Rajah seems most utilitarian and its my 1st XL folder because of that, however DBK boys tested the s35vn version of Espada XL, and they admitted it was supposed to be a meme review- and it blew them away how good of a buschraft knife it turned out to be. So it's not just a novelty item, it's not just a pocket self defense tool. This much self contained cutting edge must be usefull for hunters as well, i recon. Mayhem seems fun in a way how ArtisanCutlery Proponent, or PMP Beast are fun- big overbuilt folder, and in this case with added fidget factor thanks to atlas lock. So when choosing between espada xl or mayhem- tough question, im not going to lie, the main appeal of mayhem is that of unique(in the knife world at large) big fidget folder factor ;p
I am very disappointed to hear from you that these folders are very large and inconvenient. Thanks to ColdSteel for existing and making these knife works of art available to us. ColdSteel Talwar XL ctx-xhp, Espada large in aluminum handle, Ti lite 6 ctx-xhp , 4Max cpm20cv, Espada xl in aluminum handle, these are knives that I always carry with me every day, and believe me they are absolutely not uncomfortable. for those who want to feel safe, I recommend these phenomenal knives, which make an impression wherever you take them out.
@@iuliaiulia8993 you must be making good money to afford those knives! I personally would buy the G10 Espada XL if it had stainless steel or aluminum liners. I'm not a fan of the pure G10 handle. My Voyager XL and 4-Max Scout are constructed better IMO. As for the expensive Espada XL, I just can't justify the price or the weight. If I was carrying a full size 9mm pistol, I could probably deal with the weight of the S35VN Espada XL.
I’ve always appreciated that cs gives you two clips with opposite curves. Other companies would just supply one straight clip. I have an old lined lawman that I put both clips on so could be carried correctly in any pocket.
I now have the Rajah II xl, and the Voyager Clip Point xl. They are both great knives for the money. But yes the Rajah II is insanely big for a "Pocket Knife" But it does fit in my pocket :) Take care, have fun, and keep em sharp.
This is just a random comment that might he helpful. Both Wrangler and Lee Jeans are now pretty stylish, and they're built much better than Levis or more expensive jean brands. Both Wrangler and Lee are owned by the same company, so they're pretty much identical. I own both, and they have extremely deep front pockets, that are also sturdy. The Lee MVP jeans are really nice. You can pretty much run in them, because they have so much stretch.
Love the Rajah 2 and Espada XL. The Rajah is a work knife, and the Espada XL is a sword. Both are great. The Rajah 2 you can chop up meat in the kitchen and use the kukri style to chop in the front and gather in the back.
Love the look of the Mayhem, and haven’t personally tried an atlas lock yet, however, between the Rajah and Mayhem, wave opening with that thumb disc considerably sets these two knives apart.
Definitely not Mall Ninja blades. I own the same Espada blade and carry it when I have deep enough pockets. And I feel it all depends on where you go to make these blades practically. The Marauder knife is definitely on my list of blades to purchase.
The Espada has been around in both G-10 and 7075 Aircraft Grade Aluminum since the Japanese AUS-8A Days. So, it's been around for many years; it's not a New Design or Model. Flat Scales work better when it comes to concealment on Mega Folders. The Rajah has a 4.8mm thick Blade. The Mayhem is 12.9 ounces, with a 3.7mm thick Blade. Good Video! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
It saddens me that Cold Steel couldn't make the Luzon Large a decent knife. I have one. I used to carry it daily. However, over time, the blade retention became so loose, the knife became too dangerous to carry. It opened by itself and cut me badly 3 to 4 times. When it was new, it worked well. A folding blade shouldn't become loose like that after just one year. I know it's a Chinese made knife, so the construction is cheaper. It's also a liner lock, as opposed to a Tri-Ad. But, as self defense folders go, it's tough to beat the Luzon Large, if it's actually safe to carry. And in typical GSM fashion, they're refusing to honor their warranty on my Luzon Large.
I think in terms of weight, quality, and blade length, the Cold Steel Voyager XL knives are the sweet spot. I already carry a full size pistol. Having a heavy folder in my front jeans pocket is going to really weigh me down. The answer is no, I would not buy any of these. I certainly wouldn't buy the Mayhem at the price for an AUS-10A blade. I don't know much about the Atlas lock, but I doubt it's worth $200 extra.
I like having the Espada (G10) XL on hand just to make all my other cold steel XL’s (and large espada ) seem reasonable by comparison 😜. Mayhem on the way. BTW, what are your thoughts on the 6” Hold out and counterpoint? I have the 6” Hold out and a 4” counterpoint, and frankly I wish that were reversed .
With all due respect to the Mayhem (LOTS of my friends like and have this knife) I'll go with the Espada LG, XL & the Rajah 2 any day. Reason being that the "very" acute point on the Mayhem I have seen snap, with the slightest of lateral wiggles! That (for me) pretty much eliminates it as a martial blade. If it's point snaps on bone, that would be very bad, to say the least AND, for the money they're asking (both elite & budget versions), I'd expect a much higher degree of performance for that knife...
I don't see these as mall ninja knives. They have there place and purpose. Kudos to cold steel for making them and making them affordable and for making them high quality aswell.
Ive carried the Rajah2, Talwar , and large luzon. Absolutely usable. Im a weightlifter so i eat lots of protein. These larger knives make cutting chicken breast and steak a breeze. Always get asked why I carry such large knives and my answer is always why do you carry such tiny knives. 2-3in blades 😂😂😂 i consider anything over 4in to be large and my preference. In the end, I dont really care what anyone thinks because the knives are mine and i carry what I want. Dont like it? Oh well
So why is the Mayhem so much more expensive? I have a few of the formal Espadas with AUS8A steel, but I've never cut so much as a thread with any of them. It's a weapon. The Rajah II is a chopper and cuts vines like a machete, and it's cheap. It's my favorite as it can be used as a weapon or as a machete. The Mayhem isn't practical as a tool or a weapon. There's too much steel and it's too damn heavy. The Espada is really a pocket sword. As for the Rajah II, I _greatly_ prefer the old handle. I don't know why Cold Steel went to the present handle design, but I like the older one.

Cool ! No my bad
Super Cool !and I own the
XL Espada &
Rajah II
plus I would like to have a Mayhem as well. 😊

That Mayhem seems to be more of a Pocket Hog then the XL Espada and Rajah 2

Yes. I want to be able to snag the blade and have it open with the thumb catch on the pocket.
I own all 3 and then some . Great knifes

Sad they no longer product the Rajah I and Rajah II all black 😔
The Rajah 1 is bonkers. If they'd bring it out with CPM-3V or something similar, I'd pick it up no matter the cost.
If Cold Steel made a Voyager XXL, with a 6" blade, everyone would buy one. I believe they actually made them many years ago, but discontinued them.

In the middle of a fight for your life these knives weigh 1 oz each😂
Lots of handle for me to hold means lots of handle for my opponent to hold better for long-range than close quarters
