From one of my personal experience in Thailand, one of the officer during regular checking asked me for my license, I showed him my Indian license and that was it. He didnt ask any other documents. Wearing helmet/seat belt is really important. So you can use your Indian license in Thailand without any problem (Though its better to have IDP). On the other hand, in Bali the officer asked me for my license as well as IDP.

If you are on a tourist visa you should have a valid IDP along with your country DL to Drive or Ride any rental car Or Bike. Without IDP your country DL not valid here and if caught by Thai police you need to pay fine.
