Tactics of boxing apply to striking with a push dagger 1) combinations are better than going for one big punch and 2) sniping at long range can disable, demoralize, or "prepare the way" to end things.
My wife carries the cold steel safe keeper III. I forwarded this video straight to her. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video!
Definitely the best push dagger review out there! This video is just jammed with information! He addressed everything about the design and the principles on using it. A million thumbs up!

This is my favorite push dagger. Good to see it is quite tough and can be used practically. Thanks for the vid.
Really appreciate your explanation of the blade and demonstration with regard to jabbing with it. No doubt this design is easily used (by trained /un-trained) as the punch or jab is a primal reflex for most people. The big problem with this and other daggers (push knives or regular knives) is that they are illegal to carry in most states. Again, great review and demonstration-thanks.
I'd put every citizen in a cell with a hardened criminal for a week. If they still don't believe in the right to bear arms after that, fine.
great video brother, i always enjoy hearing your take on the way an item can be used
Thanks! I know you normally prefer larger blades, if possible. Me too!
Personally, I see the traditional push dagger (not the "kiddie" push daggers, like the Urban Pal, or Mini Pal) as a last resort "kill or be killed" kind of weapon. Its thrusting design is very deadly, and it only takes 3"-3.3" to pierce vital organs in the torso region.
Someone with boxing experience/knowledge could put this in their right hand, and throw straight right hands, right shovel hooks, and just plain right hooks to the head and body to devastating effect. Nasty possibilities!
Good insight. Thanks Israel. I'd certainly welcome seeing more philosophy vids of this nature in the future.
Recently discovered the push dagger. I carry it scout style on my weak side. I think it's a great cqc ' get off me' weapon to create space to deploy my strong side firearm. No worries about my hand slipping onto the blade as with a conventional folder or fixed blade.
I'm in love with Push Daggers. They are fast to deploy, hard to take away from your hand, compact, comfortable and deadly. I want to buy all that I saw on your channel and more. Just wondering. What's your prefered push dagger if you had to actually carry one as an edc?
Nice, 9yrs later I’m buying one cause I saw this.
Excellent vid bro!! I carry the smaller sized version on my weakside to assist with my firearm retension and as a secondary defense weapon. I've always figured that a couple of stiff jabs with that, will get someone off of me for sure. Thanks Israel!!
It is always good to have a back-up and I think this would serve well.
This is probably my favorite model of push dagger.
Not sure why people would think you would break your hand, I've heard the same with knuckle dusters/brass knuckles. But that's mainly because the ergonomics are just not very forgiving for a lot of sizes of hands. Glad you did this video though, I know you touched on it a little in the comments for one of the push dagger reviews. Keep on it.
Good movement. Very precise. Everyone I've ever spoken to about a push dagger thinks that all you can do is jab. Your video here will be my argument. You should totally look in to ballistics gel for a testing medium.
Thanks! I remember them from when I was a kid !
I'm not sure. This one didn't become loose or anything. I'm not sure what shape the SK III's tang is, I don't think it would be a problem if the tang is the shape of the handle, since then it is unlikely that it could ever come out even if it is a bit loose.
melons wouldn't "bleed" like the jugs do, so it would be hard to see if the blade actually hit, and the wood is more like a bone would be
my first Cold Steel knife about 25 years ago was their Urban Skinner a push dagger and it came with a leather sheath. They still make it today but they changed the name to the Safe Keeper 3. It got me collecting Cold Steel products.
Thanks. I use a Sony Handycam HDR-XR160.
I carry the cold steel carbon fiber push dagger when jogging, its light enough to be secure in a waist band and doesn't have sharp edges so it doesn't cut me :)
I find your philosophy of the use of a push dagger as a self defense weapon to be very interesting.
I agree with you, that if used correctly, a push dagger can be a very effective self defense weapon. Your example of using the push dagger in the left hand (assuming you have boxing training and are an orthodox right-handed fighter) to perform Jabs, like in boxing, was a great example.
It would act as a deterrent to an attacker, and give you enough time to create distance to escape.
I like that double sided push dagger with a I've never seen one with four Hollow grinds that's pretty cool! I thought most of the like the Safe Maker One and Two from Cold Steel they're both chisel grind those are the only ones that I've had other than the bench made whatever it's called.
Yes, this one is better for the slashes.
Thank you, Blade!
My pleasure! I hope it helps her :]
Welcome back, buddy!
Do you bite them in half as they come in? lol :]
This one is, because it can slash well also.
i'll check him out
I’m only 155 lbs but if someone tried to grapple with me to use this knife they’d get seriously injured but if they kept to the outside, moved fast, and focused on multiple quick shots it’d be extremely difficult to defend against even with training. I’ve been doing Jim jitsu for years, I did years of wrestling in high school/middle school/college, and I’ve trained multiple other martial arts and anyone trying to grapple with me with such a large knife would have it hard to maneuver and unlike disarming a smaller push knife or regular knife once I got control of the arm/wrist without much damage I’d probably have to break either the arm/wrist and probably some fingers too. And at that point you have multiple fractures, you’re in a worse position up close, and your opponent has your very powerful weapon.
Sounds like you're pretty safe, most people don't know how to jab or do boxing footwork, they would get too close :]
Thanks, Sledge!
Perhaps you'd prefer watching a nutnfancy video about a dog instead.
Thanks!
Thanks bro!
Glad it helped!
I'm glad, if it helped her!
thanks, bro
yes, it gets hot out here!
yet another awesome video could you do a similar video with the use of a karambit ie the philosophy of proper use
Lol, good one, brother!
This one, because it can go all slashy.
Thank you! I have been a subscriber for a good time :P
Ahem, that's a video about a Tactical WROL Enhanced-Sensory Companion System (ESCS) able to fill multiple POUs and a valuable addition to TNP and ORS.
Great info. Thumbs up.
Very nice video brother. I have been looking at this knife for a bit now and it seems a lot of people refer to them as a lady type weapon. Well it just seems to me its the same male oriented weapon as any other knife. Just a hell of a lot faster deadlier and easier to use.
this would be great for panantukan
I have the Safekeeper 3, and the blade tang is getting loose in the handle. It's a good blade, but the handle issue got me peeved.
That depends where you live.
Will you make a video of you throwing one at a target? Also, what kind of push dagger could you recommend me? Please try to make it at a 30 dollar limit cause I can't go out spending like, 50 on a push dagger.
Great vid. Thanks!
With your height, you can jab them from 10 feet away :]
Yeah :] nothing says "love" like a push dagger.
Texas is supposed to be the weapon-friendly state, what is this country coming to.
Thanks, if they said that it tells me they're probably just scared of getting hit by one lol
yes true... ive had bad expierences that I've had to fight dudes twice my size, dont you think that its a lot easier to make them go down first before they do it to you?
Great vid!!!!, I wonder- have you ever drink water from a target ( water jug , or water bottle)?
yes
Whoops, sorry for the double post!
The problem with using a jab (w/ the push dagger) is I always bring the jab back to my face. I'd cut my own throat! :)
It's because I'm an evil bad person lol welcome to the channel
Can you throw a push dagger at a target? If you had enough practice?
that would be good and all in the privacy of yyour own home in texas but alas punch daggers as well as any dual edged blade is a nono for all around carry here single edged only sigh
YAY!
At grappling dirty boxing seems good when using this type
it's sad, we aren't even allowed batons here :( and no open carry
Dude ur turning me in to pinkie pie u better hide
For thrusting daggers like these, why not use melons to demonstrate?
lol. gold star!
Why are ratings disabled? btw first
Cool
So many knives :3
Carry mine every day 🤜
Thanks for watching. See, it has kept you safe for 15 years :]
I'm sorry :[
I think you want to push, I think that is how you use them...lol
LOL
