I used this product on a fence when I purchased a home with a fence that needed staining and was badly faded. That was almost 3years ago and it still looks great and the wood has been very well protected. I live in NM so it is dry and sunny. I used a pump sprayer. Used a little extra to ensure that I got it all. Very happy with the results. Dont forget to cover the floor if you are staining in an area where the floor is importan such as concrete etc.

EFC-38 is a cleaner and stripper in one. It will remove most oil based finishes. We also have a heavy duty stripper for tougher jobs. Most deck cleaners are simply detergents and will not remove existing stains or sealers.

I thought the cleaner and neutralizer worked great. The stain did not apply well with a pump sprayer, so I dug up my electric one. It is especially for stains, and I highly recommend one. Their timber oil was very nice, but did not give me anywhere near the coverage it said it would. It was so expensive that I ended up just trying to find the closest match at the Ace hardware store. The fence doesn't look that consistent in color, but we are planting in beds in front of it anyway.

Usually 15 min of dwell time is long enough.
If you scratch the suface in a few areas and can easily get to clean wood it is ready to rinse.

Thank you for your comments. While staining the wood is an important final step, the preparation of the wood is key to the longevity of any wood finish. We took the time to identify and introduce all of the steps, prior to showing the actual process. This may not be the most exciting approach, but we felt it helps the viewer understand what they are seeing in the process.
If you prefer to skip right to the "action" it begins at 2:50 into the video.

Overall, I think the quality of my work with these products (based on this very helpful video) was better than the fence guy I would have used. He bid $435 for 97 lineal feet of fence and was not going to powerwash or really clean it off.

Hi, I'm going to be staining my deck with either a oil or water based solid stain. My question is will i need to apply a primer to the deck first before i apply the solid stain? I was told that a solid stain will not soak into the deck boards and that's why a primer is needed. Also can you apply a second coat to solid stains whether it be oils or water base?

Does the efc38 remove old stains, or do you need to use a striping agent also? If it does remove the old stain, do all cleaners remove old stains or only some?
