I get where your concern comes from, but yoongi would never quit music. I think out of all of them he's the one who holds onto it the hardest. He just doesn't like being unable to have a normal mundane life, which is understandable. But he has a much more optimistic perspective of life than people give him credit for. Yes, he can say stuff as agust d that he can't say in bts, but that doesn't mean in any way, shape or form that what he says in bts songs is a lie. And in the last album they released, they talk about embracing their shadows and learning to live happiliy knowing those shadows are there and they will never leave, ESPECIALLY yoongi. That's what "bring the pain on" and "we are, together, bulletproof" means: sure, shit is gonna go down all the time and they will suffer at times, but now they know how to face it all and get back on their feet. Yes, Mots: 7 is about all they struggled with these past 7 years, but it's also about how they overcame it all and became stronger. Never forget yoongi is the one who said "i might fall on my knees, but as long as they don't get buried on the ground, i'll get up again". So what if he's talking about how he fell down in some of these songs? He's made it more than clear that he's WILLING to burn whatever expectations he had in the past, face reality for what it is now, and fight for a brighter future.

THIS. I'm a month late to this comment but u nailed my thoughts exactly. I showed D-2 to my sis who was like, "Does Suga secretly hate being in BTS? (this mixtape must be the real stuff he wants to put out, right?)" Like Yoongi said in one of their recent interviews during Dynamite promotions, him in BTS as Suga and Agust D are really the same person. BTS as a group has expanded so much more than only music over the years, but in the end, Yoongi will always be a musician/artist at his core but at the same time will always be loyal to BTS and what they as a group stand for. It's also so true that he is so much more positive and optimistic of life than people often give him credit for. He's also quite a complex person, but he will never change as a person nor a musician

Honsool is comforting to me, because it feels exactly like depression. I don’t drink, but that is what depression feels like, and it never goes away. Some days are okay, some are good, some are bad, some are really, really horrible and they feel exactly like honsool. It’s meant to make you uncomfortable if you aren’t familiar with that feeling. However I think if you know that feeling well, it’s comforting. Set me free is beautiful as well, because it is also something I feel all the time, praying for the world to just end my existence. It’s a constant monologue on some days.
We need to remember that these songs weren’t necessarily written recently. Many of them were likely written a while back, and the boys have already discussed that they no longer are considering disbanding. There are bad days and good days. I’m sure on some days, Yoongi just wants a different life, and he uses his craft as a coping mechanism, as all artists do. However the boys have each other, and we know from the festa dinner party that Yoongi was feeling down before D-2 released. He wanted someone to reach out to him (relatable af), and Hobi texted him to ask him out for dinner. That apparently went really well according to both Hobi and Yoongi, so we know they have each other to talk to when they need it.

That whole ordeal regarding "What do you think?" Was the single most mentally exhausting things I've witnessed. Honestly if I felt this heartbroken over the fact that ppl misunderstood Yoongi's intentions I can't even begin to imagine how he felt himself. I was genuinely worried for his mental health because of this. I know he's strong and even if people try to censor his art that won't stop him from doing what he loves but society loves painting ppl they can't understand as villains and it's ridiculous.
Using a speech as a way to criticize and mock is something that's not new in the music industry so Idk how ppl would think he added that in to support his message? There's nothing wrong with being uncomfortable because tbh that intro makes my skin crawl too but all I did was skip that part and kept it pushing. Ppl writing a 4 page dissertation on how they are disappointed in him and leaving the fandom are literal clowns. I mean let's say the ones calling him "nazi" and other fucked up shit are antis who jumped on the opportunity to end his career, but what's the other Armys excuse for acting this way towards him? Yikes
I just hope he gets comfort in knowing there are people that understand his art and his true intentions...

You're absolutely right on "What Do You Think?". The reason why Yoongi put it in was the same reason every other hip hop rapper does: To contradict it. Antis/kpoppies tried to spin it like Yoongi was glorifying Jim Jones by putting his anti-black speech in his song, but what they failed to research was that Yoongi put Jim Jones anti KOREAN speech at the beginning of his song. It was not the black one. He put it in the beginning to then use his song and basically tell him "You're wrong".
Kpoppies blew it out of proportion then called Black Armys that told them to relax c**ns and other racial slurs. It was really disgusting. They kept saying that Yoongi didnt care about black people and forced him to apologize and change his song. They made Army feel like shit for trusting in BTS.
But then like a week later it was revealed BTS donated 1 mil to Black Lives Matter, proving us right. The thing to consider too is that kpoppies/antis never ONCE kept the same energy for the other 13+ rappers that used Jim Jones speech too. ONLY Yoongi. It's some bullshit and to this day I'm pissed he even had to change the song at all.

I don't think jim jones was particularly anti-black; he was an opportunitistic man who realized that it'd be easier to control a marginalized group of people and black people were his target. his action was still very anti-black though, so I completely get why black stans felt hurt by the sample. soon after, bighit released an apology and turns out the other producer sampled the speech for aesthetic reason and they uploaded the non-jim jones version.
what's shitty about this controversy is that kpop stans use it to paint bts and army's as anti-black, meanwhile making insensitive jokes about kool aid and genocide and silencing black army's for voicing their own opinion, calling them jim jones stans. it's how they ignore other artists who have sampled jim jones as well just to pin the blame on yoongi. all we can do at this point is to block and report honestly.

Wtv his decision in the near future will be, I'll support him. I'm also glad you understand BTS yknow their sound and esp when they express their sht thru their music (which is majority of the time) which ig since you're also an aspiring artist.
Ah I was writing this comment before your commentary at the end. I rlly be the same as you, wanting to make music and at the same time wanting to touch ppl's lives. Technically, before I just wanted to make music for myself, but after knowing BTS I also wanna make music for other ppl now. Altho it's unlikely, it's still a big dream. Hope you're happy in all your endeavours Z, power to you 💜

So... I think that a lot of songs that the boys release end up being from years ago. So, for example, Jhope wrote Blueside in 2015. He isn’t saying anything in that song except that he he is feeling very down. But he released that 2018. So, for Yoongi to release Honsool could be how he feels now, but could also be how he felt at one time consistently, but now he feels it ever so often. I remember he said that he has stopped drinking so much while making songs; cause that was so real for him at one point. To the point that he was drinking in their movies.

“... though you are dead, yet you shall live,
And he that liveth and believeth shall never die...
...faithful workers coming in night after night, giving me their heart, giving me the spirit of socialism...”
You were right about the mockery part. I forgot the reason, but je used this quote exposing society, as this is how a lot of people think. He just didn’t do the full amount of research on who said these words, and he was so apologetic for it. He regrets not doing thorough research and learned from his mistakes. They also removed the speech from the song on all official platforms. Only outdated lyric videos still have this audio in them...

honestly when the members drop songs and mixtapes with lyrics as hard hitting as this, it's hard to not feel worried, but yoongi's also said so many times in the past year that he feels the happiest now that he ever has. a lot of these songs were written years ago, and a lot of them reflect human experiences that we all go through and think about, even if it can be hard to hear. yoongi tends to be the type to put all of his emotions into his music, so it can make some pretty heavy stuff, but i don't really think we, as fans, should be worrying over these lyrics. in recent content (esp beginning of 2019-now) he hasn't shied away at all from expressing how happy he is with the people around him and where he is in life

Yoongi used the Jim Jones clip as way to say "what do you think...* about groupthink, or blindly following something or someone without understanding them/it. Jim Jones had two idioms people reference and use in everyday speech that refer to him, and the first is "Don't drink the koolaid.. " which is like a way to say don't get caught up in thinking something just because other people do. The second is "the blind leading the blind" which is another way of saying someone is following someone who can't see either, neither can see and therefore both are lost. Jim Jones was a psychopath, but he honestly believed in the things he was saying, crazy as they were. So he was blind, leading the blind to their deaths.
Yoongi is addressing haters, and his rivals in k-hiohop mainly. So what he might be trying to say is that these people have false information about him but they are blindly following anyway without learning to think for themselves. It's definitely telling them NOT to be this way.
It's a shame he was called out and even worse that he felt the need to apologize for it. :/

I do think Yoongi hates being famous. He has way too much self-awareness and emotions not to have that hate feeling.
Yet, he loves music, performing, probably even the exhaustion. He doesn’t stop even when he doesn’t have to do the extra stuff. His drive, his expression, his needs when it comes to an audience appreciating his creations is extremely strong.
    So I think it’s a natural love/hate relationship.

I don’t listen to his first mixtape much and I thought it’s because I don’t listen to “sad” music casually but D2 literally made me cry and I listen to it nearly every day. Yoongi is so relatable. I remember when I first got into bts yoongi said smth like “it’s okay if you don’t have a dream or a goal just be happy going into this new year” and like the way I needed to hear that right then and there. He just gets it, knows how to put it into words

I think the most amazing thing about this mixtape is how Yoongi creates a "soundscape" with his songs, like you don't need to know the lyrics but you can just feel THE emotion and its like your transported elsewhere, especially with Set Me Free and Honsool. I would say that I don't think Yoongi hates being famous, I just think he (and all the members of BTS) are constantly looking back and reflecting on where they were and where they are, I think he likes to reflect on how his thoughts have changed, how his goals have changed, how he perceives things has changed. I think it might be to do with the fact that BTS have fought more than most artists to be where they are now, so it must feel strange and foreign to them at times.

D2 is just very special, very beautiful that as someone who will even listen to basic ass pop as long as its hype, energy, power, fast rythm, i really didnt expect to connect with D2 like this. Yoongi gets the win for this im sorry to bts but this album managed to recreate my entire music taste, its more powerful than all bts albums combined
