I know exactly how he feels, Im From Lake Charles and lived there almost my whole life, I came to a point where I got tired of having to evacuate and Hurricane Rita was my last Hurricane, Louisiana as a state has its pros and cons, but I know that they cons outweigh the pros, all of my family is still there and I wish that they could see what I seen but, I know that they are too comfortable there, I go there once a year to visit and the city is still messed up from the back to back hurricanes of Laura and Delta, leaving Louisiana was the best decision that I ever made, I do miss home but life is a whole lot better here in California, if you are someone who's reading this and is thinking about moving away go for it, don't be scared of change, you can do it, peace, love, and blessings from San Diego California✌🏾

I was in Nola about 3 years after Katrina and it still hadn't rebuilt the 9th ward. I remember we toured the Brad Pitt Homes. They were sitting on tall stilts and you had to walk up 40 steps to get to the house. I said NO WAY.

I live in Lafayette, work in LC and have numerous family in Lafourche. ALL of us want to leave, but we are also tied down due to work, children, grandchildren etc. Our culture is as special as any in the world. Just saying " I'm leaving" isn't that simple. Totally respect this man. But sure can believe him when he says there may not Be a 3rd x

Major home damage and weeks without electricity or water and cooking diners on the Weller grill. Big fun right?! Had enough, put up a "For Sale" sign and kissed the Gulf Coast goodbye forever. I live in Baton Rouge and we got it pretty bad, mostly tree damage in homes and tearing up the electrical poles and lines. The heat is absolutely unbearable without air conditioning. I resorted to sleeping in my car so I could have A/C for a few hours. We got nothing as bad as La Place and other coastal areas, but I can tell you I'm sick of these storms every year. They are getting worse strength wise and more frequent. Louisiana has been hit several years in a row with Cat 3 and 4 hurricanes from coast to coast. I love Louisiana, the people, food and culture, but I've been talking to my family and we are ready to get the heck out of the state and go somewhere else. Yes, I know every place has challenges. I just want to go somewhere where we don't have to worry as much, if there is such a place.

I think in the long run it'd be a whole lot cheaper to build houses that can stand these weather conditions better, not to mention the cost of human life. I just wonder if there'd even be the time to overhaul all that structure when you get storms like this every single year. You could start with some of the worse off parishes I guess? Everything there needs to be rebuilt anyways because it's just straight up uninhabitable there. If you gotta rebuild the whole parish, might as well rebuild it right. I don't think there's a single building we can build to guarantee that extreme weather won't bring suffering, but while we work on reducing extreme weather, we can at least give people a better chance at weathering things out.

Why do they not change the design of homes to minimize damage in high winds / storm prone areas - gabled roofs catch the wind - the worst option for housing in these areas - one style of buildings that can take the high winds are dome homes.

BUILD BACK SMARTER!!! There is a 120-year-old, two-story home on the Texas coast, still standing beautifully today because it had special hurricane proof features!!! If you take the extra precautions, your insurance will even be cheaper and your house and your property will be secure!!!!! Fortify your roofs!!! Flood proof your first level!!! BUILT BACK SMARTER!!!! Remove large trees that can fall on your home!!! Study to see what you can do for your home!!

25 to 30 years ago I lived in the New Orleans metro area. During my life in Louisiana, La Place was flooded twice with 3 to 5 feet of water, and neither of those floods was the result of a hurricane. Like many areas of the country, the poor and middle class need to live in areas that are affordable to them, like La Place, LA. Areas closer to work that are better isolated from natural disasters are not affordable to the poor and middle class. I'm 70 years old, a retired big company CEO, and my experience is that our government, both Democrat and Republican, has failed the poor and middle class. The current administration (Biden), with its emphasis on critical race theory, has done nothing but create a huge divide in our country, and is doing everything in its power to destroy the poor and middle class!

My parents home was built in the late 60s & the walls and floors are concrete! If you fall and hit your head on the floor or wall you can trust & believe a headache is on it's way.
Nowadays these homes are built outta of only wood and drywall which has proven to be a catastrophe. I thought many states would've learned this lesson by now but they haven't and they are still building complete neighborhoods within 3-4 weeks. Any home built that quickly isn't a safe home especially if you live in the path of hurricanes.

  • @orangeziggy599

In Louisiana, there are hurricane building codes that new buildings must follow and then must be inspected/approved of. More sturdy fittings to anchor against the winds. But these won't always prevent destruction.

Seems that Southern Louisiana is no longer livable. This must be exhausting rebuilding your life several times in a lifetime. It might not be popular opinion, but I think the southern portion of the state should be evacuated permanently and given back to nature. I mean, this is just insane. The world cannot continue to come to your rescue over and over again for a place that will always be hit hard by hurricanes.
