@@shaunboydmadethis I was thinking something similar but put the glass in under the maple slats. It would be a glass bottom coffee table. (Removable of course for cleaning)
Yes, at first I though resin was going to be used to fill in the gaps. Then say the gaps were going to be left there. So, though nice thick glass that wont break too easily. Though maybe want to use some kind of rubber spacer between the wood and class so any condensation through the glass will not get to the wood. I will also say I was a bit concerned with its strength. After helping lost of friends move over the years, and knowing how furniture can take a lot of stress for all those crazy things we all may do it it. So, maybe some lateral tube for cross support. It does not nessacayvneed to go all the way down to the bottom or half way. But, someway to give it more strength and support besides the disks/pegs in the joints.

Simple..?? That’s a piece of art..!! Looks amazing, and a custom glass top would solve functionality issues and highlight the contrasting finish. Awesome skills Shaun. Love it.
I was going to say all it needs now is a glass top but figured I should check to see if it's already been mentioned, and it has. What the heck… Shaun, great looking table. All it needs now is a glass top.
C'mon Shon. I miss Yourtube videos. Without a single doubt, the best of them all, witty and wacky and brilliant and inspirational and surely, the most welcoming. Keep 'er lit Bro!
It looks awesome. One of the best a scrap wood projects I've seen thus far. Keep up the great work. The table is different and is definitely an art piece.
The NBA Jam reference got me! Those bevels are so clean; your use of geometry is one of the best parts about your style. The worst part of your videos is knowing they're going to eventually be over.
Shuan, this bye far one of the coolest pieces of furniture I've seen created on RUclips!!!! Your personality along with the creation of the piece complement each other fantastically!!! So glad I came across your channel. Until next time God bless, and Dirty Jersey out!!!!
very beautiful peace of woodwork! i love the contrast in color and density, heavy on the outside, light on the inside. I wonder what it would look like made out of plywood, with the inside strips showing the pattern. might look good.
I really like the design of this. You could include a rebate (rabbet) and recessed the slats deeper for a glass panel across the top if that was an issue - but its really unique as it is.
Thanks man! I don't have anything about my finishing process, but this was my first time using Maker Brand Simple Finish. It was...simple. And looks great too.
I saw this on their advertisement it came out awesome. Will attempt to make one but with only a router. Great job Greg!!!!! Oh and your carpenter guy was okay as well. Lol. Hahahahaha . Just watched your carpenter guy drop a cup through the opening!!!! Hilarious!!!
Shaun, that's a fantastic coffee table. Loved the keep you stressed idea! And watching this video reminded me of my favorite Jack Daniels song, The Bevel Went Down to Georgia.
This is a waning to all friends that ask a carpenter to make something as a favor. You have no say in the design. And be prepared to be trolled. SB FTW 😂
The Jetsons would have loved the design. Excellent work I really dig the use of what was on hand. I've been building simple little tea light candle holders from scrap tid bits - Figured maple, cherry, elm, black walnut etc... Like to see what your noggin comes up with on what's based off a 1.5" hole...
You might add glass to fill the large gaps. This design will never be too practical, but at least a mug won't fall through. Enjoyed your video very much!
Considering my kids could spill a drink in the middle of our regular coffee table and it still end up on the floor, I dont see a problem with your stressful coffee table. 😂
I know I’m late to the game, but throughout the whole build I was waiting for a glass top to be put on it. That would solve the practicality issue while preserving the artistic aspect. Great work, the bevels in the details would be a great sticker/T-shirt/hat
I thought the table was very cool. Your're correct that it's inpractible to set mugs/glasses, etc. Perhaps an added piece of maple in between. Not sure what but someting to allow for liquid vessels to sit without falling through. A taller version of this table would be cool in a foyer or behind a sofa.
Sean, I've only recently stumbled upon your channel and your designs and videos are awesome. I love this table. Reminds me of Charlie Sheen's in Wall Street that Martin Sheen dropped his plate through. Looking forward to more of your videos.
