I'm glad you are enjoying my videos! Good luck with your swap! It's nice to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to Powerstroke Swap a truck. Everybody seems to want to Cummins swap them. Thank for watching!
Yeah, got the engine out, and the 7.3 set back in, in 1 day, plus took a break to visit with my wife's grandparents when they stopped by. Its all nuts and bolts. Once you figure out how to take those trucks apart, they really aren't bad to work on. Everything comes apart in large pre-assembled pieces.
Thank you very much! I still have some plans for it. I hope to have some more videos out soon. I just bought a house and have been busy getting moved in.
Just found you today! Good looking 7.3L! I had the engine being built when the market crashed in 08 and lost it. Moved on to four more gas powered trucks since then. Still have the 96 and need to find another 7.3L DTI for it. Put 10K in truck before losing engine. Have you ever thought about running twin turbos? Had them on mine and WOW what a difference! Smoked a Corvette in Las Vegas years ago. It was only an 1/8th mile yet surprised him! I'll be following tour channel now! I too like to tinker on vehicles! Thanks Daryl
Daryl, thank you for watching! Sorry about your loss of the engine.. hope you can make another one soon! I'm not really interested in compounds on this truck. But I can imagine they are fun!
Jeffrey, Thanks for watching. I am currently editing episode #6 "Intercooler install". I pull the dash in episode 7. It is cool how that dash comes out as an assembly. After you pull a few of them, you can have them out in less than an hour. Glad you figured it out!

These videos have been awesome! I would love to do the same thing to a 460 truck that I have had my eye on for quite awhile. If I get the chance to pick it up I think I will consider doing the 7.3 swap to it. I don't have a big understanding about diesel trucks, but think if I dove into it I might be able to figure it out. I look at the price of a cclb 7.3 and it just seems a bit out of my price range. I have considered this idea of doing the swap on a truck thinking it might be cheaper to do. When it comes down to it would doing a swap like this be cheaper than buying a 7.3 truck? The price on these OBS fords seem like they are sky high! Thanks for the videos. Keep it up!
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you like my videos. Yes OBS 7.3 trucks are insanely high priced. I got my donor truck for $1800 out of Copart. I would say it is cheaper to swap if you start with a good truck, and get a good, complete donor truck. You really need 2 good trucks to make 1 really good truck. The diesel stuff is easier than the gas stuff, there is fewer sensors, and less electronics.... diesels really are a "dumb" engine, they just run!
@@mygarage. Yeah I have my eye on a cclb 460 truck that hopefully I can pick up and then I found a donor truck for a thousand bucks that would be perfect. Where did you get your new 7.3 Power Stroke Engine from and How much did it cost? Did you put bigger Rods and Bearings in it to put out more horse power?!
This isn't a new engine. I bought a 1997 donor truck and used the parts from that. I didn't change anything on the long block, they come from Ford with forged crank and rods. It should be able to hold the power it's producing.
Great video. Very informative. What material did you use to heat insulate the fire whaal and the ac box? I have a 1980 Chevrolet C 10 pickup truck. I am playing with the idea of putting in a 7.3 powerstroke in it. It came from factory with an 350 Oldsmobile diesel in it. I could have put in a GM 6.5 turbodiesel in it and convert it to a mechanic injection ( DS4 to DB2 injection pump). But that engine do not like high boost pressure and high horsepower. To make a GM 6.5 to hold high boost pressure and tune it beyond 350 + horsepower you must have a high budget, it comes with high cost. A 7.3 powerstroke you can tune it up to 500 horsepower on stock bottom engine. That is why I am thinking of a 7.3 powerstroke. And yes, I also know of a Cummins 5.9 12 valve. Connect 1 wire and you are good to go. But I like V 8 engines much better. What scares the shit out of me is all the wiring one must do i order to make the engine run. My car do not have any ECU connectors from before. But it came with an automatic transmission and the steering wheel gear shifter. When that time to put in a powerstroke engine I am thinking of putting in a automatic transmission. I am not sure if I can use the original steering wheel shifter to operate the powerstroke transmission. That I do not know. I have never done any engine swaps before. But I am a fast learner and I understand wiring diagrams with a little thinking involved. I know I also can ask people if I come across any problems when it comes to the engine swap. What do you think of my plans? Is it doable?
The GM 5.7 diesel is a joke of an engine. Throw that thing in the garbage!😆 I used a fiberglass adhesive backed insulation that I got off of Amazon.com. if you have a donor truck the swap will be easier. You can take all the wiring and go through the harness and keep only what is needed. The rest of the wires that tie into the dash are for warning lights and gauges. You can run a column shift on a 4R100 you will just need to make linkage that fits.
@@mygarage. I am not sure. But I think in my case a floor shifter would be better option. I like to shift gears manually. I a forum I have read you can cut in one wire and splais it with two wires. Then I can shift gears manually. Or I can buy a US Shift Quick 4 Gen2 Stand-Alone Transmission Control System and shift gears via two shifts knobs. Since I like manually shifting I might install a ZF S5-42 transmission instead of a automatic transmission.
