I'm sorry a springtime ride was cut short, Tony. Always appreciate the effort you put in sharing what you're up to. It sounds like you're feeling a bit better -- wishing you all the best!
Tony, hope you are doing well by now. Glad you got some bike time in. Sorry the trip didn't end as planned. I'll look for you around Johnson Co. and will be sure and give you plenty of space on the shoulder!
Wow what a coincidence! I stayed at Rocky Creek on Thursday and Jeff Busby last night (Friday) and heading to Tishomingo Saturday evening. The closer you get to Jackson, the traffic gets worse and many of them care less about the speed limit. Sorry you missed out on the Visitor's center. The restrooms are very clean. The museum is small, but nice and there's free coffee. Stay safe out there!!
@Tony Hyde went pretty well except I got soaking wet at Rocky Creek when I couldn't get my tent up fast enough. Other than that, I had an amazing trip. Continuing it from Tishomingo State Park (which is really nice) to Nashville in the fall when the Trace gets repaired past Tishomingo.
I've had two ticks last year. I used Vick's, a heavy glob on the tick, and within a few minutes it backed out for air. Was I just lucky? Don't know, don't care, it worked. Have a safe, healthy bike year.
Wow, I can't believe this happened to you! What the heck is going on this year? I'm sorry you had to cut your trip short, and I'm hoping that you've fully recovered from whatever it was by now. Take care, my friend!
Well Tony I am so sorry about this. But so glad you had the grit to get yourself back home safely. That sucks. But I have no doubt that after some R&R and maybe a trip to the doc you will be feeling better and back in the saddle very soon. Take good care in the meantime.
I received my packet but sadly an operation my wife had scheduled for after Memorial Day weekend was rescheduled for May 26. It was hard to tell my Missouri friends I have to cancel. I hope you have a blast ✌
Hey Tony, hope you’re feeling better, terrible to be on a tour and getting sick. Looks like a good trip before things went south. Your doctor will figure it out and you’ll be back in the saddle soon. I’m on my tour from the Canadian border down to NYC. After two days camping I’m in a motel. Thanks for the video and take care, Steve
Hi Steve. I spent about half a day at the hospital. They did blood tests, EKG, chest x-rays, CT scan and still aren't sure what happened. At least I know my heart is still good to go. 🤓. I hope your trip is going well and congratulations on your channel growth. That's great

@@BluecollarBackcountry Hey Tony, never saw this message. Hope your shingles improved and you're back in the saddle again. That's a very painful condition. Since I hadn't seen any videos from you I was hoping everything was okay. Take care my friend, Steve
Man Tony that was not a good situation to be in. Hope you are completely over it now. Some times you just have to know when to call things. Sounds like you made the right decision.
Ticks can be tricky. I got Lyme disease twice in 2020, and my doctor had to get educated about it on the first round. I knew some things about it because back in Minnesota I know people whose lives got pretty messed up by Lyme disease and by not getting the disease treated soon enough. It's a newer problem here in Michigan. The first time symptoms didn't happen until weeks after my tick bites. And then they went away and I thought I was well again (and I learned I didn't have covid) but a few days after later the symptoms came back again. When I finally got a diagnosis from blood samples sent to the Mayo Clinic and got a doxycycline prescription, it cleared up pretty quick, though I still had a couple of rough nights. Keeping the doxycycline down was a problem for me at first. The 2nd time it started in again just a few days after the bite that probably caused it, and that time it got treated quicker. I just don't know if it can happen so soon after a bite like you had, but it might be worth finding out, because the disease can go dormant for a while before it comes back to bother you again, and then you might not have a complete recovery. I don't know how much it cost to get the testing done at Mayo -- I think Medicare covered it, but it may have been my other insurance. Other things can happen too. I think I had the VSR virus the first half of March, but I didn't go to the doctor for that, so it's a self-diagnosis. It started with a dry cough, and the cough lasted a couple weeks. I understand that's a common symptom. I tested myself for a covid a few times but those tests were always negative. I have a pulse oximeter that I got during the big covid year, and a few evenings my oxygen level was down to where the standard advice is: "go to the hospital." But each time I didn't want to wake my wife to take me to the ER, and each time I was a little better by morning. Not good, but not in the danger zone. Eventually I got to where I could do things again, but It took a long time before I could get back to bike riding as usual. (One nasty thing for an outdoor person like you when it comes to doxycycline: the advice is to stay out of the sun while you're taking it. I guess it makes some people (or most people, I'm not sure which) extra sensitive to sun.)
That sounds serious John. They did blood tests, chest x-rays and a CT scan. I received antibiotics for the tick but they still aren't sure what happened.✌
@@BluecollarBackcountry I'm glad to hear you and your medical providers are doing the necessary things to stay on top of it and monitor it. How are you now?

Thank y'all. Michelle took me to a hospital yesterday and after blood tests, chest xrays, ekg, and CT scan they still don't know what happened. Antibiotics for the tick but they didn't think that was the cause. Our kids thought it was covid also but after 3 weeks there was no sign of it. 🤒
That'll do it. I had a tick on the back of my head when I was about 9. My mom pulled it out but the head stayed in and it got really infected. All my glands were swollen and I wasn't feeling so bueno. The Dr. use a special pair of plier to get he head out and it cleared right up.
Ouch, that sounds harsh on the back of your head. The hospital gave me antibiotics for the tick but they didn't think that was the cause. Still don't know.
Hope you're one hundred percent better now. I hate those ticks, make you itch like crazy. The road on the Trace didn't seem to have much of a shoulder or those open views of Texas or here.
Hope you're feeling better by now and didn't come in contact with one of them lyme carrying ticks. Dude! I feel your pain. Day 1 of the Alabama Triple Crow hiking challenge...Mile 8/20 for the day and food poisoning hits I was one SICK dude. I lost 9 pounds in just a few hours! However, ticks are a very different story! Get to a doctor and get checked. One of my buddies contracted alpha-gal while on a hiking trip. Google it. It is rough stuff. He is now basically allergic to RED MEAT!
@@BluecollarBackcountry Yeah my buddy found out that he was diabetic at the same time, so he has had to TOTALLY change his whole lifestyle. All he ate was red meat and bread. Now he can’t have either one. He is down over 50 pounds, but it has been good for him.
When, not if you go to the doctor be sure to mention the tick although that’s probably not what got you ill, be sure to mention the chlorinated water. Normally water is not chlorinated that heavily unless there has been a problem and with some water lines it is not possible to use boil orders so the plants use high levels of chlorination. I would not be surprised if you picked up a bug from the water but it should show up in the right blood panel.
