Until I talk myself into upgrading, I mostly use an Aston Origin, which I think is a great value but is still a lower budget mic. And I've got a handful of vocal plugins that I go out and grab when I see sales happening. All that's to say that even with a slightly better mic and a couple extra tools in the kit, it's still helpful to see you do this kind of work with the stock plugins! Watching tutorials with loads of plugins I don't have dropped into the chain always makes me wonder if I'm fooling myself trying to get a comparable tone. Thanks for the video!
It's refreshing to see even a professional like u getting frustrated using a cheapo mic hahaha. My vocal chain is pretty much the same as yours, except i don't use any gate plugin, coz' i simply don't know how to use it. Of course, the differences in quality between yours n mine is like north n south (new idiom?). I hope u'll get well soon. Drinks lotsa water n do some light exercise probably will help u feel better.
Dawg said if you’re using a $25 dollar mic you’re probably not using $1000’s worth of software umm no I wouldn’t pay that in general honestly $25 mic or not 😂
Different mics are also creative tools, a cheaper mic may pocket the mix better or at least differently so you can try things you wouldn't normally do if it stayed in the same place every time. This video perfectly demonstrates this.
Did you tried using asioforall driver? Y record constantly using usb mics into my daw and I don’t have the need to use voice meter (I use reaper as daw)
Now this is the kind of video I've been waiting for! I have a ~$50 USB mic from Thomann. It's their own brand called T-Bone (SC 440) and I've been using it for years now and you can get a pretty nice vocal out of it in the right room setup but the interference and hum is a bit annoying so a lot of noise reduction is required which eats some of the sound quality as well.
It would be cool if you could do the same thing with a Shure SM58. A classic live vocal mic that is less than $100 and doesn't have the self-noise problem of a cheap condenser. Or a decent quality budget condenser like a Audio-Technica AT2020 that is in the same price range. Those mics should be affordable for just about everyone without sacrificing quality.
I misread the title and thought everything in the entire song was stock! lol I was like DAMMNN.. dude your productions always sound absolutely killer. I've learned so much from your videos; your awesome!
it would be nice to see this kind of thing with the behringer XM8500. its an XLR dynamic thats like $25 and is pretty much the go to for a really cheap but decent mic in a budget setup. I've heard good things about it but ive never seen anyone try to get a professional sound out of it for a mix. also i hope you feel better soon!
It's pretty similar to the sm58 and plenty of people have recorded vocals on that. Bjork has used the sm58 all over her albums. You could absolutely get professional sound out of it.

Haven't even watched the whole video yet, and you've already got my like!
Very nice vid

Hi great video. I want you to ask if akg p220 is good enough for professional recording/release with Scarlett 2i2?
The raw vocal at the start was never a cheap microphone

Yeah I've got 180$ MLX mic that's good for some stuff, my main mic is 1100$ nuemann, but the MLX is nicer on some stuff strangely

Yeah, the time and attention it takes to make mics in this price range can be INTENSE 😂
@@MakePopMusic Yeah when I watched your last video the difference is so clear. The more expensive mic sounds so balanced even untreated.

Really helpful, definitely interested in more compare content to demonstrate what things should & shouldn’t sound like - thank you!

Hahaha nah but I have done that! Go check the Cubase channel and I have a 3 video series where I make an entire track with stock plugins and sounds!
The raw vocal at the start was never a cheap microphone
Yes it was. It was a $25 usb mic from Amazon lolol

If i wasent using Studio one i would use Cubase.
Can definitely hear the difference, and yes, I would agree it's best to save up. If you take care of a good mic it will last you a lifetime.
Amazing video as always!
'Honky midtone' lol
I can say that since I’m a white guy
@@MakePopMusic perfectly describes me lol
Hi we need a video about acoustics. been hitting alot of problems due to recoding in a basement. Now im building vocal booth
