I've come to learn that roasted maple necks is a marketing gimmick. It's a cost savings boon for manufactures, whereas they can use higher kiln temps to drastically speed up curing time. As a result, they can get away with sourcing wood from younger trees and not have to let blanks sit stacked and stickered in a warehouse. Also, the finishing process is much simpler. I've A/B compared a lot of different guitars with different wood combinations over the decades. Roasted maple necks sit in the mix differently. To me, it sounds like the notes have less bounce and bloom.
Yeah I was wondering/going to ask what the differences between a roasted maple and a normal maple neck were! So a vid on that would be good!. I love the look of them but never used one haha. I've only every use the same type of neck on my Epis. Both gloss white so I'd like to try a non gloss neck and some different profiles. Great vid mate! As always!
@@jonos138 I have an S7 and it sounds like a strat in certain pickup positions but you are probably right it doesn't quite have that Fender Strat sound but it's a great guitar in its own right and if you put in a different set of pickups it would probably get a bit closer to that Fender sound but go for the S7 it's a great guitar with it's own sound 👍🤘
A friend of mine built a GFS (Guitar Fetish) stratocaster with a roasted Fender neck and eventually sold it to me and I really enjoy the look and sound! A Burgundy Mist Metalllic body with great quality electronics (Fender American Standard pickups he had in his parts bin). Differences I can't address but aesthetics? Beautiful!
I like dark stained necks could careless about roasting wood. Wood with no moisture is a recipe for cracking and it is essentially going to become brittle. I’ve played plenty of roasted necks, it is placebo.
If you’re making decent money and your neck cracks, you can just keep repairing it with glue. If there’s one crack every 5 years and after 50 years you have 10 cracks, it still can function
The roasted neck on my Chapman ML3 PRO is stunning. Worth every penny. Just got ML1 Hybrid Standard, last night and it's also good, but not as good as ML3 IMHO. Great channel mate. Subscribed!
I've done it and it wasn't for me. Sure it feels good. But it sounds terrible to me. The wood's cellular structure is compressed. So it also compresses the tonal frequency range. Non roasted necks sound fuller
Regarding stainless frets. I re fretted a black LP with Gold Jescar Evo fret wire. Harder than standard but not as hard as stainless. Stainless sounded quite bright and unplugged they were a bit ‘tinkly’ .
ever since i got a charvel dk24 i can't go back to regular maple... i live in new england, so im used to doing a setup every couple months... not any more! ive had it for a year and i haven't had to adjust it at all.
Questions good sir, I just got one of these MIM Strats with Roasted Maple neck, how would you suggest maintaining this neck and not ruining it? Cleaning, Lubing/Oiling, etc?
???? Watched the video, enjoyed the video... still don’t know what you’d buy the roasted neck - structural integrity unconfirmed... don’t know if there’s a tonal difference... - it’s just for the visual????
Now I “don’t” want a ml1 pro zima blue. Two ml1 pro, one red which I already have and the new blue one would make a nice backdrop 😂. Something for me think about 😊🌹
Which kind of custom shop pickups are built per default in the limited player strat series with roasted maple neck? I heard the Fat'50s Custom Shop Pickup sound and I am convinced now I need these.
Mate, have I got a video for you - ruclips.net/video/_Nu9j-Vcck4/видео.html Custom shop Fat 50s were in it and I have never had so many comments about how great a set of pickups sound. They're incredible and would highly recommend
I tried several roasted necks. Could not feel or hear any difference over my older guitars. I think it's a scam. Great sound is created by musicians not by roasted logs.
Biggest thing I've notice on a roasted neck, is they handle extreme temperatures better. The satin feel is a preference ive always had, but I've been used to Jackson/Charvel Oiled necks most of my playing life.
This wasn't a comparison, just a " I prefer roasted " with not much explanation. You don't seem too familiar with it to be honest. It's like an intro. Also it's a cheaper method, that's important to know when buying a product, it's not THE feature one should focus on...it's the overall finish. Roasted wood is a method used to speed up the natural process of the wood drying. Which takes years and years. A manufacturer could use the cheapest young wood and bake it. It also makes it more brittle. I wouldn't trust Harley Benton that much for the long term, while others may use decent wood to begin with. My point is : it is not "superior" all by itself.
Upon making this video did you see the player plus and think “d’oh” 🤪 The new player plus necks look great, they aren’t roasted, but the are rolled and all Satin

Just bought an EVH Wolfgang standard which has a roasted maple neck I’m now a convert. Fantastic guitar super quality Indonesian made under £500
Your videos are soooo good! Love watching your vids! Keep up the good work!
If you want roasted maple and rolled edges try a Sire S7 or ,T7 they are excellent 🤘
Sire are good, but don't have that fender bite/tone. If it sounded like a strat I would defo get the s7.

Roasted maple neck certainly look very nice
Roasted rolled with ss, you described a chapman pro hehe
I’d love an ML3 pro traditional. I may be making something exciting as we speak…

brittle tone and otherwise. it is just a shortcut in manufacturing. should cost less

More chapman guitars!!!!
I'm thinking of buying one of these for my classic vibe tele, how does the flat oval profile feel? Has it got a bit more chunk thank the modern C?

I have a ML1 hybrid abyss and it is awesome guitar I payed £399 from Andertons which is a steel cheers Jason
£400! That’s so cheap?

12 “ and Jumbo frets, winner.
I’ve got the player fsr in sapphire blue. The roasted maple feels amazing!
Great info. The roasted has ? Jumbo frets, think player has med jumbo. Do you notice much difference ?

That strap is really cool where did you get it mate? Thanks!
It was £25 from Amazon but seems to have increased in price. Link here : amzn.to/3sC34XY

I did. I saw the Andertons video but by the end decided I’d definitely made the right decision
