I was 5 when I first listen to this on my uncle's stereo. He left Romania after the fall of the communism, in 89. When he first came home in 94, he brought a stereo and a UB40 cassette! I will forever listen to them...This year I will be 35❤🎉

I can't remember if it was UB40 greatest hits, or Promises & Lies. Later on (late 90s or early 2000s) we had the CD maxi of the song. Good times.

Also I have read letters that my dad wrote to him in 91-92 telling him not to come back because the inflation has skyrocketed and the national coin had no value. It was so heartbreaking reading those letters and seeing the desperation with my own eyes. My dad died in 94 due to a heart attack caused by alcohol and depression. So yes, communism has impacted lives long after it's falling and I can easily say, it still does today due to the trauma that us millennials had to grow up. This song will always take me to a place of long forgotten innocence :). Multumesc si eu

1993 I was finishing high school in Peru. I slow danced this song with my high school sweetheart. This song will always take me back to those moments. Its 30 years later we both got married to different people and I wish her the absolute best in the world but this song will always bring me back to those moments. It was something beautiful that we shared in our lives. That moment was beautiful in our lives and I will always thank her for that!

Same, I think it was the "Sliver" movie that introduced me to the song. I would've been in 3rd grade in 1993, absolutely loved this song. Played it on repeat. Such Nostalgia now. This and "Blame it on the rain" by Milli Vanilli were the two songs the got me hooked to music as a youngster.

UB40's is easily the best version but RUclips doesn't help. Put just the title in the search bar and this doesn't come up. Sure, a couple of Elvis versions but then sloppy covers by small-time artists. Oh, and one by Ed Sheeran I guess. But I always knew this was UB40. Benefit of MTV back in the day.

This was released almost a year after I was born on 30th June 1992 and remains to this day one of my all time favourite songs. UB40 are in my top 10 artists/bands of all time including Phil Collins, Genesis, Queen and Lighthouse Family to name a few. Such happy memories and EPIC music. 😀 🏴

Yea this song is a cover song from a old elvis song but it's a reggae version by ub40 and it was released in 1993 from the sliver movie soundtrack and the local hip hop rnb station jamn 94.5 in boston which was relatively a new radio station in 1993 use to play this song in the summer of 1993 and it was a hit with the young urban crowd.
