Hi Jonny, May and October to January are often thought to be good, but Mother Nature always wins! I have been at Everest with zero visibility in late December (a freak snowstorm), but also no views in late September (cloudy/rainy), and no views in August the day I arrived, but then glorious views the following morning. The best chance is avoiding July/August, but that said, as you see, it's really variable!

Thank you. I hear trek from tingiri to ebc on tibet side is good and can be done in 3 to 4 days. A lot of people want to combine this trek to ebc with kailash manasarovar trip. Would tour operators do that?

Honestly, we've never done the trek and don't plan to, because that particular approach/scenery does not seem to be as interesting as, for example, ganden to samye or at Kailash (or the EBC trek on the Nepal side) -- until, that is the final day, which you can experience without the trek. This isn't to say it doesn't have advantages and that you wouldn't want to do it -- that's just our perspective. We'd rather spend the precious days in Tibet on some of the other glories. You can combine the trek on a private tour in Tibet, no problem. Also, you may want to check out the Kharta Valley trek at Everest. We're planning to do that ourselves on the next journey to Tibet. 🙂

Sorry, we only know about tourist visits to base camp, not about actually climbing the mountain.

haha no, it's pretty basic accomodations. You might be able to get beer or chang at the tent guesthouses, but definitely no bar.

Why is it extremely risky to travel from Kathmandu to Lhasa but not risky to travel from Lhasa to Kathmandu? It seems that starting at Lhasa is just as risky if not more than starting at KTM in terms of risk of altitude sickness?

Hi, because of the days and altitudes of travel, you go very high very fast in the Kath to Lhasa direction. Many people get ill. If you're starting in Lhasa, you are generally already decently acclimatized when you start the journey, plus you don't go as high as fast -- the extreme difference is more downhill in this direction.

Let's hope China have tough laws preventing littering on camps.....watching youtube videos on base camps and other camps in Nepal with rubbish littering all around is disheartening man.....
