      @@Cordiallymichemarie Great question! Ask your provider if Pyridium is safe for you to use? It can be purchased over the counter under the product name AZO. It is very helpful with the pain and discomfort associated with a UTI. Also, drinking plenty of fluids helps dilute the bacteria and flush them out of your system faster.

      Does U.T.I causes Skin problem during pregnancy?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад

      @@vivienjannavalenzuela9330 Thanks for the question. UTIs do not usually cause skin problems during pregnancy. Instead, pregnancy can induce a variety of skin conditions including stretch marks, mask of pregnancy, linea nigra, and acne. These are usually caused by the hormones. PUPPPs is an itchy rash that usually happens towards the end of your pregnancy but must be diagnosed in person by a healthcare provider. There are a few other rarer skin conditions as well. If you were prescribed a medication for your UTI and you developed a skin condition, you need to contact your healthcare provider immediately. You may be having an allergic reaction to the medication. If you are unable to reach your provider, you should go to the nearest hospital to be checked out if you believe this is an allergic reaction.

      Hi how are you doing? I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I had my prenatal visit on Monday 2/13/23 I was all ready felling with the constant to pee a lot and pain and like you know in every visit they test supostably for what ever is in the urine because they always ask for a urine example at ever prenatal visit and everything was ok so on Tuesday morning I was with pain Thursday 2/16/23 I had a lot of pain that I went to see a urgent care clinic and their they test my urine and it came out positive for UTI so I call my doctor and I told the receptionist about what was going on I told her that I had a UTI infection and that they prescribed me at the urgent care macaroni 100mg and I told the receptionist that the doctor from urgent care told me to let my obgy doctor what was going on. So I let the receptionist know that I was having pain and spotting and if I could get seen by the doctor for ultrasound to check everything is ok and the receptionist told me ho no we do not need to see you for a ultrasound neither for a UTI I was shok like what why?? So then I told her that if it was fine to take the antibiotics that the urgent care doctor prescribe and she's like I'll let your obgy doctor assistant to ask the doctor about tje antibiotics and it took 4 hour for the doctor assistant to contact me she told me that the doctor change the macrobid to Cefradoxil 500mg 1 capsule every 12 hours. And honestly I was expecting for the receptionist and for the assistance lady to tell me we'll come over so we can check you but no they didn't so I ended up in the hospital because I was feeling so bad with nausea and lot of pain they checked me and they said that I was having mild contractions so they wanted to check that it wasn't so to preterm labor so they checked with a swab to see if their was no delivery and thanks God it came out negative and they also told me that their was blood in my urine as well so they told me that the contractions were do to the UTI infection so they monitor my baby and baby's heart and movements were ok so I changed obgy doctor that same day hope to have an appointment with the new obgy doctor and pray to God that he takes good care. So right Now I'm still in some pain in my left side tummy abdomen and still with little contraction and little bit of spotting

    D-mannose for prevention. Cranberry has NOT been disproven but drinking a ton of sugar will not help. The isolated molecule found in cranberry that helps is D-mannose. Essentially it makes the lining of the bladder and urethra more slippery so bacterial adhesion becomes difficult. Doesn’t work for everyone but can be good preventative. Also pee before and after sex.

    Hello I am 40 weeks pregnant and have UTI over 2 month. I was given medication that didn't help. I did all the right things. Drink alot of water etc. I did a urine culture it came back saying their is no bacteria that is causing the UTI. Everything was negative except the UTI bt no specific bacteria. I am now on Augmentin and praying that it helps. I would really want to know if this will affect my baby by causing any birth defects. I am so sad right now.

      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад

      Thanks for asking. I am so sorry you feel sad. You are doing the best thing for your baby by treating your UTI. Taking an antibiotic at 40 weeks should not cause birth defects. Birth defects usually develop in the first trimester. Its really important for you and baby that you remain as healthy as possible. Taking antibiotics is part of that. Try to enjoy these last few days of your pregnancy. You will be meeting your baby soon! However, it is ok to be sad. I'm sure this has been scary and overwhelming. Take care of yourself.

    Hello Doctor..
    I am 8 weeks pregnant and I did urine and urine culture tests. It turned out that I have (UTI) caused by bacteria.. I was shocked because I had no symptoms at all.. the doctor prescriped antibiotic “Nitrofurantoin” for 7 days and recommend drinking plenty of water.. I have 2 questions:
    1- What if it turned positive again after the medication? Really worried about my baby.
    2- I had no symptoms, and still I don’t.. how is that possible? Does it mean it’s not risky?
    Thank you so much

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for asking! If you take the medication as prescribed, I doubt it will turn positive again right away. If you have a UTI without symptoms, it could be that the urine was contaminated. Therefore, it's sometimes prudent to recheck the urine sample to confirm. Good luck!

    Ok. I’ve had a UTI my whole pregnancy. I’m like 30 weeks. I got the medicine under 20 weeks but I was scared to take the meds. But I just finished a second set of meds( did not take the first prescription ) but I’m still dealing with a yeast infection. 🤦🏾‍♀️ it’s itchy, I can’t empty my bladder all the time and my vulva is swollen.
    I don’t like doctors I’ve missed mostly all my appointments. I’m 30 weeks and only been to 4 appointments. Didn’t do the glucose test of anything. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I just don’t know.

      Daija, Just an FYI, I have become a doctor since posting this video years ago. Please. please, please follow the instructions when taking medications for a yeast infection. The medication initially kills off the weak bacteria, leaving only the strong bacteria which usually takes more time to kill off. So, if you stop taking the medication halfway then all that is left is the strong bacteria which comes back with a vengeance and then becomes harder and harder to get rid of. You're just making it harder to get rid of the UTI by not following your doctors recommendations and taking all prescriptions. Please. please, please go see you provider as soon as possible and be honest about not taking the 1st prescription. I am sending you lots of love and light. Best wishes.

    I am 37 weeks pregnant and having uti. My doc gave me 2 weeks treatment and it still not going away. She said I still have a little trace and she cannot give me anymore medication. She told me to drink enough water to get rid of the balance. I am so stressed out. I keep myself as clean as possible I am not even having sex. Why do I have this Stubborn UTI? My discharge is normal, I have no symptoms. I am worried if it will affect my baby😭

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for asking! I am sorry to hear this is happening. Stubborn UTIs can happen. Sometimes UTIs hang around because a different antibiotic needed to be used. That is not your providers fault - providers start with the antibiotic that works the best for most people. They can't just start with the strongest one on the market because this can cause antibiotic resistance. When a women is 37 weeks pregnant, the baby puts pressure on the bladder making it hard for you to completely empty it when you use the bathroom. This can lead to a UTI hanging on. Your provider is right. Drink lots and lots of fluids, including 100% real cranberry juice (unless you have diabetes or another medical condition that you should limit sugar). UTIs do not affect our babies unless the infection enters your bloodstream. Monitor your temperature, look for signs of illness and lower back or side pain. If you have any of these, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Also, watch out for a change in your discharge including change in color, smell, or bleeding. If you see these things, contact your provider. Finally, make sure your baby continues to move the way you normally feel the baby move. If you think the baby is moving normally, contact your healthcare provider. Follow the other tips in the video and I think you will do well. Over the next few weeks if you are fine, just remember to ask your provider to check your urine for infection after birth to see if the UTI has completely resolved. Good Luck!

      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the question. I personally have seen Macrobid used hundreds of times and never seen a bad effect. It's a very safe and very effective medication for treating a UTI. Fosfomycin is a very effective drug that can be used to treat a UTI however we don't use it that often. This is usually reserved for treatment resistant infections where other antibiotics have not been helpful. If you are having recurrent UTIs, I would suggest the Fosfomycin. Otherwise, I recommend the Macrobid.

    Hi mam’ 🌸 is Austell-Ciprofloxacin a harmful antibiotic during early pregnancy before missed period ?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад

      Thanks for asking. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. There are some risks of taking these during the first trimester. You need to take a pregnancy test AND go back to your provider to evaluate if another antibiotic can be used. I cannot stress this enough, if you were prescribed an antibiotic for a UTI, you need to treat the UTI. Untreated you can become septic and have a miscarriage. However, there may be other antibiotics that can be used.

    Hi Doc. I am on my way to 18th week pregnancy to my second baby. I have been experiencing UTI before marriage. In fact, I failed to bring my first born to life due to preterm delivery because of this infection. Now that I'm conceiving again, I am really worried about the effects of my recurrent uti especially this time of my pregnancy. Previously, I was asked by my OB to get a urine culture and a bacteria named Staphylococcus intermidius was identified. Also the Alantibiotics which were safe for pregnant, I was found to be resistant. Instead my OB prescribed me with fosfomycin but I feel that its not getting any better. Can you advice me of whats best thing to deal with this? I can't stop worrying. Thanks for your response.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад +6

      Thanks for asking. I am sorry to hear this is happening. The first thing is to get rid of your UTI. Fosfomycin is safe for pregnancy. Make sure you complete the entire prescription and do not stop when you feel better because that can make the infection come back and be antibiotic resistant. Also, for people who have antibiotic resistant infections, its important to take the antibiotics exactly as prescribed. This means if it's every 8 hours, you should set an alarm for every 8 hours to take as prescribed. Do not estimate. Second, many antibiotic resistant infections are best treated by taking the antibiotics for longer than you traditionally would, for example, 2 weeks vs 7 days. Also, adding a second antibiotic may be helpful. I think you should ask your provider to refer you to a urologist which is a provider who can check out your urinary system to see why you may be getting recurrent UTIs.
      For prevention, use all the tips found in the video. For you, I would add washing your hands prior to using the bathroom as well as after. Staphylococcus intermedius is usually found in animals including cats, dogs, cows, horses, ect. It's possible you are touching a surface where the bacteria was located and then transferring it inadvertently. If you have domestic animals like dogs or cats, keep your bathroom door closed or your toliet paper out of reach because it may simply have been they nosed the toliet paper and it transferred to you. I am not advocating getting rid of your animals. Animals are extremely beneficial to humans but this is a simple way to ensure that you don't get exposed to the bacteria again. Good luck!

    Hello Mam, I am 37 weeks and 3 days pregnant, yesterday I went hospital for my routine checkup, Everything was good but my baby's weight is about 2.6 kg something, me and family are worrying about that..kindly ans me is this weight is ok or low??

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад

      Thanks for the question. 2.6kg may sound low but it sounds good to me, especially if your healthcare provider says everything is good. Usually weight is determined by ultrasound. Ultrasound can be off by up to .5kg in either direction, more or less weight. That means your baby could be bigger or smaller than that weight but in my experience they are usually bigger. Additionally, babies will grow on average .5kg per week in the last month of your pregnancy. If you go until 40 weeks, your baby may gain up to 1.5kg putting the baby at 4.1kg. Finally, smaller moms tend to have smaller babies. I think your baby is a good size for your healthy pregnancy.

    I always try to self diagnose myself before going in to the doctor so I can give them an idea of what I think I have. So I am having contractions while urinating and needing to pee every 5 minutes. The only thing that helps is sitting on a heating pad. I went to my doctors yesterday and she assumed it was placenta previa because I had light spotting. (I am at risk for it) but I still have no relief. Is there anything we can do from home to ease the symptoms or treat it? Also is sitting on a heating pad safe for the baby? Because I know they say no hot tubs so I keep getting worried everytime I do it but I also have guests sleeping over and I’m extremely uncomfortable like 24/7

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад

      Thanks for asking! Can you tell me how far along you are/how many weeks pregnant? Have they tested you for a UTI and it was negative? Did they do an ultrasound regarding the placenta previa? So let's talk heating pad - you want to use the heating pad at a setting that is below 100 degrees F. This is safer for your baby. Do not use it for longer than 10-15 minutes and probably 4-5 times per day but you need to check with your provider for sure in case they have a different recommendation based on placenta previa and your pregnancy. Some potential sources of comfort could be a bladder program where you urinate at regular intervals and some pain relief options like Azo and Tylenol but the answers to your questions will provide some better insight.

    • @SarahdayZ

      @@TheMaternityMentor I am 15 weeks and yes the did an ultrasound and an internal ultrasound but the specialist wasn’t exactly communicating with me so I have no idea if she anything worth worrying about or not? For me I just wanted to hear the heartbeat and I did. It gave me slight peace of mind but I have tried to contact my doctor and she has not answered yet. I think they may still be waiting to results. I have had tiny blood clots a couple times today and some other discharge that was thick

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад +1

      @@SarahdayZ It's very important for you to contact your doctor to determine if you have any type of placenta previa. Placenta previa is a condition that needs to be managed carefully. If you are having uterine contractions while urinating and you are starting to see blood, that is concerning. Clots, even tiny ones, shouldn't be ignored. Please understand these are signs that require caution but could be benign. You need to make sure you're doctor has tested you for a UTI. If not that needs to be done as soon as possible. I would also call your doctor about the clots and the discharge to request advice. If the bleeding or clots gets worse, call your doctor immediately or go to the hospital to get checked out. Finally, stop using the heating pad until talking to your doctor. Heat increases blood flow and may be contributing to the problem. With more details, its really important you get those ultrasound results. Tylenol may be safer for pain relief right now.

    Hi there! I’m 13 weeks pregnant and 4 days. I’ve been with a UTI for a month now. My doc prescribed me nitrofurintoine did another test and came positive again so we repeated the treatment with the same antibiotic. Did the test again and it was positive, my doctor told me it is c. Koseri and prescribed me cipro for 7 days. I just finished the treatment a day ago and symptoms are still here. I have a lot of burning feeling when I pee and I go very frequently.
    After reading about the kind of bacteria I’m freaking out, and it’s giving me anxiety… I have an appointment to repeat the urine culture but I’m freaking out… even if the antibiotic is not stopping the infection I hope if helps to not get or something worst 🙏🏻

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад +1

      I can completely understand why you are so anxious! It sounds like there may be a couple things going on. First, I would ask for a referral to a urologist. You want a specialist in the urinary system to review what is going on. They may not be able to do a lot because you are pregnant but better to have experts join the team. Second, you may require IV treatment in a hospital with more than 1 antibiotic being used. This is going to be a risk vs benefit thing.
      Make sure you are following all the tips in the video. Wear cotton underwear at all times. Wipe from front to back when using the bathroom. Drink lots of fluids so that you are urinating frequently. Don't hold your pee. Go when you need to go. Pee right after sex and then take a shower. Drink real 100% natural cranberry juice. These will all only help the situation. They will NOT take away the infection but once it is gone, they will hopefully prevent a reoccurrence. Good luck!

      Thanks for the question! Unfortunately some women have more UTIs during pregnancy than others. It can happen for a variety of reasons. It could be that you have a very short urethra making it easier for bacteria to enter. It could be the baby is positioned in a way that makes emptying your bladder difficult. When the urine sits inside too long, we develop a UTI. It could also be that the bacteria isn't being killed by the antibiotic because it is resistant. I would ask your healthcare provider to refer you to a urologist. These are doctors who specialize in the urinary system. They may be able to evaluate you further to determine why you are having so many infections. They may also recommend that you go on an antibiotic for a longer period of time than the standard course to ensure the bacteria is killed.

      Thanks for asking! The fosfomycin is safe for use during the first trimester when benefits outweigh risks. It's an excellent choice for treating a UTI. Hello .Thank you for all .l'm 24 weeks pregnant. Last time l went to hospital with left side back pain.l got oral antibiotics and a lot of liquid as well as ozone therapy. After a week l have right side back pain.The last urine test was clean. What could l do now .l got antibiotics 10 days.after a week accepting them again may cause overdose or not? According to ultrasound my baby is 300 gr heavier than normal?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for asking! Taking a second round of antibiotics will not cause overdose. This is often required for a severe infection or an antibiotic resistant infection. As for your baby being heavier, antibiotics and UTIs do not usually cause this. It may just be right now and later on in the pregnancy, the baby's weight will adjust back to normal. Continue to drink lots of water which will help clean your kidneys out and hopefully help avoid another UTI.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад

      Thanks for the question! It's always recommended to go and see your doctor when you are cramping during pregnancy. Unfortunately, I am aware of the Covid situation making seeking treatment complicated in many parts of the world. Sometimes women will have cramping because they are dehydrated which can also contribute to getting a UTI. You should seek medical care immediately if the cramping gets worse, if you start bleeding or leaking, if your baby stops moving, or if you develop fever or other symptoms of infection. Keep yourself hydrated and use all the tips in the video. If you can call your doctor and speak to them over the phone, I think that is best. Good luck!

    If you get uti during pregnancy is there a chance to affect your baby when born?ty❤

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for asking. UTIs don't affect babies but they affect your pregnancy which can affect your baby. Any infection increases your risk of preterm labor. Preterm labor can affect your baby because it can affect lung development and gut health to name a few effects. It's important to treat UTIs to prevent this. Additionally, untreated UTIs can lead to sepsis in a mother. Sepsis is a blood infection and that can be dangerous for your baby because of the effects it has on you. @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад +1

      @@marymauya9207 Thanks for asking. Fungus is much harder to treat when you are pregnant. The good news is that you are 37 weeks pregnant. Your baby should be fine and once you deliver, your doctor can treat the fungus. Most fungal medications are safe for breastfeeding. In the meantime to protect your baby, watch for signs of labor. If you see any leaking or bleeding, call your doctor. If the baby stops moving the way you expect baby to move or stops moving altogether call your doctor. A fungal infection at this point in your pregnancy will increase the risk of you going into labor before your due date. Once your baby is born, the doctors will check your baby to make sure the baby is ok. If the fungus is a yeast infection, these are very common and are harmless to babies. Please check out our video on this subject.

      @TheMaternityMentor  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the question! E.coli is a very common cause of UTIs. It is often found in and around the rectum as well as in feces. Because our rectum is so close to the urethra and vagina, if we are not careful when we wipe after using the bathroom, we can get an UTI caused by E.Coli. Make sure when you are using the bathroom, you wipe from front to back, or from the vagina down to your bottom. Never the other way around. Having E.coli and/or yeast in your urine should not affect future pregnancies. It is absolutely curable. make sure you take the antibiotics prescribed by your healthcare provider.

    Can UTI cause bleeding in pregnancy? I started spotting on and off after sex at 10weeks. I went to the hospital they said possible UTI but baby seemed fine. I won’t get a scan for another two days so 10days after it began. We haven’t had sex still but bleeding has continued. UTI won’t be confirmed till my scan either. I notice slight sting in my vagina lasting only a second sometimes like there a cut or irritation inside. I haven’t had any abdomen pain out of the ordinary

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад +1

      I'm sorry to hear this is happening. It sounds very scary. It's possible it’s just slight vaginal tearing that caused the drops. The vaginal tissue gets very thin during pregnancy and can tear easily. UTIs can also cause bleeding so you need to monitor the bleeding carefully. If they are treating you for your infection, make sure to take all the medication as prescribed. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

    Hi I’m 5 weeks pregnant and went to the er yesterday due to spotting and whenever they checked my urine it came up that I have a uti so they prescribed me cephalexin 250 mg (2 pills ) 4x a day and they also did a vaginal ultrasound and baby is fine but since I left the er the bleeding has gotten brighter red and I’ve also felt light cramping in my lower abdomen/lower back I called the er to see if I should go in and they said It sounds like uti symptoms and i should be fine then hung up but im still worried because the spotting is turning darker red each time but not heavy like period. Is the bleeding due to the uti infection or could I be miscarrying?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад

      Thanks for asking. I'm sorry to hear this is happening. Bleeding can be very stressful. The bleeding could be caused by the UTI but it can also be caused by a miscarriage. You should continue to take the antibiotics to treat the UTI and reach out to your personal healthcare provider so they can examine you. The UTI can cause uterine contractions which can irritate the placenta causing the bleeding. However over time this can cause the placenta to fail. Call you healthcare provider and get checked out. Sending you love and light and healing thoughts!

      Thanks for asking! Cefuroxime is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat UTI's because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. Feel better!

      Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. UTIs can cause preterm birth and miscarriage so it's very important to treat them properly. Cephalexin is a good medication for this. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed. Don't stop when you are feeling better because the infection can come back worse. Good luck!

    I have something to ask .my partner is pregnant for almost 3months and she's suffering UTI . she's in high fever. what would I do in order to relieve UTI?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад

      Thanks for asking! If she has a high fever she needs to be taken to the hospital. Her UTI has most likely turned into pyelonephritis or a kidney infection. She needs strong antibiotics. If she does not get the proper treatment, it could turn into a blood infection called sepsis. I am sending her love and light and healing thoughts.

    Hi, I am 10 weeks pregnant. And have pus cells around 12-14. No symptoms other than itching. Is it necessary to take antibiotics? My family doctor prescribed cephalexin, whereas doctor here in my city is saying that no need to take medicine. I am confused. Because I trust my family doctor more.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад

      Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy. I can understand your concern and confusion. I would recommend you have your urine retested. It's possible there was some kind of contamination. If the urine continues to test with pus cells, I would consider taking the medication. If they are absent, then you are good to go. Also, the itching makes me concerned more about yeast which cannot be treated with cephalexin. Your healthcare provider should swab your vagina and test it for yeast or other bacteria. Good luck!

      Thanks for asking! Metronidazole is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. There are no specific risks that I am aware of. Metronidazole is commonly used during pregnancy with good results. BV left untreated can cause preterm birth and miscarriage so it's important to treat it as soon as possible. Hi, I have a UTI and recently had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic - co-trimoxazole for 3 days for the UTI saying only this particular antibiotic is effective on the bacteria . Online research showed that taking this antibiotic is not recommended for upto 3 months before conceiving. Is it ok to take it if I am trying to conceive?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for asking! I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. A systematic review of co-trimoxazole showed a slight increased chance of birth defects when taken early in pregnancy. However, many of the defects were neural tube which an be caused by lack of folic acid. Antibiotics do not last in your system for 3 months, so you don't need to wait that long. To be safe, first make sure you are taking a prenatal vitamin every day that has at least 400mcg of folic acid in it. Then, I would wait until one full menstrual cycle passes. Then it should be ok. However, you need to speak with your healthcare provider for the final word. Some providers recommend waiting a certain length of time before attempting to get pregnant again. This is based on the woman's health history so check in with your provider to be sure. Good luck. Sending you love, light, and healing.
