Worked BEAUTIFULLY! Nothing else on the internet was working and a carpet cleaner quoted me $80 just to come out and try to get it out - no guarantees. Your explanation of the science was super solid so I figured why not give it a shot.... I literally gasped when I took off the UV light - the stain just vanished. Thank you so so much - you saved my security deposit!
OMG thank you!! Turmeric on light carpet from spilled chicken soup...THIS WORKS PEOPLE! 3 different carpet cleaners said there was a 2% chance to remove it. This cost me 10 bucks!
This is my first time leaving a comment on RUclips, I just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm renting a place and my child split herb medicine on the carpet... it turned out to be a turmeric stain. I tried EVERYTHING but the stain stayed... until I saw your method and tried. Stains are ALL GONE! You saved >2K dollars for me!! I can't say more thank you to the sharing. Thank you Thank you! God bless.
Thank you so much. I used 3% peroxide and a 30w uv light. 5 mins for light stains and 10 - 20 for a couple of heavy dark orange ones. Worked so well. I love understanding the science too!!
I tell you the easy way, just clean the area with wet cloth first then make a paste of baking soda, dishwashing liquid, water and apply it as a paste on the stain area , leave it for 10 minutes, then take a clean wet cloth and clean the area and see the magic, 😮today I did that , i am impressed, no marks left😊
@@calmit23 when I tried, it was a fresh stain, like I droped curry bowl on the carpet, and immediately I googled and did that, I rubbed for long time, cleaned the area many times with dumped cloth, then it gone but I did that immediately.
Thank you so much for posting this video! I had a similar experience to another one of the comments where my dog is taking turmeric supplements and got sick. It left horrible bright yellow stains that professional cleaners said would never come out. I was willing to try anything and came across this. It is actually working. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
This is one of the most amazing things I have seen in my life. We have a expensive berber area rug at our front entrance. Two weeks ago I ordered a curry takeout and when it was delivered, the bottom of the paper bag was wet, it came apart when I picked it up and one of the curry dish containers fell landed on the area rug, flipped over and I had this curry dish all over a large area of the carpet. I spent a half hour using our spot carpet cleaner getting it all up and I was so pleased that after the clean up there wasn't even a hint of residual curry odor. The next when I opened the front door I was so disappointed to see that when the sunshine hit the front of the rug, there was a distinct yellow curry stain left behind. After research on curry stain removal. I figured my only option was to live with the stain or replace this expensive rug. Then I came across your video. I purchased the 6% peroxide and the UV light from Amazon for about 35 dollars in total which was a fraction of what it would cost to replace this rug. I have to work one area of the carpet at a time. The stain was too big to get it all in one treatment but as I am typing this, I am using this method and so far the stains are about 80% gone. I am gobsmacked at the genius of this and I cannot thank you enough.
I checked many other methods nothing worked and even the carpet cleaners said that there is no guarantee but this method does the magic. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I cannot thank you enough for this video and your knowledge! You saved my brand new carpet from a HUGE turmeric stain caused by a supplement my dog ate. Prior to finding this video, I put a spot cleaner on it, which made it bleed 4x the size. I then tried an oxy cleaner on it with sodium bicarbonate and it turned red, then white vinegar which turned it back to yellow again. OMG the drama. I tried hydrogen peroxide 3% and nothing, but your video instructions with hydrogen peroxide 6% and this UV light are ultimately what did the trick. I am so grateful. Your video saved the day and my brand new carpet. Thank you sooooo much!
It's incredible! In Asian households, feeding kids often leads to stains on clothes and carpets, with turmeric being the main culprit. I tried several stain remover products, but nothing worked as well as this method. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us!
This worked 100% on a 2 day old tumeric stain from spilt soup. Thanyou,I am over the moon with the result. Ps: It took about 30 minutes all up with a 40watt lamp I use to cure my nail polish and 3% hydrogen peroxide.🎉
Worked charm. Thanks for the idea keep on the good work mate. Worked with 3% hydrogen peroxide and 10w uv light just put it for 5 -10 min worked like charm. Thanks heaps again
Just wanted to add that this is amazing and helped removed lily pollen stains that were rubbed in!! Couldn't believe my eyes after trying everything. Just needed a little patience with the UV light.
Wow! We had an expensive new rug with a dog vomit / turmeric stain (don't ask ;-) that I thought was permanent. Thank goodness a Google search turned up this video. I spent $35 on Amazon for the peroxide, UV light, and some UV glasses, which turned out to be unnecessary, and spent all of 30 minutes getting the rug looking good as new.. Thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This 100% worked on my dogs throw up and runny stool. Also I ordered a UV light from Amazon that will arrive in 2 days. I've been rubbing the stained area with multiple products, should I keep doing that or something else before I get the UV light and can do the experiment? Thanks again! I hope your method saves me!!
Was skeptical but this works great!! I used 3% hydrogen peroxide and a black light flashlight because I didn’t want to buy something expensive. Sprayed the peroxide then set the flashlight directly on the carpet for 15 minutes (even though it said not to 😅). 3 large turmeric stains completely gone. Saved me from buying a whole new carpet

Hello! I spilled yellow diffuser oil on my grey carpet and tried your UV light trick. It didn’t quite work - maybe because it’s oil? I’ve watched some of your other vids but can’t see any on diffuser oil specifically - do you have any tips for removing this? Thanks so much 😊
Unfortunately, hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone will not break down curcumin (yellow pigments in turmeric). hydrogen peroxide and UV light is required for turmeric stains. These reactions are from a branch of chemistry called electrochemistry, meaning that they are dealing with electrical current and voltage. The voltage of the reaction with hydrogen peroxide and ammonia is lower than the voltage of the hydroxyl radicals that are produced from hydrogen peroxide and UV light. This higher voltage reaction is what is needed to break down turmeric stains. Good luck and great question!
Hello! Do you think this technique would work for dog bile vomit stain? I may have given my dog a turmeric supplement before he ate the grass that instigated the puke. I've tried all the things that usually get dog bile up with failure.
I would try using hydrogen peroxide without UV light as a first step. Hydrogen peroxide and UV light creates a stronger oxidation reaction, but this method is not always necessary to remove stains. In this case it is not guaranteed that the stain is caused by turmeric, so that is why I would start with hydrogen peroxide. Please check out this video for details on using hydrogen peroxide without UV Light: ruclips.net/video/d1Toi44x7pY/видео.html If hydrogen peroxide doesn't work, you can try adding UV light as shown in this video.

The short answer is: I would stick to using hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone for coffee stains. There is a case where I would add UV light. Let me explain below: Coffee stains are caused by two molecules that get stuck to the carpet fibers. The main molecules is called a melanoidin pigment, the other molecule is called a tannin pigment. Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone will break down the melanoidin pigments. If you have repeated the hydrogen peroxide and ammonia method 3 to 4 times, and are still left with a faint brown stain, it is probably caused by tannin pigments from the coffee. Tannin pigments are not easily broken down by hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone. It is rare that these tannin pigments cause a problem from coffee stains. Typically the tannin pigment concentration from coffee is so low that it doesn't result in any staining of the carpet. But if you do have a faint brown stain after using the hydrogen peroxide/ammonia method 3 to 4 times, you can try using hydrogen peroxide and UV light afterwards to try and break down the remaining stain caused by tannin pigments. Don't use hydrogen peroxide and UV light on your carpet for an extended period of time though. Approximately 1 hour or less is enough to remove the remaining stain.
Hello, please can you advise me if the recommended Hydrogen Peroxide can be used straight from the bottle? Or do I need to dilute it with water first? Thanks
Thanks so much for this . I got turmeric powder on the carpet 4 days ago. Since then i tried getting it off with vinegar, bicarb , water + washing up detergent, but it spread the stain so I now have a larger, patchy stain with more of a pale beige color. I think I got the carpet too wet and also the carpet has got worn from my scrubbing :( i then tried using Vanish carpet cleaner , a few times, but there is stil a stain. Is it safe to now use this method and will it work to get the remaining colour from my carpet?
Yes, this method should work for you. It sounds like you got most of the stain out so the UV light and hydrogen peroxide method should work very quickly. Let me know how it goes if you try it. Good luck 🤞
@@TheStainGuide thanks so much! I'm just wondering whether there might be residue left from the other cleaning products, could the chemicals react with the hydrogen peroxide and cause a problem? Or it's ok?
I would say it is unlikely that residue from the products you have used will create an adverse effect. Some of the cleaning agents that you have used possibly have a high pH. The high Ph residue could speed up the reaction. This means that you can check the progress more frequently. I think in the video, I checked and moved the light every 15 minutes. Maybe check the progress every 5 minutes or less.
Will this work in LV flooring? I dropped a huge bottle of turmeric liquid on my luxury vinyl floors.. 😢 I've tried literally everything do you have any suggestions?
This method should work on vinyl flooring as well. I have used this method to remove turmeric stains from wooden counters and it worked well. Just mist 6% hydrogen peroxide over the stained area, then shine the UV light on it. I'd suggest testing the method in an inconspicuous area to ensure that it doesn't cause damage to the vinyl. Since vinyl is a synthetic material, and dyed with synthetic dyes, it is highly unlikely that it will result in any damage. Good luck!
This method will remove turmeric stains from wool carpet, however, it is possible that it could damage the wool fibers so I do not recommend it. I have also never used this method to remove a turmeric stain from a wool carpet or carpet made from natural fiber so I cannot say whether it would cause damage if only used for a short duration. There was a person who left a comment on one of my videos saying that he removed a turmeric stain from his white wool carpet without any issues using this method.
Do you need to keep spraying more hydrogen peroxide in between the 20 minute black light intervals. And how many times should it take before the stain is gone.
Most of the time one hydrogen peroxide application is more than enough. the total time needed under the UV light depends on how bad the stain is. If the stain is light in color it may only take 5-10 minutes under the UV light for the stain to fully come out. If the stain is dark, like the one I removed in the video, then it will take more time under the UV light.
Thank you for your response. This technique has really helped. I have gotten most of the color of the turmeric out. I have continued to spray more hydrogen peroxide because it seems dried up after the black light sits on it for 20 minutes. There are still a few droplet type spots (this happened from my dog chewing on turmeric capsules and then vomiting it up on my carpet). So, should I just keep exposing to the UV light until it all disappears and not spray anymore hydrogen peroxide.
@@ljern0222 no problem, anytime. Adding more hydrogen peroxide in between UV light intervals isn't going to hurt the carpet. Like you pointed out, some areas will take longer than others.
I use a UVA light that has a 395nm wavelength, which falls under the UVA spectrum. I think most UV lights are roughly the same wavelength (395nm) and should work just fine.
I have never tried using cream developer on a turmeric stain. The UV light might not be effective through the cream and it might be difficult to get the cream out of the carpet afterwords. Those would be my two concerns.
Yes, the UV light does produce heat. I would advise not placing the UV light directly on the carpet. Technically we should only use UV lights to remove stains that are already set in. I mostly use UV lights to remove turmeric stains. Most other stains can be removed with simpler methods described in some of my other videos.
@@TheStainGuide thank you for your response. There’s a common piece of advice to treat stains with hydrogen peroxide and lay out in direct sunlight. I did that for spots on a white tshirt but they turned yellow. Is there any way to undo the oxidation? I understand this is a carpent cleaning not a laundry channel. I hope you don’t mind me asking
@@aliensuperstar1233 no problem, I'm happy to answer your question. Say your shirt is made out of cotton, what you are seeing is the original color of a cotton plant on the new spots on your shirt, which is not perfectly white but has a hint of yellow/brown. When textile industries make white fabric for clothing, they start with cotton that is a yellow/brown color and then they bleach it with a reducing agent and add whitening agents to make it perfectly white. Unfortunately, what has happened to your shirt is you have undone the bleaching that was done with a reducing agent by using a strong oxidizing agent (hydroxyl radicals). Additionally the whitening agents have probably been broken down by the hydroxyl radicals. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix your shirt, or at least no easy way that I am aware of. Sorry I can't help you fix it ☹️. Also this happens to fabrics other than cotton, like synthetic fibers too.
it turnsv out that you can’t really remove the turmeric. However, if you treat it with hydrogen peroxide and put an ultraviolet light on it for about 20 minutes or so you no longer see the stains.
A 30W UV light will work, but make sure you check the progress frequently as this is a stronger light and can more easily remove color from the carpet if left for a longer period of time.
Putting this method to work on my kids new minecraft tnt block area rug, he accidentally knocked over and dumped half the turmeric spice bottle I had sitting on our bathroom counter to make my tooth paste mixture, crazy it White's teeth, yet totally stains dyes fabrics, lol. I thought instantly it was a lost cause knowing turmeric is used for dyeing fabrics and has for centuries...but I looked it up, and hope this works
@@emilysmith1000 I didn't have a UV light, so I went with my same old concoction, dawn dish soap, baking soda and white vinegar, scrubbed soaked scrubbed soaked, for about a week alternating and yeah, that worked, there's never acually been any stain that that method doesn't work,in my 25yrs of doing laundry and stains, its always worked,it's a matter of putting that much time and effort into it.. and well, sometimes, depending on where the stain is, it's just not worth that much time and effort. But this, was my kids rug sort of a special thing we had gotten himvfor his bathroom, and it wasn't his fault, i didnt put lid back on my turmeric, he didnt even know what it was. @@neciasilver5357 thanks so much for your reply! I tried this method too, but I may have done it wrong as I only had apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar... The stain spread out but is pale yellow/beige... And from scrubbing, the carpet has got quite worn, so I think the fibres may be too soft to keep scrubbing... I ordered the UV light so i will try this way... 🤞🤞🙏 (And now i know in future not to panic and start trying to clean a stain without research!!)
@@emilysmith1000 apple cider vinegar won't really change anything in the chemical compound that is our focus on removing a stain. Your stain, it is just turmeric right? Or was it mixed with other foods?
Fair point. Most people don't have one. If you are able to take the carpet into direct sunlight, the sunlight would work as a UV light. Unfortunately, turmeric stains cannot be removed without UV light because the UV light is what splits the hydrogen peroxide molecules into hydroxyl radicals. Just make sure you take the carpet out of the sunlight right after the stain disappears. If you don't, it might start to take the color out of your carpet.
Technically yes, that will absolutely remove the stain because the sun produces ultraviolet radiation. I don’t have much experience with doing it that way so I’m not sure if the intensity will damage the carpet.

Good luck!
Would this work on natural wool carpets? I read elsewhere that perhaps not?
This method will remove turmeric stains from wool carpet, however, it is possible that it could damage the wool fibers so I do not recommend it. I have also never used this method to remove a turmeric stain from a wool carpet or carpet made from natural fiber so I cannot say whether it would cause damage if only used for a short duration. There was a person who left a comment on one of my videos saying that he removed a turmeric stain from his white wool carpet without any issues using this method.
Do these methods work on looped carpet?
Yes, absolutely!
I am about to try this method as I have tried so many other methods and failed. Can I use 3 percent hydrogen peroxide or do I really need a 6 percent?
3% will work but it will take more time than if you were to use 6%.
I have lots or turmeric curry stains on my carpet. Shall I go higher concentration and use 12% hydrogen peroxide with UV?
@AbhinavSharama0160 I recommend using 6% hydrogen peroxide. 12% is very strong and not necessary for this.
Hello, would a 6w uv nail light work? Thank you
I think it will work. It might just take more time that what was noted in the video.
@@TheStainGuide ok, thank you 😊
Could you please include the link for the UV light?
All product links, including the one for the UV light, are provided in the video description.
Can we use iron /press on stain if we don't have uv light ????🥹@@TheStainGuide
Where can I get the UV light? That you are using?
I bought mine on Amazon.com. Here is a link to the one I am using: amzn.to/3PU1BXl
This worked for me!! Thank you.
Great!
can i try this on Tupperware?
I’ve never tried it so I’m not sure.
I might try soaking the stained Tupperware in an oxygenated bleach (like Oxiclean) first.
Can you use a UVA Light? ( blacklight )
I use a UVA light that has a 395nm wavelength, which falls under the UVA spectrum. I think most UV lights are roughly the same wavelength (395nm) and should work just fine.
I have cream 20 volume developer can I use that?
I have never tried using cream developer on a turmeric stain. The UV light might not be effective through the cream and it might be difficult to get the cream out of the carpet afterwords. Those would be my two concerns.
Does the UV light produce heat? Is there any type of stain that would be set by UV light and should therefore not be treated with this method?
Great if you have the money to buy those items
Thank you so much! Youre a lifesaver!
is the carpet wool or man made?
I only recommend using this on synthetic materials, not natural fibers like wool or silk, etc.
I love you. Period.
The uv light link is broken
it turnsv out that you can’t really remove the turmeric. However, if you treat it with hydrogen peroxide and put an ultraviolet light on it for about 20 minutes or so you no longer see the stains.
How many people have a UV light in their home at the time they accidentally spill turmeric water on the carpet? 🙄
Or hydrogen peroxide

Hi, just managed to stain my carpet with an indian dish which has turmeric in it. the stain is about 5cm wide so would a 30w UV light be too much?
A 30W UV light will work, but make sure you check the progress frequently as this is a stronger light and can more easily remove color from the carpet if left for a longer period of time.
@@TheStainGuide Sweet, thanks so much!
I love your videos. Very interesting.
Happy to hear that!
Did it work?
The white rug was like 40$ on amazon, so ya, to us, it was worth the time and effort to get stain out.
@@neciasilver5357 ah ok. Thanks for the info! Yes, it was just dry turmeric powder.
This works great. Actually you won’t need hydrogen peroxide and I used pencils instead of chopstick
We don’t have uv light at home
I literally have this turmeric stain like in a lot of spots right now
Yellow Mustard doesn’t have Tumeric - it is made from mustard seeds. 🤷🏻♀️
I just put Easy off on my carpet, and all food stains go away. Easy peasy
Does this works if I don’t get the UV light thingy? Can I just put the hydrogen Peroxide and leave it under the sun?
Technically yes, that will absolutely remove the stain because the sun produces ultraviolet radiation. I don’t have much experience with doing it that way so I’m not sure if the intensity will damage the carpet.
Mustered is different than turmeric
Mustard is made with turmeric. This will also work on mustard stains.
