I had just ordered two pairs before watching this , a 70% off and a 50% off , which together qualified for free shipping ....... ($202 for both)
At the start of Spain's first lockdown they did a site wide 15% off , which whoever ran their website applied to the original price and not the reduced price , meaning the stuff in the outlet section was 85% off
I assumed at that price it must be rubbish , but they realized their mistake days later apparently it was just a slip up , still kicking myself that i didn't buy everyone's Christmas presents (i have weird kids they would have been happy)
One pair from their outlet i bought earlier in the year had a fault , they sent a courier to pick the defective boots up and refunded their cost after they had inspected them.
Wasn't expecting great service given the price i had paid , but they were great and would be even easier to deal with for a Spanish speaker !

There’s an entire world of goth/ industrial boots out there; it’d be awesome to see you review them, actually, since as you can see, they get pricy FAST. I know fluevogs have already been requested, but I’m sure I’m not the only person who’d be happy to give you a longer list of spooky brands to review. (I imagine these are primarily made for clubbing and general wear, so it’s also interesting to consider what would be “good” construction there-do you want a shank in shoes used for dancing? I know some styles of professional dance shoes don’t have shanks, so maybe that’s a consideration? What kind of sole is good for the abuse the shoes take, especially when it comes to the ability to fix them, either DIY or paying for it? Etc etc etc. )

Buy them used! If they are your style and you can deal with the heaviness they feel pretty solid and comfortable, they aren't worth the retail price but at least here in Europe you can get decent condition pairs starting at the equivalent of 80$ or so, and for about 100-150$ you can get them in basically new condition :)

So glad to see you finally did some New Rock boots! The entire spooky community thanks you!
I have had new rocks for years, as well as other brands of extreme platform and 'goth' boots, and the number one problem is the soles coming away from the shoe. This occurs most often on cheaply made, synthetic boots which are only ever glued onto the sole, but i have never had that problem with New Rocks. I'm disappointed to see the hollow sole and the gluing on this pair, but i have to say i have had New Rocks that have lasted 10+ years with basically constant everyday wear, and I've only stopped wearing them because I get gifted another pair by my amazing mum!
There's this whole library of knowledge, certainly in the goth community, where we all know the best extreme shoes and what brands to buy and which to avoid, and New Rocks have always been well received by everyone I've come across. They are kind of like your modern goth boot bread and butter i suppose! I know people who have had New Rocks for 20+ years and still going strong, and although they don't offer this anymore sadly, the company used to offer lifetime guarantees on all their boots so if they broke or you lost a bit of hardware they would replace free of charge which was great. Not to mention a big sign of confidence in the boots.
I'd be curious to see you cut apart some other spooky brands of boots, especially Demonia boots, Buffalo boots, maybe some amazing old Swear boots (though I will cry when you cut them up because they are so rare now!) and I'm very curious to see what kind of flimsy cardboard those Killstar ones are made of lol! Demonias come in some incredible and outlandish styles - even more so than New Rock - but they are all synthetic and do not last nearly as long. However I must say from experience they hold up pretty well in the sole-peeling-off department which is great, and they don't cost the earth either so I suppose its an even trade.
Either way, love your videos- they are so satisfying! And I would love to see you cut apart a bunch of stuff on the stranger side of things.

I've got probably 6 pairs of NewRocks. They changed with time quite a bit. My first pair is about 20yo (short ankle boots), still going strong though I abused them badly and a lot. Even the nubuck uppers held up nicely and the sole is still solidly on.
A newer pair of almost kneehigh boots has not been so good - had to reglue the sole twice already, but other then that - really comfortable. The rest I don't wear so often, so can't say anything about durability.

I have also got a more recent pair in a more standard style that have done thousands of miles with me on my motorcycle and apart from some fading of the colour, are still going strong.
However, when I went to the New Rock store earlier this year, I was saddened that the quality of the boots no longer matches what it used to be, just trying them on in the store you could tell the materials were not as good as the older models and the construction was flimsier. I have had 4 pairs since the late 1990s. One pair I sold because I just never wore them. The other three I still have and have never had a single issue with any of them. I don’t remember the exact ages of them all but even the newest pair is at least 10 yrs old. I wonder if they used to be constructed differently and maybe they have cut corners over the years? Also, I’ve never paid above $150 for a pair either - even my Neptunos.
Cool video tho and I’m glad to see what’s inside the new ones.
I think the reason for having so many air pockets in the soles is so the boot can actually flex when you walk. Other platforms, like shitty Demonias, have no give, so you wear them like a month and the sole rips off. And those are selling for over $100 a pair themselves. THAT is insanity.
As far as “goth boots” go, I own One or more pairs of Terry de Havilland, original Transmuters, 2nd gen Transmuters, Magic Shoe Co, Pennangalan, and New Rocks - in addition to all my Docs. :)

its a shame we dont have pennangalan/magic shoes/fantasy shoes and havilland around anymore, the quality of shoes has plummeted recently and i honestly have no idea where you could even buy high quality tall platforms anymore. also rip to demonia for massively ripping off loads of pennangalan's designs :/

I’ve got my first pair for 28 years. Wearing them almost everyday. The sole, the leather and everything else stayed sturdy. I’ve given them away last year because the style is not me anymore. It were almost the same as the ones you showed only without the flames and the the boots ended higher. I’ve heard the quality of new rock was far better at the time I bought those boots. I’ve gotten myself 3 more pairs of new rock and they are still going strong.

I have had many of these boots, including the model you ripped apart in the review which were my favourite and longest lasting pair. They are more for image than practicality (but it can be quite handy having so much heft on your feet if you find yourself in certain situations, like concerts, festivals or "self defence"). Still, great boots and surprisingly comfortable, if you get a good fit. Some of the wear issues I had were the metal attachments breaking both at the front and the heel due to impact with various things, the flame stitching coming loose and even the heal counter coming loose on one pair. I also had the the sole split on another pair which rendered the boot almost unusable as the toe section would flop about, but being a cheap Goth living in London I continued to wear the boot for several months until I could afford an upgrade.

@@user89076 For sure. What I'm getting at is that these boots are based on a design that evokes tough sturdy boots built to stand up to tough conditions - but in fact they're likely to quickly come apart under these conditions given the cemented construction.
Kind of like how costume jewelry is made to evoke the look of expensive jewelry, but is in fact cheaply made
That's not to judge, I can see how a person might buy these to compliment a look, but I think there's some logic to the parallel I'm drawing. And it would be nice if they went the extra foot and did a couple simple things to make them more durable to match the look.

But seriously though the thing is that rose anvil has said in several videos he does'nt really like dr martens sence they have gone down the route of cutting quality but keeping the same price so you basicly just get the brand. This means a dr marten ad is not going to be very succesfull on this channel sence ppl here knows you can get a much higher quality boot for the same money if you buy another brand.
And of course the irony of him roasting the dr martens and then his videos gets ads that go "buy dr martens, they be good for ya"
Obviuosly he can't shoes which ads are shown on the video, but you know: Irony

    • @res1dentcyn1c
      @res1dentcyn1c 4 года назад +3

@Marc Carran the joke has nothing to do with ad tracking, it’s about how it’s ironic that there’s a Dr Marten’s boot ad for a video on a channel that is pretty heavily anti Docs. And it is an inside joke because people who haven’t watched many of Wes’s videos won’t get it, therefore it’s an inside joke.

In terms for the Goth style plus longevity, these are the best for Goths.
A lot of us are not necessarily looking for the most bulletproof, weatherproof or high quality boot/shoe to fit our creativity and expressions, just enough to where it looks cool to our eyes, is comfortable or not uncomfortable, but also isn't a dirt cheap quality of a shoe, and last long enough to fit into our daily lives which New Rock has done so far for all the Goths and just about anyone else who enjoys the style and longevity of New Rock unlike some other brands. (Looking at you Demonia.)

For reference, mine had Velcro straps, before the zipper option was available.
I ended up giving them to a friend's son when he was a punk rock teen before I moved to Japan 8 years ago... And bought a new pair over here and still wearing them.
Two pairs of boots for almost 20 years. Still hiking, motorcycling and being dumb but the boots just don't die.

It's nice to see they've changed one thing.
The metal embellishments used to be attached by rods which fed into the rubber, and after a few years, one of the rods was bound to fail/shear and you'd have to remove that bit of metal.
Replacing the rods with screws seems a no-brainer for anyone who's had this issue in the past.

Felt compelled to say I bought a pair of New Rocks (taller and heavier than these) in 1999 and wore them for 8ish years basically every weekend to shows, trips to the city, stomped around Philly and New York. They were a mix of black matte looking leather and shiny black patent leather. They are still in great shape though my style has changed and I only wear them a couple times a year now. The toes and inner heels are scuffed but to be expected. I wore the hell out of those boots The patent leather still looks perfect. Only problem is mine had a thin metal accent that wrapped around the sides and underneath of the heel that was made of one solid piece of thin metal. Those broke early on and I removed it. But you couldn’t tell anything was missing. Loved the look and was WAY MORE comfortable than the Doc Martens everyone gets hung up on. Think I paid close to $300 back in the day. They were worth it for a unique boot than never failed to get looks and compliments.

"Hole in the sole" is a statement in hi-end Dirk Bikkembergs boots. Not sure if he "Invented it" but it is quite famous design.

I bought a pair of these in the 90s. Still have them in a box somewhere. I broke the cheap metal front brackets by kicking things. Loved the attention they got though.

I REALLY wanted to hear "so I wore these at my shop for a month" for some reason.

In the metal head community, we had a term for the guys who would wear these boots. If I’m not mistaken, that term was “poser”. You did the world a service by cutting these in half. 🤘

I bought a pair about 23 years ago, don't really wear them much anymore but after all that time they still look pretty new and are still really comfortable. Maybe the production quality has gone down a bit over the years as I noticed the screws you took out looked like home depot deck screws or something similar while the ones in mine from back in the day were branded as fire hardened steel and look a hell of a lot nicer as does the plating that was screwed into the rubber. Edit: I think I paid around $240 for mine and had to wait like a month for them to first be made after I ordered them and then shipped to the states.
