This is kind of my own spin on the theory That Daria's "aunt" got pregnant at a time she couldn't raise a kid so she begged her sister to take care of the kid. She also begged her not to tell Daria that she gave up her own child because she felt ashamed. And when her sister admits to Daria being her real sister, I think it's just like those moments where they aren't really sisters but they care about each other and she's like a real sister to her. The reason why the "mom" speaks so poorly of her is because she's mad at her for giving up her own baby, she agreed to look after it because it was family and... Cmon it was a baby!

I LOVE DARIA! I have a photo of myself when I was really young that was taken after I had been really sick. To the point I had lost weight. In the photo I look identical to my late mother and if I were to slim down again would most likely bare a resemblance to her again. The only difference is that my chest is 3 times the size as what my mom's was. Though had she been eating better she would have seen an improvement, which my theory was true it did happen just before her death. My mother till the day she died still didn't understand how she and my dead beat father made me due to being nothing like either of them at all, but knows I wasn't switched at birth because she says I look like my father, I flatly don't see that and have proof with the earlier mentioned photo which proves I look more like my mom. I was also 3.3 times her weight at the time of her death, leading people to believe we were either sisters, friends, or lesbians. The "Daria is Aunt Amy's daughter" theory's a popular one in certain Daria fan circles from my personal experience. Obviously, there's no credible evidence of this shown within the series. Besides showing that Amy is another part of Daria's family, she also exists to show more of how Helen's family relations are strained with the Barksdales beyond her grudge with Rita. The episode, Aunt Nauseam, shows Amy can be no different from Helen and Rita with having personal flaws, much in the same way Daria starts to realize flaws to her cynical streak in Seasons 3-5.
I have a Daria theory. Helen & Jake have actually been married twice. Here is how it goes: We never se Quinn in Beavis and Butt-head becouse she was currently living with another parent in a different town. When Jake and Helen get back togheter they have enough money to move out of Highland and into Lawndale. Tell me what you think.
and why would you have expected to see quinn in an episode of beavis and butthead...? it never revolved around Daria to begin with (not to mention each episode being a total of 12 minutes each.)
Daria is older than Quinn. Possibly by 2 years. I always pictured Daria as a Junior and Quinn as a freshman. Therefore, if Daria was a Freshman in Beavis and Butthead, it is completely logical that you wouldn't expect Quinn to be in it, as she wouldn't be high school age yet.
Quinn is the one who looks like she was adopted in my opinion, I mean, where did she get that red hair from, not to mention that she resembles Rita’s daughter Erin more than she resembles her parents or Daria. Daria looks more like her parents then Quinn!
Also Daria probably will move to a broader city and be part of the cosmopolite educated class, attend art galleries, meet literary people, organize music festivals, etc... while queen will marry some high school jock who will slowly decline to become a regular loser, get pregnant, never leave her hometown and never leave the working class. So I kind of understand queen's "rejection" for Daria.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree is a saying I hate. I grew up in a dysfunction family and I kind of have the same personality as Daria before knowing of Daria. Being eccentric is always a chance regardless of your family heritage.

Queen actually is jealous of Daria. Because Daria always is indifferent towards her parents, yet her parents love her and actually pay a lot of attention to her more than they do to queen. So queen's strategy to get her parents attention is being outgoing and popular, but in reality she is not very smart, and Daria is. For instance, in the episode in which Daria and her sister go to check for college. Her parents realize how expensive it would be for them to send both of their daughters to college so her father comes with the idea of sendind Daria to college and Queen to the hair styling school, proof that Daria's parents actually believe more in Darias future than Queen's. Also the whole show is about Daria, and Queen is only a secondary Character. So my hypothesis is that Queen is actually jealous of Daria for being her father's favorite.
Quinn admitting Daria is her sister doesn't debunk the theory as she is younger and didn't witness Helen's pregnancy. However I do think the theory is lacking evidence.

My problem with hidden elements in tv shows, movies ect. like that is why have elements like that and not use them.That is why I always call bs on them , if they are not included during their run and if after the shows or movies are done those theories are not used.I think it comes from people looking for way too much meaning in their fictional entertanment.

1. Daria's mum actually took in Daria because she didn't want her to end up being adopted out of the family , reflecting badly on them. Helen has seemed image concious through out what i've seen.
2. Daria and Amy look just way to alike to be just aunt and niece
3. Quinn could not have been told about Daria being adopted.

If Amy were Deedee's(my nickname for Daria) birth mom, then Amy could have taken Deedee back when she was more financially stable.

The "Daria is Aunt Amy's daughter" theory's a popular one in certain Daria fan circles from my personal experience. Obviously, there's no credible evidence of this shown within the series. Besides showing that Amy is another part of Daria's family, she also exists to show more of how Helen's family relations are strained with the Barksdales beyond her grudge with Rita. The episode, Aunt Nauseam, shows Amy can be no different from Helen and Rita with having personal flaws, much in the same way Daria starts to realize flaws to her cynical streak in Seasons 3-5.

I have a Daria theory. Helen & Jake have actually been married twice.
Here is how it goes:
We never se Quinn in Beavis and Butt-head becouse she was currently living with another parent in a different town. When Jake and Helen get back togheter they have enough money to move out of Highland and into Lawndale.

and why would you have expected to see quinn in an episode of beavis and butthead...? it never revolved around Daria to begin with (not to mention each episode being a total of 12 minutes each.)
Daria is older than Quinn. Possibly by 2 years. I always pictured Daria as a Junior and Quinn as a freshman.
Therefore, if Daria was a Freshman in Beavis and Butthead, it is completely logical that you wouldn't expect Quinn to be in it, as she wouldn't be high school age yet.
Quinn is the one who looks like she was adopted in my opinion, I mean, where did she get that red hair from, not to mention that she resembles Rita’s daughter Erin more than she resembles her parents or Daria. Daria looks more like her parents then Quinn!
This is a decent theory, however I find it hard to believe...
Also Daria probably will move to a broader city and be part of the cosmopolite educated class, attend art galleries, meet literary people, organize music festivals, etc... while queen will marry some high school jock who will slowly decline to become a regular loser, get pregnant, never leave her hometown and never leave the working class. So I kind of understand queen's "rejection" for Daria.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree is a saying I hate. I grew up in a dysfunction family and I kind of have the same personality as Daria before knowing of Daria. Being eccentric is always a chance regardless of your family heritage.

I don't believe this theory either but as far Amy calling Helen a tightly wound pain in the ass, that's pretty much true. I don't care if she saved the world from nuclear holocaust, she's still a tightly wound pain in the ass and Amy was honest enough to say so despite what her good qualities might be.
Well, since Amy is Helen's YOUNGER sister, she probably did her fair share of annoying Helen as well as a kid.

Queen actually is jealous of Daria. Because Daria always is indifferent towards her parents, yet her parents love her and actually pay a lot of attention to her more than they do to queen. So queen's strategy to get her parents attention is being outgoing and popular, but in reality she is not very smart, and Daria is.
For instance, in the episode in which Daria and her sister go to check for college. Her parents realize how expensive it would be for them to send both of their daughters to college so her father comes with the idea of sendind Daria to college and Queen to the hair styling school, proof that Daria's parents actually believe more in Darias future than Queen's.
Also the whole show is about Daria, and Queen is only a secondary Character.
So my hypothesis is that Queen is actually jealous of Daria for being her father's favorite.
Quinn admitting Daria is her sister doesn't debunk the theory as she is younger and didn't witness Helen's pregnancy. However I do think the theory is lacking evidence.
