I always composed even when i was a kid, the lyrics and melody in my head, but I never learn any instrument because of my attention spam and motivation. Now being a 20 years old that doesnt even know how to play a keyboard, but thinks in lyrics and melody all the time is pretty frustrating
That’s real. I started taking the piano seriously pretty late, but I found that having fun with it made everything better. I learned songs that I liked to listen to and played around with the different sounds I could make. The first few songs I wrote on the piano were a lot of experimental plunking. 😂 Honestly, after a while, you’ll get excited about learning things like scales because they make other things easier.
Keep practicing! Spend some time super slowly going through a song while singing. Slow practice is the best kind. You’ll get there soon! For now, you can still try playing block chords without any embellishments. There’s no such thing as perfection, so do your best wherever you are. 💜
@@princessjunemarienessjusay I've written lyrics to song that already exist. So it's like a parody and for 2 of my originals I've come up with lyrics but not the tune. Please help?

I was learning how to play my guitar back then but when I’m singing along with the sound that I am making, I always mess up because of the distraction with the strings. AND IT’S MY FIRST TIME WATCHING YOU, you sound so good. 🥺🥺
Haha, definitely! Your brain starts to make little shortcuts when you do more than one thing at once, though. Kind of like how you don’t think “pick up left leg; put down left leg; pick up right leg; put down right leg.” You just think, “walk.” Singing, writing, and playing an instrument (or a cup, for that matter) all feels hard at first, but if you learn each thing a little bit at a time, it starts to feel automatic. After a little while, you barely think about it. 😊
I do t take singing lessons I just wanted to know how to learn to write a song bc all they say is “write your emotions on paper and make those into lyrics” but I just can’t
I find that starting with big emotions can be really daunting because there's no way to ground yourself. If you don't have a starting point, writing the first word can be super scary. Instead, maybe try choosing a memory or scene. If you're writing about a time when you felt super happy, start your verse by explaining where you were (or where the character was) and what happened. Then that way, you've got something concrete to write about and your listener can feel more connected to the story. One of the best things you can do as a new songwriter is to organize your ideas ahead of time. I like to use an outline so that I never get stuck halfway through. Here's the one I use if you're interested: www.aprilkeez.com/post/my-songwriting-outline Hope that's helpful!
You are AWESOME!! You should make a video for people like me who are absolutely obsessed but don't sing OR play an instrument. Pull that one off, and you will have single-handedly created thousands of pieces of art in the world that would have never been there otherwise and that would be Dope AF.

@@AprilKeez I knew you were awesome. The fact that you truly care is all over you. Yep! It’s been covered under a couple of other names, but I called it “The Cup Song” since that’s what it’s most known as. The original is by The Carter Family. 😊
thankyou so much this gave me hope 🥺 you mentioned about taking lessons but my family isn’t very supportive of it and I’m still quite young so at the moment I’m stuck :(
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm sorry that your family isn't supportive. You may be able to get around that in a few ways. There are several websites with "virtual instruments" and a few others that allow you to create beats online. You can use these, along with RUclips videos or cheap beginner books to learn some stuff without a teacher. There are also small 2-octave keyboards, which can be pretty cheap and can be used with headphones, so as not to disturb your family members with the noise. Here are some links that might be helpful: A video I made about beginner piano ruclips.net/video/gRR3KZuHurQ/видео.html A virtual piano that you can play with your computer keyboard www.onlinepianist.com/virtual-piano A website where you can make your own beats www.soundtrap.com/ I hope these are helpful!!
I just come up with the lyrics suddenly...I would be thinking something and the words would flow...so i pen it down...and somehow even without any music knowledge I will be able to cook up a melody too...only problem I sing very average and I dont play any instruments/produce music on Bandlab, etc. So some 5+ songs are just lying around the corner...I tried to find people to collab for the music...but who would wanna collab with a complete novice? So, am thinking of opening an Insta page and uploading my lyrics there...maybe one day someone will come forward for a collab and my songs might get discovered! So, all aspiring people, lets rock and shine soon!
Honestly, the hardest part is getting started. Once you start learning how to make music, whether that be on an instrument or digital tracks, it'll get easier every time you do it. Here's a video about beginner piano that might be helpful in getting you started: ruclips.net/video/gRR3KZuHurQ/видео.html Let me know if you have any questions about writing the music! 💜
I wrote a song but I dont know how to use any kind of instrument...Is it okay if I just sing the lyrics without any instrumentals and beats...I'll just use my own voice and the rhythm in my head is it possible?
I created some lyrics and got melodies for them but i can't compose at all. I tried but i gave up the first thing. It wasn't matching with the melodies i chose for the song.
I wanna buy and learn guitar, but my mom doesn't like that.. my mother always say to study.. but I'm interested in music.. music is my passion and I wanna follow my passion, I want to make a lot of music.. I wrote some songs without instrument, but it's not good enough.. but I hope one day I can buy my dream guitar and follow my passion
I'm interested in knowing more about people who use midi files, loops, not even sure what they are called, to create songs. It seems these royalty free loops are very well recorded and could make someone's original music sound amazing, which to me is like cheating. Do you cover this?
I have a question. If my song already has its vocal notes, but I have no music knowledge, so how can I make the instrumental aspect of this song that fits my vocal melody>
I looked around online a little bit and found this: www.apronus.com/music/onlineguitar.htm What I would do is sing the first note of the song and then click through the chord buttons next to the piano on this website until you find one that sounds good. Most songs change the chord at the end of each line and use a loop of around 4 chords, but do what sounds good to you. Play around with it. I hope that helps!
Not at all! Firstly, finding a co-writer is a great option for you. Getting another person involved can mean that you'll have someone to test out your ideas with. I think that finding a vocalist who plays a bit of an instrument is a great move because you can provide the lyrics. You can also get familiar with the Piano Roll on a DAW (like Garageband) or the notes on the piano or guitar, which can help you plunk out melodies. For guitar, tablature is probably the easiest way to write out your melody ideas. Finally, if you intend to learn more guitar, finding a teacher is a fantastic option. A guitar teacher can help you with melody writing and can help you to add music to your lyrics. Hope that helps!
There are a bunch of loops that you have to pay for, but there are a fair number of free tools, as well! I’ve had good luck playing around with the free features. I’ve been meaning to make a tutorial on this for quite some time; I’ll try to make it happen soon!
I have written lyrics down and have a sense of very few instruments and currently trying to learn drums!(which is extremely hard to do without drums due to financial reasons) but I’ll come up with a beat in my head but can’t really pin it down. I need to *hear* it Wanted to know if there’s an app or program that has the ability to let me create my own instrumentals? That would definitely help!
That's real. It's totally normal and valid to learn on pillows or drum pads, though! Are you using a book for drums? I learned with Carmine Appice's Realistic Rock which was great. I found that it was much easier to get a sense of which drum patterns I liked the most and how to write them with drum notation. There are a bunch of great programs! I actually go through them in a bunch of detail in the follow-up to this video, so feel free to check it out! ruclips.net/video/qCDELbHd5kk/видео.html
Here's a video I made about melody writing, which will hopefully answer your question: ruclips.net/video/SqH8LJzCPoE/видео.html. If not, let me know and I'll be happy to elaborate. I hope it helps!
I charge a fee for song critiques because I get a lot of requests; hopefully, that works for you! If not, I'm happy to answer specific questions! 😊 www.aprilkeez.com/critiques-and-lessons
If you find that you keep getting stuck halfway through, I would recommend planning out your songs ahead of time. I find that outlining can really help. Basically, think about the full story ahead of time and you'll be less likely to get stuck while you're in the creative flow. Since you already have a bunch of unfinished songs, I would say to just go ahead and write _something_. Even if it's terrible, do it anyway. It's better to have a bad idea that you can edit than no idea at all. Here's a video that might be helpful: How to Finish a Song ruclips.net/video/XrQIIYHnFq4/видео.html I hope it's helpful! 💜
Or just imagine how it should play out, in your head. Remember, Beethoven wrote some of his greatest symphonies deaf. That's because he was able to "hear" it in his mind.
You can still learn on a small piano! Eventually, you’ll want to play on something with weighted keys, but you can absolutely learn the basics with what you have. 😊
Like musical theater? If so, maybe the best option would be to work with a composer. If you can write a script, lyrics, and maybe record voice memos of the melodies, I'm sure that there are some awesome composers out there who would be able to expand on your ideas and bring the whole thing to life! Also keep in mind that it's never too late to start playing an instrument! 😊
I should have been a little clearer in the video, but basically, you can't sample or use royalty-free music in your own recording. You can, however, use the chord progression. Chord progressions can't really be copyrighted, so a good option might be to write the song over the royalty-free track and then have an instrumentalist play that chord progression when it comes time to actually record it. Hopefully, that makes sense! 💜
I don't play any instruments, I just hear the whole melody in my head and write my own lyrics, so if I'm recording a song and I come up w everything except writing down the progressions, and someone else writes them then will their name be in the songwriting credits, will they be paid if they didn't contribute anything except writing down or composing the chords to the melody I already came up on my own with?
That's an interesting question! I think it depends on how you choose to divide it. When I co-write, I typically have that sort of conversation with the other writer. Chords can't be copyrighted, so I think you're generally safe to consider it yours, but I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not 100% certain. Just to be safe, I'd check in with the person who writes the chords and make sure you're on the same page.
I like music but none of my family memes know.. I’m thinking of making a song called beach vibes but I’m you g and I don’t play instruments 😂 Thx though!
I want to write songs that are more in the rock genre- but I suck at playing instruments and Im also a women, so my voice isn’t as low as I would like it to be.
Never ever let being a woman hold you back from anything! Some of the most badass rock musicians of all time are women! 😍 You can totally have a high soprano voice and be a killer rock musician - take Amy Lee or Hayley Williams, for instance. When it comes to playing instruments, start with wherever you are. So many rock songs are built around only three or four chords. Punk songs, in particular, use a lot of power chords, which are some of the easiest guitar chords to pick up. There are a lot of ways to create an awesome sound without being the best at playing an instrument. But also keep in mind that it's never too late to start playing or practicing more! You can do it!
When I take a track online and put my voice on it you can tell that the instruments weren't being played while I was singing. My friend said it sounded like I made it in garage band. Is there a way to make it not sound like that? Check out my singing channel Kait Sings and you can tell what Im talking about the piano just seems so fake
The piano doesn't sound fake to me! I do notice that the vocals and piano sound a bit off in certain spots. When you record, are you using a click track?
I'm so glad!! You might also enjoy this one: ruclips.net/video/Or5Vy6LSC-g/видео.html It's about writing a song for your crush/partner and focuses mostly on lyric writing, so hopefully, it provides some useful stuff without an instrument. 💜Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
I think it depends on what you want to say, but I think specifics are always a good way to go. I like to come up with some memories and write lyrics with a specific scene or image in my head. Try to come up with some descriptions of the scene using your senses - what smells, sounds, images, etc. come to your mind? I hope that helps!
Do you know it always play that song and play this remind me of how great this world was until the coronavirus came in I hope everyone is being safe out there being smart and I am a marine I wasn't law enforcement and all I can say is I wish everyone the best of luck I can possibly be possible we do and yeah
I actually try and write lyrics all the time. But they come out shit. I want to write an original, but my words are bad. Also I written something a few mins ago. I think it's okay, but then I'll end up deleting it.
I feel that. Maybe try keeping your not-so-exciting songs in their own folder, rather than deleting them. That way, you can take a look through them later and figure out what you can do better. Plus, you'll be able to see how far you've come. 😊
Oh no! What kind of keyboard is it? Maybe we can figure out what kind of cord it uses. In the meantime, www.onlinepianist.com/virtual-piano is a great resource! You can use your computer keyboard to play the notes. I hope it's helpful! 😊
I like this dress very much and it's a shame that you found it distracting - you missed some helpful content. I'd recommend listening to the video instead next time. 😊

The song you were singing is cslled when im gone.
Yep! It’s been covered under a couple of other names, but I called it “The Cup Song” since that’s what it’s most known as. The original is by The Carter Family. 😊
Thanks a lot! This was a very informative and uplifting video. Rock on! :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Love from India 🇮🇳
Rhythm option helped a lot 🖤
thankyou so much this gave me hope 🥺 you mentioned about taking lessons but my family isn’t very supportive of it and I’m still quite young so at the moment I’m stuck :(
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Here are some links that might be helpful:

April Keez omg thank you so much ! really means alot to me ❤️
Respect the audio quality. Great video
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Your teaching way is simple and beautiful ❤️
Thank you! 🥰
I like everything about you. You have a GREAT personality. You make me wish I was 30 years younger.
I do sing
My hobby love it
Wonderful! Keep singing!!
I write what I think, wanna be a great Hollywood singer one day for sure❤️
I have everything to make a song but my issue is to make the background music
I’m good at making songs and sing but making the right background song
Honestly, the hardest part is getting started. Once you start learning how to make music, whether that be on an instrument or digital tracks, it'll get easier every time you do it.
Here's a video about beginner piano that might be helpful in getting you started:

Let me know if you have any questions about writing the music! 💜
I hav the same problem
I wrote a song but I dont know how to use any kind of instrument...Is it okay if I just sing the lyrics without any instrumentals and beats...I'll just use my own voice and the rhythm in my head is it possible?
Yes its possible nothing is impossible
Talent
Nice
Great, now I’m getting simply piano adds for the next week.
thank you for making this video!!!!!!!
Of course! So glad you enjoyed it!
Omg thank you!!!!💕 Also you're beautiful.
Thank you! 😊 I'm so glad it was helpful!
Can you pls telll me how can i sing without an insterment cause no one knows how to play insterments and i want it to be a surprise for my family
0:57 in 2x speed cool! it can be song like burial - archangel
I'm interested in knowing more about people who use midi files, loops, not even sure what they are called, to create songs. It seems these royalty free loops are very well recorded and could make someone's original music sound amazing, which to me is like cheating. Do you cover this?
Great mam
Can you tell my how to do a cover song in RUclips with proper music and voice?
Can I ask that how to merge so many voices made by myself in one song??
Your brill thank you :-)
Cat:What are u doing
You:talking..
I have a question. If my song already has its vocal notes, but I have no music knowledge, so how can I make the instrumental aspect of this song that fits my vocal melody>
I looked around online a little bit and found this: www.apronus.com/music/onlineguitar.htm
What I would do is sing the first note of the song and then click through the chord buttons next to the piano on this website until you find one that sounds good. Most songs change the chord at the end of each line and use a loop of around 4 chords, but do what sounds good to you. Play around with it. I hope that helps!
@@AprilKeez Thank you very much I will try it out
I hope it helps!
but what can i do if i dont sing and play an instrument at all but know a bit of guitar and love writing lyrics...? am i totally lost then?
I’ve written about 5 complete songs that I love and I sang them without instruments. Do you think it’s too late to start the piano I’m 17?
It’s never too late! I started piano in my 20s!
Where are you from nice April ? :)
ty now its easy
So glad to hear it!
Hey I have a doubt I don't have apple so I can't install GarageBand. Can you suggest a music app.
I would recommend checking out soundtrap.com. It’s a website, so there are no downloads. You just have to make an account. 😊
@@AprilKeez thank you soo much. I'll definitely try it out
Absolutely! I hope it’s helpful!
@@AprilKeez hey I tried what you told me to do. But the problem is that we can't create loops without paying.
I need to *hear* it
Wanted to know if there’s an app or program that has the ability to let me create my own instrumentals? That would definitely help!
That's real. It's totally normal and valid to learn on pillows or drum pads, though! Are you using a book for drums? I learned with Carmine Appice's Realistic Rock which was great. I found that it was much easier to get a sense of which drum patterns I liked the most and how to write them with drum notation.
There are a bunch of great programs! I actually go through them in a bunch of detail in the follow-up to this video, so feel free to check it out! ruclips.net/video/qCDELbHd5kk/видео.html
If I use somebody else instrumental how would I sing to it
Here's a video I made about melody writing, which will hopefully answer your question: ruclips.net/video/SqH8LJzCPoE/видео.html. If not, let me know and I'll be happy to elaborate. I hope it helps!
I’ve written a song and it’s about mental illness. Could you help me check?
I charge a fee for song critiques because I get a lot of requests; hopefully, that works for you! If not, I'm happy to answer specific questions! 😊 www.aprilkeez.com/critiques-and-lessons
I wrote a lot of songs but they are just unfinished idk how to finish it
If you find that you keep getting stuck halfway through, I would recommend planning out your songs ahead of time. Here's a video that might be helpful:

I hope it's helpful! 💜
I wrote 27 songs and still writing and have made melody too but I can't play instruments so I didn't make any track for them
That's awesome!! I hope the video helped with creating the track!
👌💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Or just imagine how it should play out, in your head. Remember, Beethoven wrote some of his greatest symphonies deaf. That's because he was able to "hear" it in his mind.
I have a piano but im not sure it you can even call it a piano, its one of those toy pianos, I got scamed when buying it.
You can still learn on a small piano! Eventually, you’ll want to play on something with weighted keys, but you can absolutely learn the basics with what you have. 😊
"There is a cat behind me."
you know if is possible make a musical without music....?i dont know how to make because i dont play any instrument...
*garage band*
So Can we use copyright and royalty free for songs?
I should have been a little clearer in the video, but basically, you can't sample or use royalty-free music in your own recording. You can, however, use the chord progression. Chord progressions can't really be copyrighted, so a good option might be to write the song over the royalty-free track and then have an instrumentalist play that chord progression when it comes time to actually record it. Hopefully, that makes sense! 💜
woah
@@AprilKeez oh okay makes sense tysm for replying!! appreciate it :)
@@NotJoegoldberg Absolutely!
I like music but none of my family memes know..
I’m thinking of making a song called beach vibes but I’m you g and I don’t play instruments 😂
Thx though!
I love it! Beach Vibes sounds like an awesome summer song. 😊 Go for it! Let me know if you have any questions as you write.
Hi April i love this video it is super helpful but i am having trouble finding online beats message me when you can have a good day.
My new song ❤️ two or three lines
No fear Let's ham jeet ke dikhayenge..
Can this work for covers
Yep! Feel free to use any of this. Singing a cappella with a loop pedal, for instance, is a great way to make a unique cover. 😊
This helped me a lot Because i'm trying to write a song about my crush
So if any one has any ideas please I'd like it if you could help me.

It's about writing a song for your crush/partner and focuses mostly on lyric writing, so hopefully, it provides some useful stuff without an instrument. 💜Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
@@AprilKeez thanks so much Ill check it out
@@AprilKeezIf you have any ideas of things I should put in the song plz let me know.
I think it depends on what you want to say, but I think specifics are always a good way to go. I like to come up with some memories and write lyrics with a specific scene or image in my head. Try to come up with some descriptions of the scene using your senses - what smells, sounds, images, etc. come to your mind? I hope that helps!
From which country are you ?
U.S.A. 😊 Which country are you from?
Cup song expert 💫💫
Let’s just say I taught a lot of voice lessons in 2013. 😂
Do you know it always play that song and play this remind me of how great this world was until the coronavirus came in I hope everyone is being safe out there being smart and I am a marine I wasn't law enforcement and all I can say is I wish everyone the best of luck I can possibly be possible we do and yeah
Thank you for your service! I hope you're staying safe and well, too.
@@AprilKeez oh. That's a good idea.
My mom keeps taking my instruments and returning them back to the store :/
Oh no! How come? 😕
we need to make a song, but i have *NO IDEA*

I play piano but lost the cord for it
Oh no! What kind of keyboard is it? Maybe we can figure out what kind of cord it uses.
