I spent the whole night trying to figure out how to activate the screen and not the viewfinder thingy, I am a fresh born beginner at this and NO ONE made sense or simply gave me the answer. You are the only one to make sense and do so concisely! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive had my Canon EOS Rebel T6 for years, struggled and gave up on trying to use my screen instead of the viewfinder. This video got it working!! All I had to do was switch to "auto focus" and BAM! My screen works! Thank you!!
OMG I’ve just started my photography journey and I’ve been struggling with navigating how to use the camera screen rather than the view finder because I couldn’t see my objects clearly and sometimes my photos would come out blurry. I can’t believe how easy it was. I feel more confident and ready to take more photos. Thank you so much!
I’d there a way to have the digital zoom present when taking a picture? I’ve notice whenever I take a picture and use the zoom in the display it will look far detailed than the actual picture
Thanks for the information. My question is about using live view screen on my T7i. Do you know of camera settings other than the exposure triangle which will show brighter stars for astrophotography? I already have the exposure triangle settings to maximum and that doesb't show me what I want. At some settings the L V screen is *very* laggy taking up a lot of time. I'm looking for live view setting adjustments which show stars really bright without having to make exposures to see where the camera is pointed and to make focus adjustments without adjusting focus after having to take exposures over and over and fiddling with the focus adjustments between taking exposures. Thanks.
Shaw, I've my Canon T-3/1100D in Manual mode, with the lens at Auto Focus. I have the "*" as my back button auto focuser. When shooting through the viewfinder, the "*" works as autofocuser. When shooting Live View, when I depress the "*", it acts as a shutter button, NOT as an autofocuser. What's the solution to my problem , PLEASE?
I have a similar question for the rebel 7ti. I can't figure out how to zoom in digitally in live view to hone a focal point. Idk if the Canon rebel t7i has that feature?
Wow, I never knew how to change aperture with the Av button, I always used the Q to get there and it was a pain to leave Live Mode to be able to do that. How that could have saved so much effort these past 4 years. Is there a way to turn off Exposure Simulation? I'm taking photos with a strobe but I can't compose in the "dark", well, dark based on the settings. When I focus it lightens up for a few seconds but sometimes I want to recompose the shot and not refocus, but I can't see anything.
great video - We are trying to take a photo and show up on a monitor - for learning purposes - we purchased a HDMI to VAG cord and hooked it up to monitor but nothing.... do you have any info to help us??? will shooting in Live View Mode work for us?
That's a good question!? I honestly don't think it's possible on the Rebel cameras, or at least I don't know how to do it. If it is possible and you figure it out, let me know.
When I switch between live view mode and viewfinder. I get a slightly different picture. The position of the subject is slightly out of position. Any ideas how to change this.. thanks 🤔Canon 120d
When you're on one of the photo modes and push the "record button" on the back of the camera, it doesn't show up? And/or when you're on video mode it doesn't show up either?
Hello! Thank you for posting. I have been trying to change the video format from mov. to mp4 so that I can upload the video to my iPhone or Mac computer. Please help!
My Live View doesn't have nearly as many options as yours. I tried click the Disp button but it did nothing. I have a Cannon EOS Rebel T3i which I know is old.
Thanks for watching. I should have said I switch back to viewfinder when I'm ONLY using Live View only for adjusting my settings (to get real time image feedback). I guess I'm just more comfortable taking pictures through the viewfinder as most photos that I take are moving subjects, so Live View autofocus isn't fast enough. If I'm shooting landscape, portraits or still objects using Live View, I wouldn't switch back in that case.
Thanks for this video! Maybe you can answer a question of mine...I had the aspect ratio set to 16:9 so when I took a picture in live mode it is now cropping it to that aspect ratio, even though I can still see the full image on the camera. Do you know if there’s a way to “uncrop” it?
If we're talking about the image that you've already taken, there's no way to uncrop it, sorry. But obviously for future photos just change it within camera first.
On point and very helpful. I have a canon 1100d and a EFS 18-55 mm lens. I want to achieve a blurred background. Which I only achieve when too near smaller objects
Does it still auto zoom and correct focus? Wanted to used it for streaming model kits. Small pieces and want it to correct focus when i bring small pieces close to camera.
Why is it, when attempting macro, with a well-lit image, when I switch from viewfinder to live view, I don't see any image, just a black viewfinder with the white rectangle? Thank you!
It might be your settings. The viewfinder is just a "window" to look through, whereas live view will represent your settings. Try something like Shutter Speed 1/80, Aperture f3.5 and ISO 800...does that make it better?
My only question is how can the live view be set to stay on indefinitely? We want to use it for a wireless stream camera via HDMI (not USB), but live view seems to automatically turn off every 15 or 20 minutes.
Good Question. If you go into menu, then go to the first yellow menu (1st wrench), you will see "SCREEN COLOR" at the bottom. The dark grey is option 1 I believe. Let me know if that works.
You just can't use any autofocus features, meaning you need to spin the focus ring on the lens to achieve focus, otherwise everything else should be the same.
Hello! Thanks for the video. However, I have a question. You see, I'm new to Canon and I'm just starting with a T5i. I wish to know how to deactivate the EXP SIM function. The thing is... I try to use Live View when photographing in studio but the light is too soft because I use flash. In consequence, the ambient is too dark and the Live View is completely dark. For example, in a dark room, I set the camera at ISO 100, F8, 1/200 plus the light of the flash. However, the camera detects that this settings aren't correct because its "too dark" even though I can get a correct exposure with the flash. For me, this function is really annoying and I can't seem to find anyway to deactivate it... Any ideas?
I've recently acquired a Canon 6D as an upgrade from my 250D crop sensor camera. But the Live view mode does not truly work in real time like your camera and my 250D. I change the iso/exposure on the 6D but the screen seems to have like an auto-brightness affect to the preview. So when i take the shot its either too bright or dark. As i can't truly tell what its displaying. Is there any solution to this? I'm shooting fully manual with a fully manual lens and I'm following the same settings as my 250D. Thanks!
I'm not sure what the issue is there. Are the photos coming out too dark or too light, or is it just the screen? Have you tried changing the display brightness/etc in your menu?
Because Canon T series cameras do not have continuous autofocus for video, unlike Canon Ti series cameras that do (well the more recent ones). They are the cheapest cameras, so Canon, like all other camera makers, doesn't include a lot of good features...as they want you to buy a more expensive/better camera now instead.
Hi! if i am in live mode can i select the ISO key without selecting Q? It happens that when pressing these keys the square that is in the center of the camera moves, is it possible to leave it without moving and use the keys according to their function and not according to the function of "arrows"? thank you!
Not that I'm aware of. I have never figured out any other way besides Q. I think Canon was thinking that we should set ISO first, and then reserve the more tactile dials/buttons to change aperture and shutter speed. But taking up 4 buttons to just move around focus is a lot...Let me know if you do stumble across a way to adjust ISO without Q.
Is it normal that my live view mode doesn't work when i want to take a shot??? I have a new camera but it doesn't work :(( when i press the shut button
Sorry, I've never owned a Canon R. Other mirrorless cameras that I've owned all have the live view screen activated as default...so I'm not sure, sorry.
Wouldn't be an ideal choice no. If you have a Rebel Camera then the sensor in the camera is an APSC which has a 1.5x crop making that lens like a 108-450mm. Plus the aperture is only f4 at the lowest, which is actually f6 with the crop (in terms of depth of field). The 50mm f1.8 (75mm f2.7 equivalent) is the cheapest "portrait lens" out there. If you want more zoomed in there's the 85mm f1.8 but that would be like 128mm f2.7, which is fairly zoomed in, so you'd always need space...inside portraits would most likely all be pretty tight. I am making a video on lenses very soon.
For video, you can't on this camera. For photos, just push the "record" button on the back (shown in the video) - your camera will flip from live view to the viewfinder.
@@jscaleb Yes. Watch at 0:10 to activate live view, and around 4:40 to see me flip back to the viewfinder. Both times pushing the same "record" button on the back to do so...
