Yeah, the discounting blue mana not just colorless is crazy, especially in commander. This card can easily make your cheap blue spells free. And you add the flood counter on every turn, not just your own. This card is gonna be a blue commander staple for any deck that cars about casting lots of spells.
I just gotta say Dev, I hold off on making my list of cards to pickup from the set until I see you cover the previews, so thank you for being as thorough as you are with them. Also, Ziggy was great
19:30 - would be soooo insane if it did. Turning every food into a lightning helix to face?! ... with another copy 6dmg??? My Golgari deck would be on steroids. Still looks like an insane 2cmc uncommon in the right deck - Orzhov can really burn you into the ground, if unanswered the ceiling is crazy! Doubeling for 5?? Machine guns deployed. Will be fun!
I think you might have missed that eluge can make blue spells completely free, unlike basically every other version of that effect. That's a free cantrip or protection spell every turn, and after one attack you get free counter spells. Any deck that wants haughty djinn wants this card.
43:20 - Dour Port Mage - Temur Sabertooth has this effect as well, but doesn't require tapping. It's responsible for a bunch of combos in my decks. The effect is surprisingly rare. I think the tapping is probably a good nerf but a nerf nonetheless
I think Scavenger's Talent is the truth, mostly because of level 2. This card hadn't been previewed yet when I commented on all the things you can do with Rottenmouth Viper, but add it to the list. If you're able to create enough non-land non-creature permanents, you have the potential to 1-shot mill your opponent for just 4 mana later in the game. Just fill the board up with stuff. Pitiless Carnage is even more capable of combo killing because that also let's you sack lands. And maybe, _maybe_ , you want this in an Insidious Roots deck where levels 2 and 3 kind of fuel each other. Also note that level 2 commits a crime. Could be good in rakdos or grixis with Magda and Vadmir. Whenever you sack a treasure with Magda out, it gets replaced. And with Vadmir, you only need to sack 4 permanents to get his buff turned on.
That land is so sick man. I kind of want to play feast case t1, new orzhov enchantment t2 then just make fish to vote gain and lose life, maybe with some Sunken Citadel to increase the mana.
In edh, you can get infinite colorless mana, cast portent of calamity and reveal whole deck and then cast thassa's oracle for free. You can even put a counterspell, jace wielder of mysteries, perpetual timepiece, gitaxian probe and a land into hand, you should probably have a counterspell to ensure portent of calmity resolves. This way, if portent resolves but thassa's is somehow countered after, if you have enough blue mana, you can still play jace and draw a card with gitaxian probe to win, if that gets foiled, you can use perpetual timepiece to put thassa's oracle back into your empty library so you can try win again next turn with it lol. you also have a counterspell of your choosing to help you pull this off
I think Eluge will be better than you think because reducing 1 BLUE once per turn per turn (including opponent turns) is pretty good. Blue can probably draw cards like crazy once this reduction reach as little as 2 or 3. And yeah I really can't wait to play a land to be able to sacrifice one clue for 3 mana and draw a card out of it. It will truly be busted! Clues were never meant for this insanity.
Heirloom Epic with some form of token maker, and Virtue of Loyalty on the battlefield has some kind of potential I feel like. Interested in testing that one for myself.
Yeah I don't understand the lack of hype for Portent of Calamity. It's goes straight into domain ramp, where it's copies 5-8 of Atraxa or literally any card in the deck. I'm sure someone can work out the math, but so long as you build the deck with a spread of every card type and you pump enough mana into it, you're going to get the free spell most of the time. The conditions for making this card good are exactly the same as Atraxa. It can be even better than casting Atraxa in some spots. Like say you need to sweep the board. Atraxa might find you the sweeper, but then you don't have the mana to cast it. Portent has the potential to find the sweeper AND cast it while also refilling your hand, possibly with another Atraxa among other things.
The reason Scavenger's Talent is limited to once per turn is that it would otherwise be an infinite combo engine, even in Standard, and they already have infinite Food combos in Standard.
Regarding Festival of Embers... One of the problems I always find with burn decks is that if I am going against a strong aggro deck, I end up HAVING to use my burn spells on their creatures instead of their face... and I end up gassing... then they end up killing me with just a couple of creatures. With FoE, I can burn all their creatures to give myself the time needed to cast it... and then burn their face. I think the card could actually bring back pure burn decks.
So far, Honored Dreyleader actually makes me want to lean into going all in on a legit Squirrel deck. Seems like he could get out of control really fast and I cant imagine the deck would be too expensive to build.
Dude you don't waste our time, you are great. People watch you for who you are. Feed the cycle is good since artifact creatures are quite abundant atm. The problem is the 3 cards, so it won't help against mono red. Go for the throat is a pet of mine as a control player but it won't be that good with all these artifacts from the cowpeople imo. Man I think they overdo it so hard making MTG noob friendly. Removal and non creature spells in general are a joke at the moment and all creatures are pushed. All double subtype as well..

That raccoon may replace the graveyard trespasser in golgari mid decks. That’s even if we need graveyard interaction post-rotation.

Touch of Death is one of my favorite cards EVER. I ran Black/Red Burn with Soul Burn and Touch of Death... it was Fun.
