Richie Haven’s voice is phenominal, just beautiful. This song really touches the soul. Can’t believe I had never heard this before the movie Collateral. Amazing song and performance.

this used to be my dad’s favorite song he passed away a couple years ago all I remember hearing this is when he would sit me on his lap and we would just sing this song :) how I wish I could turn back the hands of time…😕
I am so very sorry, He had a great ear for music no doubt. What a sweet memory for you in his tragic loss. If possible please watch the first few minutes of Collateral to see how profound your Dad's song is. Thoughts
I’m so sorry I absolutely understand your pain I lost my dad 14 years ago. I also wish I could turn back the hands of time as well. Personally if that didn’t work I wish I had a Time Machine to bring him to the present or even visit him.
How old are you now yo? It’s tough man, time is that one thing once gone, spent, wasted, whatever, it can’t be replaced like money, possessions, just memories now yo, and whether you are aware of it now but he’s with your ancestors and if you think I’m talking shit, just shut up and listen (sorry, not meant aggressively), but listen to the winds and remember this message from some random stranger from Aus yo… 🖤✌🏽☺️
I just watched a documentary called "Living With Leopards" on Netflix. This song came on at the end. Beautiful song. Ritchie Havens is singing. How could it be anything else? God bless you, Ritchie. Rest In Peace....
Me too, guys. Loved the documentary. It was quite sad how animals live and depart from each other. But this song at the end had me mesmerized with that beautiful sunset scene so I shazamed it and now listening to everything Groove armada and this guy do
You do realize that there are other videos posted right here on RUclips of this sing right? I mean did you guys think 80k was it? There are hundreds of videos posted of this song.
Groove Armada are the most genre diverse band I know of, they managed to get some of the most talented guest vocalists on earth to feature on their records. I was lucky enough to be front row for an amazing live performance at Rockness festival in 2007, it was simply perfect. Love them.
"We can't turn back the hands of time", true, but whenever we listen to this beyond-classic masterpiece, we sure can slow them down some. Unbelievable song. This song seems like it must be so much older than it is ... real nostalgia, but it is 'new'. And it is impossible to listen to it just once. Thank you, Groove ... and RIP Richie Havens.
I saw Richie Havens the year before he died in Anchorage Alaska. What a soulful peaceful experience. I did not know that he had sang with this band. I just heard this song on Las Vegas - tv show and looked it up because I knew that voice. What a fabulous song. I also saw Richie Havens in 1980 in Huntington West Virginia. I fell in love with him then. Singing the Beatles song here comes the Sun
Even though I am 65 years old, recently this year 2024 I saw the movie Collateral for the first time and "discovered" this beautiful song Hands of Time. Since that, I can't stop listening to it.
He did Freedom with so much passion, the wind is still carrying it aloft somewhere today! From an NPR article in 2004, Santana was really, really late - "By that time, Havens had been onstage almost three hours - and still they needed more. "And I thought, 'Gosh, what am I going to do?'" Then he belted out "Freedom," and his electric ad-lib performance set the tone for the next three days. "The word 'freedom' came out of my mouth because this was our real particular freedom," he tells Cox. "We'd finally made it to above ground."
@@jonothandoeserYeah the artist formerly known as lucifer. Real shame his pride dislodged him and his position as worship leader forever. Great example huh ...
I saw Richie live for the first time in 1974,Richmond VA and full concert at the Birchmere in 2007. Also caught him a few times in Taos , NM when he would do impromptu appearances for friends there in the summer. He always gave good performances and was always high...like most of the people who were there to watch him. Listen to what you going to do about me if you havent dont already that is. Gone like so many, many talented men and women. Never to be forgotten.
Just heard this in an old rerun of "Cold Case". How have I not heard this song in the last 17 years? How have I not realized how great Richie Havens was until now? I must be living a sheltered life...gotta open my eyes and pay more attention.
The vibe of this piece sets me back so far I feel myself sinking through my chair. Haven's voice is superb, setting the tone and feel of the song while absolutely owning it.
