Deadly floods in South Kalimantan trigger state of emergency for the Indonesian province

The Indonesian province of South Kalimantan on Borneo island was hit by what Indonesian President Joko Widodo said may be the worst flooding the area has seen in 50 years. Cities in the region have been battered by heavy rain since early January. The floods inundated tens of thousands of houses and forced nearly 40,000 residents to leave their homes as of January 17, 2021.

As an Indonesian it is really sad, but hey that's what we get if we keep chopping down trees in one of the most lushest rainforests in the world (Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua even Sumatra) sad but true, when will humans and the government start to take action...

Jawa terang karena Kalimantan dan Sumatera pasok batubara. Kami dulu tidak pernah kena bencana besar seperti ini. Di vidio ini airnya besih karena bendungan jebol. Ditempat ane air gunung turun, banjir lumpur deras, semuanya hanyut, bahkan rumah. Sayang gada vidionya. Mungkin akes kesini susah karena ada jembatan putus dan banjirnya terjadi hampir 1 provinsi.
Makasih buat pemerintah yg rakus. Babat hutan habis buat buka lahan tambang secara gila gilaan.

I'm Indonesian and i had visited South Kalimatan years ago. What I saw was massive environmental destruction, they cut down the rain forest for palm oil plantation and coal mining for chinese and local market. I'm saddened to hear that the authorities gave permission for that massive destruction, also some of them might be corrupt.
