Superb Stefan - Really enjoying your 2023 Advent Series of drawings. This chalk and charcoal effect is really giving me the itch to have a go myself. Keep up the great work, and keep the videos coming 👍
@@VesperAU I just guessed the lighting. One of the ideal setups for a car photo is on a big open, uncluttered space (like a beach or desert), on a cloudless day just after the sun has dipped below the horizon. That way there's still plenty of light in the sky - but it's not too harsh/contrasty and you get light from a very large area. The result is a nice reflection of the horizon running along the side of the car (which picks out any curves). Being on sand or something means any lower reflections are very plain (as are the sky ones if there are no clouds). That's quite a good thing to aim for when doing an illustration as it's very flattering and a lot more manageable than some of the lighting situations you can come across. Studio shoots often artificially create a very similar setup using an enormous Lightbox above and black boards to create a horizon. Hope that makes sense :)
@@StefanMarjoram thank you for a very detailed response. That definitely provides a lot of context. What you said about the horizon following the middle of the car I've seen a lot. That also help me contextualize what I've seen in those studio shots of cars. There was an old Porsche computer wallpaper I had that showed that lighting rig and now I understand what's happening a lot more. Thank you!
hey stefan, your videos are amazing and i love your drawings , can you please next draw more ferraris in your under 10 minute car tutourials . i would love that as i love ferrari . thanks bud!
We need more videos mate. You're always a huge inspiration.
That's wonderful to hear - thanks very much! There will be a new one this weekend :)

Excellent - good luck!
So sooo good Stefan. Still never ceases to amaze me where say the initial sketch turns to the final product.
I was pretty surprised too! The initial sketch was pretty rough :)
I know you've done 356s before, for this do you use a reference to work out the highlights or do you go by experience and feel
