I remember watching this when I was 12-13 and sure enough 1 1/2 years ago I was sitting in a pit freezing my ass off, depressed coz we had to move for an all night ambush in an hour, and almost magically a cigarette from one of the British boys behind appeared in my mouth. The rest is history.
Worked my way through college doing autopsies as an orderly with a Pathologist. After over 250 and seeing near 40% of those who used tobacco, I nearly puked seeing the results on the slab. Most officers dont smoke, for 10 years I would tell my enlisted Marines stories of the morgue and what they would look like soon. Nearly made many of them puke. Not sure it did any good as most who were smoking were already addicted.
i LOVE the fact that u give straight facts about the corps and not BS and sugarcoat it. its good for poolees like me to know what REALLY happens. i already smoke (one cig a day) so im halfway there
I actually quit smoking when I was on the DEP with the Army. I put myself on Zyban (which worked) and started running figuring anything would help. Trouble was, when I graduated and was riding home with my parents (both smoke) I got a whiff of smoke and most importantly finally had to freedom to do so, and started right back up. Mom also had a package of Pop Tarts-the first sweets I'd had during my 15 weeks of OSUT.
I have no aspirations of joining the marines or military, ever. with that being said, I really enjoy hearing all of your stories. I think they're hilarious (some of them, at least).
Chewing tobacco, Skoal and Copenhagen are the most popular with Marines and Army, some dip redman, but that comes in pouches instead of pucks or tins, and those are packed in sleeves. Take a pinch and throw it in your lower or upper lip and the tobacco seeps into your gums and lips and actually cuts up your gums. its pretty terrible for you, but it keeps you awake and its something to do when bored. I started dipping when I went into Recce PL (Recon) everyone dipped in Recce/Sniper PL.
Shit, I was smoking for a year before I even spoke to my recruiter. For any pools (or future pools) who smoke out there, just quit now, you'll have to quit before Boot. I shaved 3 minutes off my run time, it's a lot easier if you just switch to dipping. I'm going to start smoking again, but then I'll probably just dip *and* smoke. Slippery slope, but not one I ever regretted. If you're worried about the health side then just don't start. Easy peasy.
I was a pretty heavy smoker myself for years, I switched to the electronic cigarette (volcano) about 2 years ago, and it's honestly the best thing for it. It's not a way to quit, as you can get more nicotine from the e-cig, but it's honestly a hell of a lot better than smoking the 2000+ carbon compounds you get when you burn tobacco, and it tastes and smells a hell of a lot better.
It's an action you can take comfort in. That's the stress relief. It's the same with weapon maintenance. You can just put all of the shit aside and just focus on one task which requires little to no concentration once you've done it half a hundred times. I know this is 2 months old, but I felt I'd put that it.
Im pretty proud to say ive never put a dip in, smoked a whole cicigarette, or drank a whole beer or any alcoholic drink. I never want too either. I want to be in the Marines in infantry for a while, than come back and go to school to re-enter the Marines to be an officer. I want to make a career out of the Marines. Also btw, thanks for serving. :)
Love your videos. I had lung surgery last year. My advice is to stop smoking! When they cut through your back into your lung. ... well let's just say it Sucks! you have about a 10 percent chance of survival, and I have constant back pain. Sucks
Hey devil, I called the Marine recruitment office and they wont let me join because I have a rod and three pins in my leg. The Army will let me join them but I want to join the Marines, so i called again later and another recruiter told me all I needed was a form my doctor saying I'm ok. Your advice?
+Awesomejosh My girlfriend decided to join the Army when she read somewhere online that the USMC wouldn't take her with her ACL surgery. When I joined up I spoke to my recruiter about it and he told me that *that* was bullshit. Thankfully her Army recruiter took a good 6 months before he even tried to get her into MEPS. Now she's a poolee and couldn't be happier. All she had to do was get a checkup and note from her doctor saying she was 100% ready and able. Hope you haven't made your decision without speaking (In-person is usually the best in my experience) to a recruiter about it. Rods'n pins should be fine, I know we have a pool with the same thing. Good luck, if you're still having troubles!
days a year. but all in all i love being a marine and i couldnt imagine myself doing anything else. when you join the ranks of the marines, you join an elite brotherhood with a bond soo strong that not even god himself could even attempt to break it.
Just wondering, would gum be a viable replacement to nicotine products? If you chewed gum to calm your stress/ occupy yourself, do you think you'd have a better chance of resisting smoking?
Well in america you can be 17 and join if you're parents sign for you, but if you just go an sign up on you're own you have to be 18 and have a high school diploma or GED. I would thing in Canada that age 18 would probably be the youngest you can join unless they to will allow you're parents to sign for you.
bootcamp in 5 weeks, going infantry and my recruiters keep trying to talk me out of infantry. not going to use any form of tobacco, i like having the money lol
Hey Devildog, I don't know if you'll ever see this but I was wondering, if your on duty like deployed in Afghanistan or any foreign nation. How do you get Tobacco? Especially dip cause thats what I'd want. Do you have to get it in the mail from a family member or friend? Or do they sell it there? Its probably a dumb question but I was just wondering. Thanks and have a good day man!
Military life style will definatley get you into tobacco or at the very least, around it constantly. Went to a military academy for a few months & i've been dipping ever since. Thumbs up for "dem groomin' standerds"
I'm a huge dipper and I leave for boot camp in September. Kinda nervous how my body is going to respond to not having the nicotine. Probably won't even phase me because I'll be getting fucked up every day, haha.
***** That's not true, foreigners can join the US military to gain citizenship. I'm pretty sure you can join all branches, although it may just be the Army and Marines, those are the only cases I've heard of.
Honestly, I know you already said that you've dipped before, but dip is MUCH safer that smoking. Also, if you take care of your teeth, nothing will happen. You can't brush your lungs. Start dipping to get your nicotine. Use it to wing yourself off smoking.
Really? That sucks, I know there making huge budget cuts so that might be part of why you can join at 17 anymore. Its harder now then ever to get in now, at least thats what ive heard.
Ok I'm 14 and live in Canada so I want to enlist when I'm older now how young can I join and where will I got to join I live in Ontario and what are the branches I could do?
I smoke now, about to go to basic the only concern i have is how does it effect your physical performance? it doesnt really bother me now except that i do have shorten lung duration but i can manage but did it fuck you up when you were going out for long periods of time?
+JBoston923 it's gonna affect your physical performance in about 25 years time. quit now, it's easier now than it ever will be. and there's no good in smoking before, during, or after PT - you feel worse, and it does more harm.
My memories from my mandatory 362 in Finnish Defence Forces: Smoking and waiting. Waiting and smoking. Hauling heavy cumbersome shit around. Some more waiting and smoking. Putting up a tent. Lunch. Smoking. Waiting.

I accidentally swallowed a fat pinch of cope straight once....... Then I puked all over the school bus.

+Brandon Davis I'm a dipper/ smoker. I'm fucked haha

:) Now I get marine previews every time I watch your channel...tempting me to give it another try.
+TheDevildogGamer Hey bro, Only quitters quit. Plus the best runners I ever knew in the infantry were smokers. Shoulda went the dip route.

TheDevildogGamer Have you tried vaping? You'll still get your nicotine but will get rid of all those harsh chemicals brother!
***** You can't smoke Marijuana in the military unless you want to get kicked out.
SilencedSemtex You can sneak it but there's a high chance of you getting caught
Well we dont know its effects yet so i would wait
@@SilencedSemtex He wasn't in the military anymore when he made this video

Aw man I mean it shouldnt be that bad depending on what you were dipping, What were you dipping?
Just wondering, would gum be a viable replacement to nicotine products? If you chewed gum to calm your stress/ occupy yourself, do you think you'd have a better chance of resisting smoking?
Where would you buy cigs at SOI ? Do they like get off base for the weekends ?
I leave soon, and I really appreciate your insight on your vids. Glad I found this channel!
Did you try the Cuban cigars now that would've bean classified under your victory smoke.
Lol when I was in cadets (uk) me and a few of my mates used to smoke while running in formation, we called it: tobaccardio ;)
my recruiter was a combat engineer and recon marine for his second enlistment and he hates dip and cigarettes

nicotine calms your nerves so it does calm stress but it creates it as well kinda like an equal exchange
I don’t smoke I just dip people say it’s equally as bad for you as cigs but a can a day won’t affect you a half as much as 5 cigarettes a day will
Did you see any effects from dipping when you did do it? Please respond.
I'm in the process of enlisting right now and I'm 17. Just waiting for an eye waiver.
bootcamp in 5 weeks, going infantry and my recruiters keep trying to talk me out of infantry. not going to use any form of tobacco, i like having the money lol

The toxicity of smokeless tobacco is far less than a cigarette. I'm not saying that it doesn't have a few toxins in it, but it's not TOXIC by any means. Hell, cigarettes aren't TOXIC. They just have toxins in them. Also, you apparently don't know what punctuation is. Don't make assumptions if you don't know. *Been dipping for 4 years*
i dip. enlisting in a few months
Its loose tobbaco that i put between ur lbottom lip and gums and iit makes u spit alot and never swallow the spit
that happened to me at SOI. the rule was if the instructor was smoking or dipping, we could too. we were doing weapons maitnance and I saw other Marines with dip, so I thought fuck it. needless to say I got caught, instructor made me swallow it. I had hiccups for the rest of the day. it was horrible
