I think I'm going to create a different account though, since I'm expecting my OTB rating to be worse.
RUclips just told me I'm in the top 0.1% of your RUclips fans hi I'm Jon since I started watching your channel I've grown a lot better chess player nowadays my RUclips recap told me that 25.5% of my watch time on RUclips was watching you but it's more like 90% because my children also use my account. I just wanted to tell you to boost your ego cuz you're doing a good job
seems like a great gift for kids learning to play chess, or maybe someone, who doesn’t know how to play chess, can finally play against their partner who does
im guessing the main selling point of this board is the ability to play online games with a physical board, good for folks who want to improve their visualisation in over-the-board tournaments without a physical playing partner. a conventional physical board would probably be nicer to play on and cheaper
Can you turn off the "possible moves" led lights when a piece is touched? Since most any player beyond an absolute beginner should know how and where each piece can move, having all the possible move squares light up is distracting.
Having to move your opponents' pieces doubles the time pressure
This is why these physical boards suck
@@AvocadoTheBugCatshutup, then use less time or go Up a time notch
@@Zzzzx7 using less time would actually worsen the problem
@@AvocadoTheBugCatThere are automatic boards, but they're really slow. Playing a longer time control like 30min should fine, though.
Like someone else said this is perfect for 15+10. Fastest possible might be 5+5
this feels like a lock picking lawyer video
Eric should play another so that we know it wasn't a fluke.
This is IM Eric Rosen. And I'm always looking to Stafford Gambit my opponents. Today we'll be showing off the ChessUp board....
Someone stole my bike
Pin arrr Pawn 3 is binding

This is the perfect type of ad, and the only type I’m willing to watch.

I found watching an otb game was refreshing and enjoyable rather than the usual 2D we have become accustomed to. Thank you for sharing this demo of the boards I am waiting for.
it looks viable to play on 15+10 time control
That’s how I play on my Chessnut air.
Bc8? Somewhere in Russia, Kramnik is doing the procedure.

That small detail of releasing the piece to register the move is so good... im excitied to recieve this board from the kick starter campaign
Love this style Eric, feels so cozy! Maybe you can try with increment next time 😁
The kings have pointy crowns. They look like queens.
It's a cross on top - that's pretty standard...
@timm439 The queen has a coronet. The king is supposed to have a crown.
@@JiveDadsonyeah the cross is really obvious
Unfortunately having to move your opponent's pieces, especially in a time scramble, is a *no go* for me.
Shouldn't they be able to address that by giving some time (1 second?) where both clocks are frozen after a move?
@@AndrewJensI just think the other player would have to enter some kind of format where they know that’s going to be the case.

18:10 the promoting bit was crazy!
I'd watch more of this, even though it's an ad. Idk I find it more interesting than usual
I bought 2 with carry bags a while back on their Kickstarter. I hope I get them soon.
thank you once again for your posts, their instructional value and their underlying philosophy and the overall timbre of your endeavors.
that was actually really cool. they need to add some time tweaks for moving pieces...
MORE CHESSUP GAMES PLS
That was fun. I think I would probably play with slightly longer time control haha.
That was the photo finish of the year! I was on the edge of my seat! I will be buying with YOUR promo code.
Bravo!

Grats on all these sponsorship deals. Love seeing the channel grow.
Great content!! This is good practice to visualize and watch games for over the board chess
The checkmating lights were pretty cool
We need more of these videos!❤
in this scenario your time shouldn't start until you move your opponents piece I think, but i guess that could be abused as well

That bord is really dope! More videos of this I like
You almost need a partner to help move the pieces. But it’s still going to be slower.
Already bought two of them on KS, can’t wait!
I want that thing for Christmas bro
Got to add increment to move their pieces
That's a very nice looking board. - Hey I have to ask. At 11:15, why did you take the pawn with the rook, rather than the bishop?
10:06 it's nice that it points out to you that you need not waste tempos and could have played Bb5. Any particular reason for not doing that?
10:58 you are trying hard to waste tempos.
I think you are distracted by making the video.
50 seconds later you illustrate the concept again. 2 wasted tempos.
I think making this video distracted you
Time Scramble on this machine is insane hahahaa
The opponent’s clock should stop only when the physical move is made on the board. Otherwise, it creates an unfair disadvantage for the player making the moves.
Having to move the opponents piece is more reason to play with bonus time or at least delayed time
Great vid great game!
I just got one and I love it!
"..I can't draw arrows.." Nothing a dry wipe board marker can't solve ;)

Hi Eric, does the board support puzzles/lessons/studies?
Awesome board! They should make brown pieces instead of black for better identifying.
or green squares maybe?
That was fabulous!
i love these videos

Do more of these! Very fun to watch!
POV Chess is incredible, I love this

I wanna see this with the opponent as holograms 😂idk
the promotion not working made me nervous asf ngl
I was one of the kick starters. Mine I’m informed should arrive to me in the UK just b4 Christmas 😊
I would buy that in a second if the opponent pieces moved for me

Good Tech! That is clever!
How well does this board work while doing game reviews using the engine?
titled tuesday over the board

That would look very… odd haha
Who needs arrows when you can just point with your finger?!?
Also, that promotion attempt almost cost the game.
It's good for longer games
can you change the led colors ?
I understand why it can't be that way, but I wish the timer would only start counting down after you're done moving your opponent's piece.
"I can't draw arrows."
Sometimes, the arrows get a bit much.
Is there a way to turn off the possible move colors on this board?
The creators once said that there would be such an option.

Damn i really love that board, but 335 dollars is absurd. Now it will be need years, that normal people can buy it way cheaper.
Hello. If I played with my friend a live game on this board, can it analyze the game?
I can see myself playing on that board instead of the phone
Does anyone else have trouble “seeing” a regular board after playing online so much?
I try to switch between online and OTB so that get use to seeing 3D board vision as well

playing opponent's move should be rewarded by a few seconds increment..
