Pretty informative content, we are about to start to play the game with a group of friends. Couldn't yet figure out how we could turn any of the characters into a ranged healer/support. Could you please advise?
There is no real healer class in the game but you can give life regen to everyone close to you. All of the benefitial buffs to team mates come from Auras. You really want a character with increased aura effects close to mana reservation efficency. Probably the best support ascendancy in the game is the guardian. It gives loads of binuses to allies and party members. Going all out support can make the character slow to level, this will be fine if you're leveling with friends too, if not you will probably want to get to maps without the auras and move into them later. www.poewiki.net/wiki/Guardian For a team tank also with aura effect buffs the champion is probably a decent pick. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Haven't played PoE, but PoE2 looks amazing and got me thinking to try PoE1. Did I miss the train or does the assumed drop in community for PoE1 not have much impact?
No there is a lot in poe 1 that will prepare you for poe2. Only a lot of the poe 2 mechanics have had theree nnussacary complexity simplified. That said PoE2 is way more difficult based on the first day of early access. Welcome to the game and hope you enjoy it as mnuch as I do.
I am new to the game, wanted to play a magic caster BUT a male one. Is there a way to start with a templar and use staff/wands to become a decent caster?
Yes, Templar or Shadow are both good choices for caster. Templar is more on the elemental side. Shadow works best with physical based spells. Hope this helps!
Started playing the game about a month ago on my XBox Series S. I'm currently on the second half of the Acts (somewhere around 6 or 7?), having started with a Shadow/Trickster. One of the things this video doesn't seem to touch on is that, with all the seeming overlap of themes and specialties among classes, is whether there are any reasons to, say, pick a hybrid attribute character to start a build with as opposed to the pure/single attribute characters? Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places or for the wrong search terms, but I can't seem to find anything that the Trickster does which can't apparently be done better by other classes and their own ascendencies.
Trickster is really good for high sustain and defensive builds. It is the ultimate anergy shield tank in the game. If you want high survivability on life go jugg or champions, for es it's trickster. It's also the smoothest trapper miner if you go sab. Assassin is nowhere near as strong as it used to be though.
[On the topic of Ascendancy choices] Assassin certainly doesn't seem strong right now, but it was (at the very least, to me) more obvious as to what it did as the premier Critical Strike ascendancy. Without having played it myself, it still stuck out as "Pick this if you are building around Critical Strikes". Saboteur was clearly "the Traps and/or Mines Guy". [On the Shadow, as a whole] Before Ascendancy comes into play, is there actually any advantage to starting as the Shadow over the other classes? Or should builds always start with a plan for Ascendancy? Perhaps that's part of my initial downfall, the cause for my confusion; I started the game and picked a character semi-blind, with no real game plan beyond "have fun applying DoT's because Shadows apparently love poisons, and get your elemental resistances capped to ensure you can survive each Act." For further context: I had no idea what skills I wanted to focus on, and my socketed skill gems are still a bit of a schizophrenic mess after my first encounter against Kitava.
@@kylenguyen7371 Ascenadancies should always be considered for a build as in most cases these will be huge buffs to damage or qol. It definately isn't the only factor though. Keystones and notaables also need to be considered. If you want Chaos dot top right has biggest concentartion. Phys damage over time bottom left. I do have a video where I talk about the thoughts I run through when designing a build here : ruclips.net/video/hQQSXXZ5-Ec/видео.html Hope it helps!
@@kylenguyen7371 Nothing is really necessarily better or worse as a matter of being hybrid or not- though I think the life/armor and spell type gems are most straightforward, so I think champion (as life/armor/evade... preferably still with a skill that doesn't depend on weapon too much) and templar (as life/armor/spell gems) are a good starter for a new player. Energy shield is a bit jank until you get some stuff to help it restart/regenerate quickly and a big pool of it- a lot of people will level their ES builds as life and switch to ES later. So as that is one of trickster's main things, it might feel a bit lackluster for you in acts. Also I think hybrid is easier to work with in terms of equipment rolling and gems socketing, as the requirements for most equipment and gems is actually pretty low- so hybrid stat can equip most stuff pretty easily whereas the non-hybrid is stacked so much in one stat that it might have issues using off-stat stuff. And until pretty late game or with very particular builds, all that excess primary stat tends to not actually be doing too much. But it's really just a matter of the meta. They nerfed inquisitor (str/int) a couple leagues ago- both directly, and as a matter of changes to everything else... it had about 20% usage. Now it's down to 4%. Juggernaut (pure str) was about 1% a couple leagues ago- but afaik, a certain build for it got much more popular and it was up to almost 20% a few weeks into the league (and has since dropped down to about 10% as more and more deadeyes get geared up)
Can anyone tell me how to turn on auras and what they even are? Reading a witch build and it says “make sure to turn on your auras before doing any content” I can’t find it
Auras are just like any other active skill gem, except when you activate them they reserve your mana. So once you have something like Determination socketed you can just hit the key, your available mana will drop and you will be getting the buff. A bit I strongly disagree with is following a build for your first playthrough. You should have fun and f around at least on your first playthrough since campaign on it's own is quite easy, especially if you're taking your time exploring game and it's mechanics. And a huge trap people fall into is comparing themselves with very experienced players and getting demotivated. Try to avoid minmaxing your gameplay to keep up with them and take game in at your pace, this game is grossly overcomplicated as it is anyway.
I think our experiences may have been different. When I first started PoE I got so lost and bewildered with my lack of a build that could do anything that I gave up in act 2. Two leagues later I came back followed a guide and it helped me understand a lot more and also just scratched the surface of how much great complexity this games has which gives you build diversity and from that point I was hooked. I think if I had watched some basic guides maybe it wouldn't have been so bad. I think its a very hard game to start without any kind of guide like material, even if it's not a full on build guide. Thanks for your thoughts and for watching!
I strongly agree with "play your own music". I take inspiration from other peoples builds and watched a lot of videos to gain some understanding of the games mechanics (Skills and especialy the many different support skills). Once you understand SYNERGY is key, it clicks. You are looking for Synergy between your skillgems/supportgems with your Skilltree and the gear. Experiemt and find your prefered playstyle by yourself, nobody can teach you what is fun for you and what not. Once you found it, it's easy to walk your own path. A huge help for me in the beginning was strictly playing all by myself without trade. Solo Selffound (you unlock the SSF gamemmode by completing act 3). Work with what you have, this way you also learn how to craft, and you build around that along the way. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, it's still just a game, have fun 🙂
i wanna add to this that as a new player i've been doing exactly that, just fucking around on the skill tree which is a ton of fun. the thing is that i've noticed that i'm hitting a wall where going further is very complicated since i've been mixing multiple functionalities and found that the game doesn't always provide me reliable ways of combining them and i'm not experienced enough to figure them out on my own which is why i've now decided to look up this video. i'm absolutely not going to minmax my gameplay and play meta just to not run into that issue, but with the help of this video i decided to give the templar a try since i think it's just going to be more fun for me overall. so what i'm really doing is minmaxing my fun :p
It is quite the challenge in the beginning… 😂. I tried it yesterday but died over and over. And that was only when trying to unlock the first 2 waypoints. So today we are starting over and watching a few videos.
early act 1 is somehow very easy to die in. as a new player, like all but one of my characters have died before reaching prison (the only one that survived is a second run with ranger). probably just because I’m bad at the game lol (only got a ranger through acts out of 4 characters, and it was with a build guide) makes sense why it’s so easy to die though; low defences from gear, low skill points, lack of skill gems and link sockets so you might not be able to nuke everything
@@TheOneWhoHasABadNameThe mudflats is probably one of the hardest areas in the campain. Act 1 had deliberate changes to make it harder a few leagues ago. Used to be a lot easier. Thanks for stopping by.
i love a game that advertises itself as always free to play, never pay to win. So i am currently downloading it. First imma do what i always do and try to create a character that can closely resemble Kirito's fighting style. Dual longswords, fast attacks, decent speed/evasion, no magic or elemental attacks. Then imma play legit if that fails horribly by just choosing witch and going for horde clearing. This is all if we assume I will even play regardless of how complicated the game looks.
@@Altek2k I ended up choosing duelist, so far was able to defeat the prison boss guy, and two other small bosses. This game is nowhere near as confusing as everywhere and everyone made it seem. Only con of the game so far is the loss of mapping of an area once you leave it. Having to reveal the whole area again is tedious, but ah well. thank you for the suggestion btw, im excited to see if im able to make it to endgame as a completely new player. :)
Started a couple years ago with some friends on the Shadow thinking it'll be fine like any other rpg out there you choose whatever and it works out, boy was i wrong, in the past 3 weeks or so i was bored, gave this another try cuz the first time i honestly hated the game(understandable given both my mistakes aswel as the game's lack of new player friendliness), i now started with the witch and i am having a blast with elemental dmg and the Elementalist ascend, i agree it's the most new player friendly given you can deal dmg from the distance with the press of buttons if you have auto aiming spells like arc and such, it can be overwhelming for new players to go up close and personal and the other classes need a bit more game understanding too. Now if you'll excuse me imma go to the skill gems vid cuz there are things idk entirely yet. 😂😂

Ah, Path of Exile. The game I have technically completed once and have over 350 hours spent in, and yet I still feel like a complete beginner. Any tips for how to better understand the skills and trees in this game? Every build I try to make myself ends up as a boring one skill spam character.
I have a redicoulous number of hours and still feel new to the game. The best waty I found to learn the tree and game is to follow a guide then try to tweak it and constantly improve it. Then after a league or two build something following a similar tree, You will soon learn what works and doesn't.
It can work depending on the build, but It will never be the best at stright meele. Thanks for watchingf!
what is the class that was using the rapier with the magical dagger?
I would think that that was the duelist. Thanks for watching!
@@Altek2k that looks to be a massive help! Thank you so much; i'll give that video a watch/listen on my way to and from work.
You should have fun and f around at least on your first playthrough since
campaign on it's own is quite easy, especially if you're taking your time exploring game and it's mechanics.
And a huge trap people fall into is comparing themselves with very experienced players and getting demotivated.
Try to avoid minmaxing your gameplay to keep up with them and take game in at your pace,
this game is grossly overcomplicated as it is anyway.
Such amazing videos
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
It is quite the challenge in the beginning… 😂. I tried it yesterday but died over and over. And that was only when trying to unlock the first 2 waypoints. So today we are starting over and watching a few videos.
Act 1 is really suprisingly tough. I still die to it occasionally. Thanks for watching and don't give up!
early act 1 is somehow very easy to die in. as a new player, like all but one of my characters have died before reaching prison (the only one that survived is a second run with ranger). probably just because I’m bad at the game lol (only got a ranger through acts out of 4 characters, and it was with a build guide)
makes sense why it’s so easy to die though; low defences from gear, low skill points, lack of skill gems and link sockets so you might not be able to nuke everything

Hope you enjoy it. For fast duel swords, berserker or slayer will probably be best bet.
@@Altek2k I ended up choosing duelist, so far was able to defeat the prison boss guy, and two other small bosses. This game is nowhere near as confusing as everywhere and everyone made it seem.

I find it really annoying to try and party while levelling through the acts, purely because of the different speeds that people run. But end game is pretty good for a group.
