This videos intention is to demonstrate the ascent procedure - pointing out several things. One of them, that the SMB is not to be used as something to hold on to compensate for poor bouancy skills. Therefore the the SMB was not fully inflated (the viewer realizes that this is NOt providing lift) and I do not keep the line under tension to make the SMB stand - as, again - the point of the video was that you basically do a free ascent and that line is not needed. If I pull it straight it looks like I hold on to it in the video and ruins the demo. Unfortunately I have to explain this here as certain viewers do not get the purpuse of the demo and start picking on theses details as if it was a real dive and not a demo of specific skills.
Depending on how big the dsmb is and how full, I feel that you need 'some' tension in the line otherwise it does not stand up in the water and the boat cannot see it. Of course you want to be able to make up for the slight negative buoyancy you would have if you let go of the spool, just by taking a deeper breath.
That's an important question cause without tension for sure the DSMB is laying down at the surface and loses it's main goal. All the rest of the procedure I fully agree
@@adiver4336The point is to have it standing up and visible (so your boat knows where divers are, even if doing a safety stop, or so other boats know, long in advance, that a diver is in the area).
How did you measure where to put the knots? You consider the start of the line as distance "0"? Or did you consider the segment of the dSMB that is below water? Danke
Thank you Achim for all your instructive videos. What I think is that ppl, or maybe just I, wanted to see is how you manage to do an ascent from 12m with a drysuit, and especially dry gloves (if possible blue ones) and winding your reel … Anyway, thanks again and cheers
Hi, thank you for sharing these videos with us. You said not to hang on your smb but if I do not the smb will be flat on the surface, the idea is to be seen by the boats, the only way to achieve this is having the smb vertical in the water by putting pressure on it , You have to be a bit negative to achieve this. What do you think?? Please let me know. Many thanks
Hi Achim, Thx for all your content ! Some people say that inflating the smb orally could cause serious body injuries (example opening PFO) and increase N2 saturation. Is there this kind of risks ? If no, what's the explanation to reassure me and to reassure those people ?
Just do that on the boat. Keep hold of it and pass to the boat. Once you’re out and have taken your kit off you can take your time rolling it back up and storing it back on your rig
in a real dive you would send it from a greater depth and the expanding air would fill it. I wanted to show that the flow of the ascent and that the bag was absolutely not used as a back up for proper bouyancy
Not necessarily, there are quite a few situations where sending up an SMB needs to be done from relatively shallow depth, and compensating for the buoyancy change when filling the SMB is the most important thing to ensure it is full. Regardless of depth there’s little point in sending one up if the boat or other people can’t see you.
Humm although you are obviously much more competent than me, I am not sure I agree on this one. Of course you don't want to use the SMB to compensate for poor boyancy but if you don't pull it down a little it will lay flat on the surface (even well inflated) and then will be useless. Especialy if you are doing a drift dive for instance and want to send you SMB quite before the end of your dive for the boat to see you. Using the SMB to compensate for poor boyancy and pulling it down a bit so that it stands erected at the surface are two different things.
Slightly OT, but may I ask you why you're diving these fins? I find them absolutely useless, especially on a frog kick they give zero propulsion, way to soft imo. No offense, seriously interested 😉
Hi, the question comes up a lot. They are super for travel, as very lightweight and every finding technique works perfect. Here is the video : ruclips.net/video/1YeSxN97uuo/видео.html
@@CoastalDevelopment thx for your answer, I never owned a pair, just tried them on a dive in direct comparison to the standard Mares 4 and it felt like kicking in air 😅

That's a good tip with the knots , thanks!

You can always fill it up again on the surface though

Love the video and all the advice you give . Thank you .
I also love the ISE orange gear !!
Awesome trim
Very helpful. Thanks.
How did you measure where to put the knots? You consider the start of the line as distance "0"? Or did you consider the segment of the dSMB that is below water? Danke
I personally do it by line length, not including the dSMB height, so the knots indicate the depth below the water surface.

Ok Ivan - noted - will do that asap. thanks.
Maybe i missed it or it was not required here, but didn´t you check if there is something above before shooting it?
Do you not worry about the DSMB standing up since you don’t pull down at all?

"I lift my butt a little bit and release some gas" achim are you sure were still talking about the bcd? 😉😁
Good idea to look for propeller on ascend 😆😆 pays off when skipper's awareness isn't up to spec
Achim, you could make a video with the final process. Emptying, folding and storing the SMB. Thanks for the teachings!

great vid
i never thought of going horizontal rather than vertical
"lift my but a bit and release gas" i think i do that myself
How about a video showing how to deal with presbyopia (difficulty reading the computer and manometer) and myopia.
Thank you !
l wonder what kind of bcd did you use in this video. if you explain it I would be happy
Thank you
How do you ascent horizontally without kicking the fins up? Do you inhale deeper than you exhae?
?
Take a deeper breath than usual = You'll start ascending.
Where can I get the orange line you are using?
top class
Is it enough to inflate the SMB that little?
in a real dive you would send it from a greater depth and the expanding air would fill it. I wanted to show that the flow of the ascent and that the bag was absolutely not used as a back up for proper bouyancy

Gibt es Eure Spools eigentlich noch zu kaufen?
Aktuell nicht, aber wir arbeiten dran
