    Hm, i feel like the current combat system is probably the best on the market so i wander what can they really do to make it even better. Hopefully it doesn't become worse though, that would suck. Also, got to wander how is this going to affect gearing as well, hopefully we don't have to change too much of our current setup outside of maybe different crystals

      Nothing will feel the same and if it goes live in its current state it's definitely going to be a shit show for a while. Valks were tanky before but on lab they were straight up immortal regardless of how much AP you stack. The arbitrary decision of which classes get DR on their SA also makes no sense to me.

      @@Boonedale PA doesn't know anything. I would love to ask them why valk gets to be borderline immortal and still do as much, if not more damage than a lot of classes who get 1 tapped by everything no matter how much gear you get. The old devs had an idea what they wanted. Hell they were reluctant to buff ranger for a VERY long time because they clearly felt range shouldnt be that strong or protected (which was the correct way of looking at it btw). These days thats out the window, no weaknesses on anyone, little to no punishable gaps and totally random who gets to be tanky for free.
      The game is just a huge gearcheck at this point and the most skillful decision you can make is choosing the "correct" class aka one which has insane scaling and utility like valk with zero damage penalty.

      Considering jae and other devs plays their own game, but also have been proven to not understand even very basic pvp or pve knowledge about the game during interviews... even if they did test it. I doubt it would matter. Most the people at PA who play are really not that good at the game. :/ Yoshi-P, jae is not saddly.

      For what is worth I also noticed ~mid chart a jump from +8 to +83 (or something)... That a typo or something? I mean... Pre 420 DP (and I assume that is actually just the DP stat in the Stat menu, not the on toolbar DP, which is still hard to reach on non DP focused build and/or without II everything DG.) you get the literal equivalent of nothing in comparison to post that break point. That is not linear scaling that is "break point gaming". Like back in D2... pre some % Faster Cast speed =... you are an average lightning nova sorceress... on that % and higher... you are than playing your class. I, however, cannot tell which is "better"... Because when you grow in linear... you barely feel the difference @ any point. But with the "break point" or "magic number" once you become aware at where it is placed (usually at hard to reach place)... and after your struggle for it is over (one way or another, because you are fully aware you are a lot less powered or underpowered than you could be "with it"... of that all your efforts feel completely meaningless and as if they will never come to fruition) the power spike hit reflected in the (at least at first) dopamine sector during gaming is ~very nice... And of course humans like "very nice" and if the build (and or game) offers a few "hits" like that that you are aware of... you end up perusing them... While in the mean time linear mathematical growth by a factor of not ~roughly 10+ times... idk maybe not as exciting... But think about it that way... if both reach one and the same end point anyone and one of them is very nerve wrecking to the point you may never reach the end point (because linear growth as boring as it is... well because you are not really as underpowered as with break points pre "break point"... is much more likely to go the entire way... Or to put in actual numbers, if those shown are not wrong... pre that 83 you could and ~maybe should have been already working with around +76 rather than with +8... and than suddenly +83... the jump from like 76 to + 83 certainly wouldn`t be as exciting as from 8 to 83, if we assume any DP jump is exciting, but what also is true you will not have to achieve already hard overall DP point with less DP than you could have been doing it with. So there are those things, me thinks.

    I wish they change your main stance to Succession as an upgrade from main stance. Thus only Succession and Awakening is the main stances. You take a quest to move from Main stance to Succession permanently when you level 60.

      I see this way, evasion is for classes that have less SA and more s and forward guard abilities for protection. But yeah, I dont think full evasion is the route anymore, its probably gonna be a hybrid of both dr and eva thats gonna be the meta now.

    I feel like the combat is a reason why we don't really have some cool PVE content, I know PvP is the main focus of this game (though really?), but as someone who has mid-range pc and doesn't want to play on potato graphics I usually can't even join PvP content since I'd be a massive hindrance, at the same time I probably get why is some good PVE content so hard to implement since you can just i-frame everything and have protected skills etc.

    The dr reduction on slow classes is kinda fine, I can see that on succ nova/guardian/witch, but totally not strikers/mystic/valk/zerk.Its just dumb and unnecessary.
    And talking about acc/eva, perfect, will make the game more easy to balance!

    Isn't DR just better now, even for classes like Striker/Mystic? Evasion reduces damage sometimes, but DR will always reduce damage

      i think they will probably stack, dont?
      first the game will consider your evasion to reduce incoming damage by a %, then dr will reduce the resulting number in a flat amount
      if it is this way, new builds should probably reflect some balance of evasion and dr

      Higher rates of evasion will reduce incoming damage from low accuracy sources. Higher rates of DR will reduce incoming damage from high amounts of AP. No matter which gear set you equip, you will have a mix of both evasion and DR stats. You do not lose the effectiveness of one stat by equipping gear of the other stat. Which defensive stat you will prioritize will depend on the people who are attacking you.

      hard to tell until live but evasion probly still be the route for lot of class. it double dips, easier to stack since more flexible options, still requires high acc to counter effectively. also, evasion fallen god gloves are getting the same acc as dr gloves so there is no loss running them anymore.

      add it ONLY in a spefic test zone like BA with all types of mobs too. Like PvE BA version if you will.
      Else, hell no. Critical / Back / Down attack IS the important info here. There is absolutly no point to see numbers (outside of meantioned test zones). What do you gain to see the exact same numbers x3-6 or as it used to be x8-50 at 3 times per second?

      @@SoukenIDK Its toggleable in every other game - your con is largely moot, because if YOU don't like it - you can toggle it off and see what you like while OTHER players can see the info they like.
      There's no reason, other than for intended lack of clarity and transparency, for them not to exist. They do in fact, exist - but are disabled for us; they've accidentally streamed with them active before and they're available on Mobile.

      Still honestly dont see a reason to see them outside of testing purposes tho.
      Lets be honest, its BDO, there arent any "skill builds" to switch or a million tiny pieces to min max with.
      Its basicy a single number within a very tiny tolerance for each skill over and over per mob you hit.
      But yes, i guess thats mostly just a personal thing.

      @@SoukenIDK for exactly the reason you mention - and for on the fly data.
      Not everywhere functions like BA, so to have a singular testing zone wouldn't be 'best', albeit quite nice. Look at the various degrees of capped content; it would be nice to directly see at each Tier of Node War, in uncapped scenarios, when encountering a new class, as different buffs impact gameplay, etc - a lot of which you're just not going to encounter in a test tube or cannot be replicated for those reasons. It's just QoL and ease of use honestly. If we're also being honest, do we really think the average or even any large number of players are going to go to this test zone and try to do much of any of that? Your average player *at best* will test their PvE, and even that has variables and caps, etc.
      There's also quite a bit of variance between positioning, addons, and combos - as well, not to mention consumables/crystals, mob type, etc. Due to both gear and these or other factors, although also effort, that's why there's such a wide variance in PvE loot (loot buffs too, etc., ofc - not neglecting that ) even when comparing the same class, spec, or similar gear.

    I love how they keep shaking things up for better or worse. It's a huge risk, but it shows they're willing to take the risk, hopefully out of pride. Their software architecture must be malleable enough to be able to make such large changes. That's not an easy thing to maintain considering their code base is probably on the larger end compared to other games.

      These arnt big changes as far as coding is concerned this in its entireity is basically just a bunch of xml changes this is about as not risky as you can really get while still making changes. The planning and meetings easily took longer then actually doing these changes hell you could make all these changes in a afternoon. BDO code wise is also extremely small and simple. Even compared to older games like dragons nest, ragnarok online, or maple story. BDO like many other games have had their server binaries as well as source leaks over the years and bdo is... tiny... The game is absolutely insanely simplistic all things considered. Very few complex script or systems really with almost anything remotely close to complex being rather new.
      BDO is a "big" game to the end user but thats entirely due to copy paste more then anything. It feels big cause theres lots of the exact same things everywhere. Functionally everyclass, mob, quest, npc, even the orginal life skills, ect are just copy pasted with minor edits in the vast majority of cases. PA didn't have much money to starting out. They really streched their dev time and made the most of their limited budget and time. It shows a lot, but its also rather impressive how far they streched their assets with out it all feeling samey to the end user.
      But this is why BDO lacks many complex systems and it takes them so long to add new things. Because the core is so barebones, they have to built anything actually new from the ground up, while they can just push out simple changes like this very very quickly. The recent node war changes would have been 1000 times the effort of these skill changes. At least those would have required them rewritting/making new scripts for the node war system.

I'm even more impressed that their code base is tiny - I just spent the past week fixing another developer's rendering code that could've been done in a fraction of the code, yet they chose to write over a 1000 lines. In my mind, I was specifically comparing BDO to Skyrim - maybe unjustly - lol... My previous experiences have only been working on single player games at EA, so I'm sure it's more complex then what I worked on. It's a really good design to use XML config for this stuff.
      Speaking about complexity though. I think what's really insane is that each dimension added to a software system, at a minimum, increases the objective complexity (i.e. Cyclomatic Complexity) of the system by a power of 2. When I think about the 27 classes, DR, Evasion, DP, AP, all the hidden properties, and then all the real world properties like animation timing, network latency, it just seems like an insane thing to try to balance. It seems like a fools journey with no end. Kind of crazy they still try to balance - I know at EA, they wouldn't keep up this kind of maintenance.

    I have no idea how thr combat change will work out, but im pretty sure evasion not only got a huge nerf, its also being completly destroyed. But we will see and see the correction attempts afterwards. Implementing eva and acc in the game was a huge mistake anyway. Makes this mess of class balance even more impossible to balance. Just make dr builds. And make all buffs for pve only. Like monster ap and dp and no hp buffs or stat buffs. Because its pointless to fight someone with 10+ buffs while you have like 1-2 buffs on u. And disabling heal potions for like 60 seconds when getting hit by another player, would remove run, kite and heal tacticts and would reduce the fight to few meters instead of a footballfield. That means reducing all damages and buffing heal abilities. Which would also make a shai a very useful healer in pvp and create nom existent teamplay. But all of this wont happen and is just dreaming.

    lowkey id come back and play if they just added damage numbers i like seeing the amounts of damage im doing and tracking it and actually feeling my progression opposed too just playing and hitting things and seeing a health bar slowly drop

    I hope when they reintroduce mounted combat it makes more sense and uses either the main or awakening weapon, depending on what is more logical. It never made sense for example to have Valk fight with the sword on horseback, when she has a lance. That basically applies to all classes that have awakening polearm weapons too.

    nice changes, but why the hell striker gets the 25% reduction on damage while super armor? been out of the game for a while, but isnt striker like the strongest pvp class? why give a class with that kind of mobility, damage, and grapples, the highest dmg reduction out of any other class?????

    im dreading this is gonna wreck BDO totally, they've done combat overhauls in games before and after that the game died. After this disastrous NW overhaul, now they are coming with damage overhaul and I'm afraid Jae is just pumping out content without knowing the consequences.

I'm not for any of the late changes PA has done, they changed the fundementals of the game into some semi instanced PvE grind fiesta from what was once a PvP haven. And the world doesn't end if the game goes to shreds, im all good homie.

    they need to stop giving KR the patch first to play test especially PVP, they are by FAR the worst PVP region in the world, even pve players in other regions can beat their best to offer easily, the test should be released globally and other regions opinion need to be valued more on balance

      Now - you want both.
      The eva will cut your damage to 10%, which is then mitigated by the DR.
      Unpopular opinion, but this sounds better - at least if it gets properly fleshed out, but I'll also say even running it I've never been a resistance/evasion fan.

    Removing mounted combat too. Trade - removed, sailing - dead - mounted combat - removed, total item count - halved, life skilling - simplifed to absurdity.
    Coming from someone who has played since day 1, it's getting to that point that I may hang up the gloves. The past 2-3 years of changes have just been terrible, it's making the game mundane, boring and somehow even more bottle-necking it into certain activities. It feels like they brought in new devs that don't know what the fuck they are doing, so are just removing or simplifying things so their little pea brains can fathom it.
    And that is all before mentioned the fact that the new evasion system just acts as a damage reduction system. Like, literal damage reduction, not avoidance lol.
    Very, very sad times.

      I think removing items/complexity it fine, as lon as there are enough options for people to use. Just having one tool across your characters sounds good to me, at the end it is only a question if all life skills are viable/balanced.
      I agree that removing systems is not ideal, but maybe they were not used much, so instead of balancing them going forward, they just remove those to focus on other stuff. I never traded, sailed or used mounted combat

      @@Chris3s The new stuff they focus on: simplifying everything else. I had the same mindset the first couple of times, but it's getting ridiculous now. The new changes subtract the fun of things.
      Nodes with CP investment is bare-bones at this point, where as before it had complexity and was a bit through-provoking.
      It deffo seems they are dumbing everything down to the point that it caters to a more modern audience. I mean let's be real here too many complaints on accepting a Garmoth quest so they had to automate it. That's something special

      @@NightmareOni yea at the end it depends on how they handle it. The garmoth quest thing was a strange game problem solution though, having most things be auto-pickup is just QoL that most people want nowadays. With their pet system though they can't do that since it would invalidate those

    The PvP is anyway dead so who really cares? Most of it is restricted or gear capped. There is really no something that will change dramatically. Also open world is non existent so it really matters little I would say. Most ppl sit in Marni and that’s it
