I really appreciate this comment. Definitely share the video around. I will say that I have been training for so many years that I forget to share things I've learned that I wish I had known when I first started.
Good, wise words. I heard a sports physio who knows Tadej Pogacar coach. He said Tadej trains 80-90 % in zone 2. I'm an old guy who likes long rides. But I used to ride 90 % in zone 1, easy. Once I started pushing into zone 2 for an hour or 2, my FTP endurance started to make gains.
Always appreciate and love the video's , training advice and knowledge!! I wish it was looked into more.... I do use TrainerRoad (for the past 5 + years), and at 50 years old....and with a job that cripples me physically and mentally Mon-Friday... I need to do my workouts, before work.... I'm 5'8 , 145 lbs & 4.0 w/kg now. I've gone from their Mid Volume " normal/ previous " programs to the Masters Program due to my job. It's so easy... and fun, I'm on High Volume. In saying that, I am someone who is addicted to training and stucture... not so much racing, I'll put my own Personal A events/goals on the calendar instead of paying entrance fee's such as stage races, everesting, etc. Everything is always changing, and everyone is amazing, yet different. I love your content, and if I could get a personal coach that is similar to TR in that- for the same price, that answers my daily questions and texts.... and adapts as needed for me to improve..... I would.
I appreciate your honesty. A coach is an investment but honestly something I find a lot of value in. But hey, as you said, if a coach was $20 a month then you would jump onboard.
Great advice thank you for sharing. What is your thoughts on generic training plans you can get from Wahoo or Zwift for example? I am not a racer but I really want to improve my fitness but can’t justify the cost of a coach. So I’ve used these plans from time to time and I do see some OK results but I still don’t think I am maximizing my time and training. Thanks in advance love the channel.
@@troycollett8540 I don’t have any issues anymore it was more when I first started cycling and didn’t know any better. It wasn’t just on the bike but also off it. I talk a lot about nutrition on my channel I make cycling videos as well.
2 hard rides a week for me, the rest endurance riding. I ride with guys who do 3+ group rides a week and are simply too fatigued to actually push hard anymore.
This is excellent advice 👏🏾 This is where self-discipline and ego must not be ignored!
But it is so hard sometimes. The ego starts screaming. Haha
80bpm at 120 watts is insane lol
For most riders at his lvl thats pretty normal, im far under his lvl but for 120w id prolly have a HR of 95-100
@@SyLens1 same here, 180 watts puts me @ 100 bpm indoors w/ fans
I have 100bpm while walking 😂
@cracked229 did you have a non super human bpm before you started cycling or is this genetics?
dont worry @@marianbossman when walking my HR is often around 100 too while its lower when cycling
Very true and for older riders over 50, hard riding Once a week.
This is the stuff I wish everyone who gets into training on their bike could hear. Very solid and sound advice.

So many aerobic adaptations happen at zone 2. Riding zone 1 all the time will do nothing for fitness outside of keeping muscle memory and freshness.
Thank you!

Awesome work chaaaaz, keep going
Thanks a ton
Gr8 advice Chaz, learn my lesson the hard way
Glad it could help. I too have learned the hard way years ago. That's a story for another day.
Great advice, thank you. Will try to do that.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video as always Chad. Being self coach is definitely hard and sometimes I learn things the hard way specially with nutrition. Cheers 🍻.
I started using the eat my ride app

I found that app bugy. It is cool but too many bugs for me.

Sounds like you got the recipe correct!
A lot of riders seem to think high TSS means you get fitter lol
I always face palm when I see a rider go over on TSS on a recovery day. Haha
👍👍
Easy days or recovery you shouldn’t really get out of zone 1 a good ride to go get a coffee etc
100% As I said in the video, I also see zone 2 endurance days as easy days so there is no need to chase watts and start pushing tempo.
