Regrettably, back in those ancient days (I graduated in 1970) they taught reading and writing rather than speaking (for a very funny take on this issue, check out Hortense Calisher's story whose title is a phonetic rendition of Verlaine's "Il pleure dans mon coeur"). Reed and Knight made a great pair.

When I first learned this song, I was amazed to find out that the endorsement racket long pre-dates radio and TV. Plus ca change, etc.
