While I was stationed there in 2015 -2021 my buddies and I would go to ride the horses until one day I spooked one and got kicked. I thought I broke my pelvis but thankfully I was okay and just bruised badly. I absolutely miss living in Aomori and hope to return soon. The Hells gate was a great experience, most Japanese steer clear of the area because of what it represents. I think the lake on the mountain was the highlight of that. it was crystal clear and the most beautiful blue I've seen. Aomori in general is beautiful so everyone stationed there should get out and experience the nature and culture.
