@@McChrister - My pleasure. I am 76 now. I have documented ancestors from seven different countries. England & Ireland (1620 - 1670s), Dutch ancestors arrived in 1630; skip to the early 19th century and Alsace (French/German, right on the border), and then 1882/1883 and 1892 my Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish ancestors arrived. Big sigh of relief when my DNA test matched all of those countries of origin. Otherwise I might have had to toss out some 55 years of genealogy research and a lot of money for documents (family stories cannot be relied upon; always get documents). My favorite historical eras start with the ancient European and British Celts, the Roman invasion of Britain, Anglo-Saxon invasions, Viking invasions in Britain and Ireland (they didn't call themselves Vikings, that is a much later label; going a-viking is an occupation, not an identity - they were called Northmen, hence, Normandy, France - and a descendant of Rollo the Viking was William the Conqueror). Then Plantagenet England, and Tudor England are very interesting. I read enough about the Tudors to accidentally memorize the five generations between Owen Tydier/Tudor to the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603. After that the religious wars take over and British history becomes tedious in the extreme. However, fast forward to 2001 and that's when online documents for my family history become available with the advent of getting my first computer, so I switched to more research and not quite as much reading unless it is online or in videos. It was pretty much intact and proved once again that the Romans were around at that time. Fascinating stuff. Lately I have been watching RUclips videos about “Mudlarkers” in the UK, especially the once that walk along the river Thames. That river is a living museum, it reveals something new(I mean old🤭)each and every day with the ever changing tides. From clay pipes, WWII bomb fragments and bullets, Tudorian clothing accessories to Roman pottery(and so much more…) One day I will have to make it my mission to go over to London and get a permit to mudlark. You need one in order to look for the treasures out there in case something belongs in a museum so everyone can enjoy it! In case you are interested in those type of videos may I recommend a few channels to you? For one you have “Nicola White Mudlark-Tideline art”(she really has a wealth of knowledge and collection of clay pipes) then there is “Si-finds Thames Mudlark” , this young man really knows his history.
