Damnation is Kingkiller Chronicles. Secrets of the Americna Gods is about Neil Gaiman's book American Gods. Life Beyond the Spheres is about the Big Bang. Architects of Doom is Battlestar Galactica. Let It Be No More is about the death of Hansi's mom, and the TV show The Leftovers. Blood of the Elves is a reference to the title of the first Witcher novel. Destiny is inspired by the tale of Hans Christian Anderson's tale of the Ice Maiden.

Hansi is the 3rd greatest vocalist of all time. Only Robert Plant & Meatloaf had higher & deeper range & neither of them still perform.

For me it's somewhere between Tales and Nightfall. Great stuff, I liked BG for their later works, but loved them for their early albums.

Absolutely Killer! These new songs besides American Gods are like listening to early Blind Guardian with much better recording quality! Red Mirror is pretty heavy and I love that album but I was really hoping they would make an even heavier more raw album like their earlier works! Sounds like they did it!!!
Where are the speed drums that were an inspirational seminar on their own and the crazy bass? I'd give a listening to Tokyo tales for the early BG sound
@@tomjoad1917 Frederik plays as fast and as hard as Thomen ever did, he just tends to use more variation. It's been nearly 20 years since the drummer switch and people still have such a bizarre distaste for Frederik lol.

Hansi is the plainest looking guy to ever possess a voice befit the thundering roar of a norse god.
I think i prefer this Blind Guardian version over their symphonized style and it's weird for me to say this because i love symphonic metal. This sounds hella more aggressive though. Sick. 🤘
Twist in the Myth was perfect for me, but the last few have not been as good--which for Blind Guardian means that I haven't loved EVERY song on their lastest two.
100% agree. Stuff like A Night At The Opera is just overwrought for my tastes. I think symphonic metal suits bands like Epica or Kamelot better. Peak Blind Guardian is thrashy power metal like Curse of Feanor or Majesty.

@@guitearist Somehwhere Far Beyond is my favorite album, for me that was peak vocals/guitar tone and lead melodies/riffs/drum sound/bass/mix in general/songwriting....everything.
How cool the guys came back with the right music! A great mix of somewhere far beyond and nightfall.
It seems to have a good balance with emphasis on headbanging tracks over epicness which is a variety of BG album that was needed imo.
just the right blend of epic and aggressive. Sometimes they have a tendency to overdo the epic part. ;)

This is the most straight up metal album I have ever heard from them and I love it. This song absolutely cooks and Hansi sounds incredible and everybody looks really energized.
Have you checked out their earliest albums? It's like those in many ways with even more heaviosity

I remember the live version of this song from a few years back. I am REALLY pleased with the little changes. The choir and layered guitars are exactly where they need to be, without overshadowing the aggression of the song. This is the format of BG I like the most, some raw parts and some grandiose parts.

I love the first 5 albums…. After that it is hit and miss and then all of the sudden they decided that “ hey let’s bring the edge back!” And I am here for it.
Quality Classic Metal from this fine long-running German outfit, with Hansi Kursch sounding as good as he did in 1984. Great multitracked harmonies, the superlative guitar work you'd expect from Andre Olbrich and an overall fine tune with plenty for a crowd to sing along to. It's going to go down well at gigs. This is a must-download for mainstream metalheads \m/. My Score: Very Good 4*
I agree except the 1984 thing. He sounded sh*t in 1984 ;) Couldn't hit notes and generally was way too young and inexperienced for what he tried to do.

I already know the song and it's great. My personal rating is: 1) Secrets of the American Gods (spiritually belongs to me, I feel it so much) 2) Deliver us fron Evil and Violent Shadows (I love them both) 3) Blood of Elves (sorry to admit that I don't like it and it's rare that I don't appreciate one of their songs). In any case the new album will be phenomenal. Their music is always evolving and brings something new
Interesting. Basically flip around Secrets and Blood and that's my ranking of the singles. Have not heard the Violent Shadows studio recording yet.

I am not a fan on any of the new songs, Blood of the Elves is probably the best so far but my hype and hopes for this album has died off significantly after these singles have been released. Lack of dynamics both in arrangements, vocal usage and sounds/instruments. And a severe lack of fantasy elements. This album so far sounds gun metal grey, straight forward jus chugg chugg... it does not bode well imo. It is like they used all the creative and magical parts on the Twilight Orchestra and this album is filled with... filler guitar parts and uninspired vocals.
This makes me sad as I am a huge BG fan :(
I was massively disappointed by "At the Edge of Time" album and I can't listen to that album but this is heading in an even worse direction :(
Secrets of the American Gods in my eyes is one of the most irrelevant and boring songs they've ever put out. But tastes are different I guess

Violent Shadows could just refer to Kaladin's past, but it could also refer to the shadows of the chasms. If you haven't listened to the Darkeyed Musician's Kaladin album it's a fanmade accompaniment to the Way of Kings. Is great.

I feel like they have needed to release the classic acoustic album unbelievably much, in order to get rid of their urge to produce movie soundtracks, because that’s exactly how they’ve sounded for the past at least 20 years. Since it’s out of their system, now they can focus on being their actual selves and I am amazed how fresh their new material sounds! It’s heavy, straightforward, punchy, with a rewarding payoff on the chorus and my god, Hansi’s voice is unbelievably hot ! And again - it’s heavy ! This song could have easily be made Kreator
A Kreator cover of this song would honestly sound sick
I don't quite agree with this, but close. I think going back to a style like the much earlier, thrashier Blind Guardian probably feels fairly fresh and exciting for the band now, particularly following Legacy of the Dark Lands.
I've only been listing to Blind Guardian for 22 years, so am a bit of a late comer though.
