I recently bought a 90s home and I 100% rescued it from an a bad flipper. The previous owners didn't live there long, but they replaced the original tile and wood floor with grey vinyl. And our primary bedroom and one bathroom currently has vinyl shiplap 🤢. Luckily all the original oak trim and finishes survived and I'm thinking the original tile and floor are hidden underneath. Looking forward to bringing it back to life!
I'm genuinly praying for you and that poor house bro I so so so pray that there isn't like a massive mold bomb or something hidden/caused by the flippers. I ain't even religious but I'm on damn knees for sky daddy cuz It really gets to my fees when old houses get the flipper treatment.
The fireplace people absolutely destroyed me. I get that stick-on vynil mosaic stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea, but watching them peel it was horrible. The house looked to cool! Potential midcentury modern beauty! And then. This happened. Somebody would have adored that house the was it was :')
There was a house reno show on BBC and the family turned an old power station (looked like the set of Dr Who! Platforms and walkways and character!!) into a white cement box. It was like destroying the soul of it!
Yeah, I live in an area where these local property investors/flippers are buying up everything they can. This, includes land as well as houses and commercial property. I own some farmland and it passes me off when these pretentious hustle culture assholes call or show up and act like your just going sell your shit so they can make a killing on your hard work and emotional investment. I consider most of these people parasites.......yes they do drive real prices so most can't afford to buy a home or a piece of land. I don't really know any millennials that'd choose grey over other options, at least not where I live. I've painted my walls seafoam, pink and deep teal so far.
I saw them on ig reels and it just got progressively worse and worse. The comments were all saying something along the lines of "It looks unfinished." and honestly it does 😭I don't normally say anything about people's houses especially on tiktok or reels, but it just looks ugly... Edit: Oh god I saw the second reel just a few days ago. It hurt me so bad when they put the shelf in the garage. They said in the comments that the new owner can just put the shelf back like that doesn't cost effort and money 😭😭 And on an unrelated note: I feel that last part. I don't know how to deal with that sense of hopelessness as well. I just think that even if i'm not doing anything, the fact that i'm here accounts for something. We appreciate you too, so keep making amazing videos!!
It’s just like. They’re making every wrong decision. And I think when it’s all finished, it will just end up looking like a diy project gone wrong. And thank you so much! I guess feeling a bit hopeless sometimes is a part of being human. We will get through it ugh sure is annoying though
Oh my god, did you see the vynil mosaic peel? Like, I get that not everyone is a fan of that, but I thought it looked good. The whole house had a potential to become a mid-century modern heaven :')

I have a light light grey with dark green accent walls and another jeweled sea green on the bathroom cabinet, windowsills, doorways, trim, and barn doors. It looks so pretty.
I live around St Louis and there are so many old, beautiful homes here. When my partner and I were looking for a house earlier this year we were so sad at what some flippers had done to some of these super unique houses. They'd look super unique on the outside and be soul-less inside. Or flippers would buy a house off the market for cheap, do some exterior paint and a little landscaping then list it for 20k to 50k more. Actually deplorable shit.
house flipper (the game) is only like 30 dollars and more people need to make that investment for the sake of interior designers everywhere they could've custom made a beam out of lightweight wood and stain it a darker brown but no snickers bar on the roof it is
If people want to have a lighter color for their walls, pastels are literally right there. Nice light colors that still have plenty of life that need to be utilized more
My mom loves house flipper shows but it’s in large part because we renovate our homes, not to flip it for profit but to customize it to my mom’s preferences, so any changes we make are also stable not like just painting over moisture damage. She laughed out loud at the ridiculous Mcdonald’s PlayPlace beam. My mom does like gray walls but she balances it out with cool wallpaper, wall features, some other accent colors, and the gray is on a bit more of the blue side. She also puts up paintings, primarily mine lol. She made an entire feature wall with shelves for my art to go up on
im settling into work but realistically i will still need a couple of years to buy a house and it literally makes me SICK when i see houses i would love getting torn apart and turned beige
Late to the party but recently bought a 90’s house and it has been rented out for years and it’s all white and I cannot wait to get rid of the white. It’s a small place so some of the white is staying to avoid making it look small but it needs some personality
I actually have a story that relates to this. Kinda. My granparents sold their summer cabin in 2015, it was old and beautiful and had so much personality. Well, it's now on sale again and let me tell you. That thing got the landlord super deluxe. I have never seen so much white and grey in my damn life. Like idk how they managed but it genuinly is retina burning.
My last house was built in 1940, and I took great care when making repairs to original features, and I made sure any updates were harmonious with the original style of the house. The current owners are “investors”, and they’ve been doing a major renovation to enlarge the house, likely with the intention to resell. The results are god awful - mismatch of styles, cheap generic trendy fixtures that probably came from Home Depot, and, yes, lots of grey paint! I’m sure they have spent over $100k on the renovations, but the house looks so much cheaper than it used to. It used to have historic character and class, now it looks like cheap new construction.
I will not buy a house that has been flipped because they use the cheapest products and take shortcuts. You buy it just have to correct all the crappy work that was done to begin with.
Since you asked: I get to see my boyfriend maybe once a year if I'm lucky. We've been together for nearly 10 years now. He's the love of my life, my best friend and my other half. I took three weeks off from work so we could spend some quality time together. My boss approved the leave more than six months ahead of time. I was told today that, while I was gone, the office was buckling under the pressure of a big project, and my boss is angry with me for not telling my boyfriend to "entertain himself" for a few days while I go in to work, along with telling me I should just get a new boyfriend who lives closer... I need this job, but holy shit did I almost walk out...
everyone has different taste! I like some grey walls, but most of the time when its paired with everything else grey-its too much for me. we can all have different opinions and tastes and thats totally fine!
All my walls are various shades of grey, but it is way better then the solid flat beige color of the 2010’s that was literally the only color in the house
One week I got super fucking sick and while scrolling for shows I came upon a shower that involves one of my interests true crime I think it was called “murder house flip” or something like that idk but I thought it was really cool taking homes with dark and horrific past and making them the way they were before the murders and making them feel like a home instead of a past crime scene
Not gonna lie I love a good grey wall, but that’s just it, it has to be a good grey wall; not just a smothering of light grey to keep the space neutral and suck the life out of it. Give me a dark grey wall to help ground a space, or a concrete wall to incorporate an industrial feeling, but for the love of all things good just DON’T JUST PAINT THE WALLS GREY AND CALL IT A DAY
Back in maybe 2013 ? My parents did 2 house flips and they would rip out stinky carpets and fix wiring and paint, both took probably about more then 2 months and we would have to sleep in the house because my parents worked 24/7. Hated every min in them and one smelled like cat pee badly before my parents fliped it. Honestly they didnt do a bad or crappy job but these tiktackers did shitty jobs 😭😣
The right shade of grey or greige on the wall can look and feel great if the rest of the room is done well to complement it. It's just a color that requires a lot of thought and a plan, which a lot of people don't do.
Millenial grey is the response to sterile white or beige walls from the 1990s and early 2000s. It originally was the 'hip, modern neutral wall paint'. Now its become as oppressive as white paint and all white kitchens
I JUST saw your other comment on my new video, because i looked in the hidden comments that contain "harmful" language LOL but i cant find it anymore! i don't know the meme! thank you for watching!! :3
I agree about the gray walls. I feel like it takes away the life and soul from the house. Especially when paired with gray or white furniture. Why can’t these houses show off a little personality?
The next generation of house renovations content is gonna be house restoration after the massacre these flippers have done to some of these beautiful homes
It’s awesome seeing young commentators putting themselves out there and saying their piece. This energy from the younger generations is amazing!! Don’t give up hope, all the old people will die and you’ll be left in charge.
Do you happen to have Leo in your chart? Thanks for the fresh topic btw! What hurt the most is the shelving they took out of the studio.. Also why would they put up "art" with the intention of an artist in mind? No thanks, I'll display my own art thank you very much. Also the only way grey would be cool for walls is if it had like a glitter to it, so that when the light hits it, it reflects pretty colors, idk
LOL you would hate my house I choose a very pale grey for my walls as I sure wasnt gonna have white or ... shudder... cream/beige but I love my grey walls you get diffferent colours depending how the light hits it sometimes a bit more bluey sometimes a bit more white
I think it’s more of when it’s grey walls and grey floors and everything grey. I think grey walls CAN be really pretty done correctly. But usually places are just given the landlord special and they slap some sad paint on there. But if you make the space YOU, and it has personality, that’s so much different!! Also, totally there with you on the…shudder…BEIGE 😬
House flippers are a kind of confident that reminds me I don't need to try everything
I just cackled yes exactly
I like that they tore down the bookcase that was well made and visually appealing and then said "It was just lacking the art" about the same area.
I recently bought a 90s home and I 100% rescued it from an a bad flipper. The previous owners didn't live there long, but they replaced the original tile and wood floor with grey vinyl. Me, a millennial, looking at my gray walls during that rant. To be fair, each room has one bright wall and the kitchen is lemon yellow.
There was a house reno show on BBC and the family turned an old power station (looked like the set of Dr Who! Platforms and walkways and character!!) into a white cement box. It was like destroying the soul of it!
That "beam" looks like a nasty Tootsie Roll that someone glazed, for some reason.
It's simple really, I see a Doxie video, I click. This one is the best one yet!!
The foam beam looks bad on camera, imagine how bad it'll look in real life when you're right underneath it.
so... the "beam" goes right through the chimney. if it were real.

Grey walls with black furniture is so soothing and calming!!!!! I'll take that over white or beige or random colours that are overwhelming
Every time I hear “house flipping” I literally think of a house back flipping and the caving in on itself 😀
in a lot of cases i think that would be more humane for the house
