You need to recheck your "heresy" theory regarding the Templars; the Templars kept mysterious ways about themselves and strove to connect themselves spiritually and holistically to a period of time at first thought to be Jesus, but much of there ceremony, tied to duality (equality) goes back much further. The Catholic Church in support of the King of France in 1300's used the term "heresy" because of the Templars mysterious methods of recruitment, training, fanaticism, and other secrets to include their wealth (the King of France was broke and it just happened at the time that the Pope was French). The Templars who had different arms (Hospitiliars, Knights of Malta, Teutonic Knights, etc.) that "disappeared" with all the wealth they amassed. One arm went to Switzerland and trained the locals to fight and they kicked the armies of Europe that ever went there. Some became pirates (pirating against the French and Spanish who tried to kill off the Templars), some went to Scotland, many went to Portugal.
