I use my winder on all yarn, New and leftovers. The feed is better than the pull skein and no surprise knots.
Have fun with your new toy. What a great gift.
Just needed this now in 2023. Just bought a winder and needed to know how to center pull. So happy my BOD channel comes up first! Thank you
I have 2 winders, 1 small and a larger one. After winding, I take the label and wrap it around the ball securing it with either tape or an elastic band. Works great 🙃
I just got myself one these based on your review and I have to say that I couldn't be happier. Just did 4 partial skeins of yarn in minutes and so pleased with how firm and solid that cakes are, and how nice they look. I should've had one of these years ago. Works so easily and correctly and now days that's not the norm, sadly. This was a super nice gift from whoever sent it to you and you definately needed it! Thank you for introducing this to me!
I just ordered one from Stanwood and it is on it's way! They waste no time! Woo Hoo! I'm a happy girl.
I bought myself one a few months ago .. purchased one for my sister for Christmas... we love it
The tag trick is rather clever!
That is a really nice gift and I like this one much better than the one that I have; it winds the yarn much smoother and is very quiet. Thanks for sharing!
Have had mine for about 2 years, and have made a couple hundred cakes for myself and friends. Well made winder.
Awesome now I need to get one..amazon has this one for $69.95 w/free shipping. Gonna have to ask hubby to get me one. Thank you for showing us how well it works up.
I just got one from amazon also. But it was $54. Absolutely love it.
Thanks Crystal, I just got one and had to look up videos to make sure I was doing it rite, lol Hugs and Blessings
I have the Stanwood 10oz ball winder and large swift set coming next week the 28th. Bought it from Stanwood site, and lucky to get it on sale. Bob Vila on his site did a review of ball winders and recommended the 10oz Stanwood as the best.
Thats pretty cool crystal. Makes your yarn balls nice and neat.
I could watch it all day
Mine arrived last week, I bought it to replace the smaller one I had... and I love it..!!
Thanks for the review. I'm considering buying a winder.
I just bought one of these. Can’t wait to use it. You have a very good friend.
I've got a Royal winder & it's one of my favorite toys. Talk about practical fun.😀
Just thought I would.mention that when you're pulling from the center of your original skein or from your wound cake you're changing the twist in your yarn which can lead to splitting or twisting and knotting.
Watching your video I just had to have one. Yesterday mine arrived from Amazon.
Thank you x what a lovely gift, you lucky thing! You deserve it though for all the hard work you put in to teaching people like me to crochet xx
Just got this winder for Christmas and enjoying making cakes out of my yarn leftover stash! Next I should look at swifts😮
Thank you so much for making this video. I bought a yarn winder and it came with no instructions. So this helped a bunch. I am off to wind some yarn. Thanks again!
I love this one because it seems sturdy as you use it. I wanted a good ball winder that did not use electricity and guess what? I just ordered one from Amazon! Thank you for the demonstration. I am subscribed to your channel too. ❤️🌹
Ok...now I really want one! You know, not long ago my daughter-in-law showed me one of these and I told her I never really needed one. Now, after watching this review I've had a change of heart! Thank you for the review and to the subscriber who gifted it to you! It looks so nice! 👍
My husband bought me one as a surprise!! I love it. I do the same with my yarn label.
Very nice indeed a yarn winder
Such a fabulous gift.
OMG! I need one of those! They are so neat! I have loads of yarn, in skeins and balls (I wound by hand). This would be a life saver. I need to research those! Thank you, Crystal! 💗💗💗
Oh, I want one!!! I just now bought one!!! :D I'm so excited! I've been winding by hand for years; never had one before, and this one looks so wonderful! I can't wait until it arrives!
This is really handy for when I buy hanks of yarn or have smaller leftovers. The 'cakes' are so easy to store and neat to look at. If you have the twisted hanks, you also need a swift to hang it on to wind on the winder. These tools are really handy!
It's pretty cute and very helpful . Congratulations!
Thanks, Crystal. I'm going to get one.
Very nice! And if you still want to keep the imformation, you can always cut about a foot or so of yarn & loop it thru the package, tie it & put in a ziplock baggie for safe keeping with others. This way you have the name & color of your yarn to look back on.😁😁. Love you Crystal!! 💞💞
So just got one I love it but had to watch this to learn how to use it thanks Crystal
Ive been thinking about getting one. Thanks for sharing.
Nice!
I have one. Not like that, it's smaller. But like that one better!
I wonder if they still have those? I seen this was 7yrs ago.
That is the coolest thing! Thanks for sharing!
Wish I had seen this before I bought my small 4oz winder....I think now I will have to buy a large one too.... I also bought a yarn bowl & I think it is easy to use the bowl with yarn rather then pulling from the skein.
This would be handy to combine a few different odd bits to make a unique skein for a crazy afghan or rug.
Fun and useful gadget, this!
I've a winder by the same company; but it's not that big! That sized is pretty expensive!!
They work fantastic!
And it works great for the finer fibers I've alpaca and this works beautifully with it!!👏😊👍
Somehow I had missed this video. I have just ordered one from The Oregon Woodworker that is almost the same as that one! I have a small one I purchased a few years ago, but as you know, it will not hold even one skein of yarn. Maybe 3 1/2 to 4 oz. of yarn is all it will do. You did an awesome video on this!
I have a small one..and i love it..planning to get a large one soon...
Nice review. Thank you.
I love it looks neat !!!
I bought one of these about a year ago (2019) and have used it once a week ever since. Mine runs flawlessly and has done hundreds of skeins by now. Outside of putting a drop of 3in1 oil in a couple of spots when I first bought it (for my own peace of mind) the machine needs zero maintenance.
I paid $70 for mine and complained about the price, but once I started using it and saw the results of no more skein tangles, I deemed it well worth the $70. I would imagine that a machine like this does not lose value over time either. Buy one if you can afford it and can justify the price. You won't be sorry.
By the way, that black o-ring that you see around the vertical part of the guide wire actually goes further down and on the horizontal part of that guide. It purpose is to keep the guide wire from tapping the table and making a lot of noise from the guide wire vibrating when the machine is in use.
We use the Red Heart brand of yarn and we use the jumbo size skeins. There are fine lines on the base of the rewind spindle. I think that they might be guides for how full the spindle is (?)
If you rewind a Red Heart Jumbo, fill the spindle until you get to the third line in, from the outside, on the spindle. Do that and you will have three equal sized cakes when your jumbo skein has been rewound. You might have to own one of these to understand what I just said.
I have a cheaper version of this as stanwood is way out of my price range but my cheaper one does the job just as well and I absolutely would be lost without it. If I have lots of smaller bits left I make them into cakes of self striping yarn 🧶❤️
I have the little . I want the bigger one now !
I have the same ball winder and love it.
I will be getting this for my "Craft Studio"... lol
Loved to have one of those!
I have one just like yours and I love it.
Alway wanted one its a great work out for your arm too 😂😂👍🏻
Rebecca Lapointe it's not like hard to turn. Really light
Love love it just ordered one Ty
Oh my! I may get one! Thank you!
Oh i Looooove my yarn winder too! Nice and neat yarn 'cakes"
WOW! 👀 Amazing! 😱
I love it. Where can it be purchased
I would be tempted to remove the crank handle and install a cordless drill. :)
You wouldn't do that. Believe me :)
I have used a drill to wind yarn many times.
Haha that is a amazing idea but might be scared to try it.
No need. It only takes a couple of minutes to do, even on a bad day.
I don't have one but I do think they are a good idea because it does not need electricity to use it, just woman/man power.
I’ve got a small generic brand and I also love it.
Where did the bobbin roller come from? I really like it OK you said Stanwood I'll look for that one thanks.
t is all one piece no swift how fantastic love it where do I get one
I tie a piece of contrasting yarn to the pull tail to help find it if it slips inside.
Thank you for sharing, Crystal :) I just purchased one of these and agree it's worth the investment. ♡ It saves so much and neatens up everything. Have a beautiful day #Hugs.💕🤗🌍💙💪🐾🐕🌱🦋🌲🙏🐈💜

Can the wool winder be taken off once clamped on?
I’ve only got a little side table you see, that I place my laptop on, so don’t know where to clamp it
Thanks for the demo. Can I ask why don’t you wind the full skein of yarn straight off?
I just got a used one. Love it. Sometimes my yarn wants to come up to top of spool n I get a mess. What am I doing wrong?
I would love something like that
Does a tone have LAMXD needlecraft winder? I cannot get it to work without better caught in the gears! 😱
omg that looks sooo cool!!
Wow I looked up Stanwood and found it’s 6 min. from my house. I was shocked.
Lucky you
Thank you! I was just looking at these wondering which one and if it really works.
OMG!!! I love it!!! I wish I had one!!!!
I thought you looked familiar. We shop at the same hobby lobby. 😊
I will be getting one
Can you use it for winding regular thread, some of my cones of thread had broken? Thanks
I've also ordered one. I previously ordered a smaller one but I discovered that it doesn't work for all types of yarn.
Would this work for plying yarn?
😊I have a winder but it is smaller than yours. I have a question does yours every mess up on you and not wind correctly?😊
Gotta get me one of those!!!! :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH THAT'S AWESOME
Crystal where can I get one of them I can really use one thanks
Love it, want one. What is the Brand?
thank you
I use a bobbypin to keep the end in place
Be careful the Bobby pin rusts after awhile . But good idea.
Omg I want one
I didn't buy a ball winder for 25 years, trying to save money. Bought myself one for my birthday. I could kick my own butt for waiting so long!
I have one its smaller. But I loovveeeee it!
hey
i really need help
basically, I purchased one but I just can't find the middle of the yarn. how do I find it?
thanks!
what brand is it? I've been looking at the Stanwood 10 ounce metal heavy duty. I'm asking for that for Christmas.
Nice
I have one and have to ask what I’m doing wrong, about halfway through, my cake starts winding up over the top of the cake. How do I fix this?
What is the price on one at stanwood needle crafts
I paid $30 for one of these off of ebay, it's all metal except the plastic piece the yarn winds around...it's heavy and I have wound up quite a few cakes of yarn with this....still have about 30 to wind up....Michaels had a yarn sale LOL. nuf said eh?
do you have any link?
i have one on my Amazon list
Hi - Does anyone know which model this is? Is it the Jumbo size?
Hi Crystal. I just ordered one of these after seeing your demonstration and review. Thanks for that. I have a question. Why do you only wind partial skeins of yarn and not the whole skein? Thank you for all you do. I really enjoy your channel!
+Diane Crumbley I prefer my yarn in skeins not cakes.... so I only wind when there's little yarn left in my skein.... I Hate yarn cakes..lol
Ok, gotta ask, Crystal ... why do you hate yarn cakes? I've been contemplating purchasing one of these and was wondering why I saw skeins in your stash and not cakes. lol
nice but i use my towel paper roll cardboard too
I/we would not care if you had a knot in your yarn. I believe those of us who watch your videos that would not bother us one bit it wouldn't bother me. I love your videos.
