Mother of four and slow living advocate here 🙋🏼‍♀️ I’ve found there are 3 main areas I focus on to allow me to live more intentionally as a busy mum and have a slower paced life.
    1. is our finances, we do our best to live within our means and try and stay debt free which allows for more freedom over our time.
    2. is clutter, staying on top of decluttering really reduces my stress as a mother (especially in a small house) and allows more time to focus on the good stuff! 😊
    3. Finally is our schedules, I try not to overload mine or the kid’s schedules with extra curricula stuff, as I’ve found when we’re all really busy we are less connected and we all then find it harder to see the beauty in the ordinary ❤
Thanks for another fab video Kay 😊xxx

Another pregnant mama-to-be here, really recommend watching Blake Livelys speech on child protection online together as a couple before discussing sharing baby online, this totally changed things for me and especially considering the statistcs from that video were before AI/deepfakes. It's uncomfortable and upsetting to learn about but really really important to inform yourself on as a parent! I'm baffled that YT/Insta/Tiktok etc don't have strict rules about sharing childrens faces online.
There's also a question of consent, children can't consent to us sharing their life/images online that will create a permanent digital footprint that will follow them into their adult life/careers and that should be a bigger conversation too!
Kalyn nicholson has talked about this journey as an influencer a lot and has nailed it imo!
It's difficult b/c they're so cute and we want to share them with the world and views may change post-birth but these are def things to consider - currently we're planning on using Family Album to securely share photos with people we trust!

The best thing you can do is take it one day at a time. No day with kids is ever the same. Routine is helpful, but you still have to be flexible enough to face the changes. And no child is the same as the other. Our boys are very different from each other. What counts the most is time spent with them. You're going to be a great Mum!❤

Honestly the first few weeks to a month will be harder but that’s only cause you’re having to find your feet and reorganise your time but once you’ve got a routine that works for you I’m sure you’ll still be able to continue slow living. So happy for you boys are really the best and it’ll be beautiful for you and dom to see the relationship that develops between your human baby and your feline babies

I 100% think that slow living is a mindset rather than a physical change to the activities and things. I have a 2 year old who is ALWAYS on the go, my time is always stretched and life can be chaotic at times. I just trying be mindful and bring myself back to being present. I try to imagine that I'm old and have come back to visit this moment and think "what would I soak up?" My son's smile, his eyelashes, the way he holds a pencil, how he checks to see if I'm laughing when he's being goofy... slow living is possible! You have to look for it.

Cats and new baby. You will know what’s best for you. Read all the suggestions and take what is best for you. My suggestion is if you are away from home for a couple of days have a blanket with the baby’s smell on it home before the baby comes home and let the cats start to know his smell. Talking about being prepared, you will be! If you find anything physical you need you can purchase it when you need it. As far as being prepared to be a mom take it day by day. You already love him and that’s the biggest thing. I’m a grandmother and I can still remember things my first born did that I was like “what do I do now”. And that was to follow my mothers instincts and ask a seasoned mom her opinion. I’m so excited for you and Don.

Aw 😊 Just finished catching up and was lovely to hear you answer all these questions with so much joy and happiness in your voice and rightly so! 😊 - I’d often felt that my husband was left out of so much when we were expecting and the congratulations seemed to always be directed it me. Which is lovely I guess but it takes two to make a baby 😂 - If I was to do anything differently it would be to have him noticed and heard more. Don’t get me wrong he was a very hands on Daddy but I feel I can’t remember much about how he really felt and so we had this discussion last night while going over his speech for our daughters wedding. How time has flown when we look back. And yes, you are so right, nothing prepares you for becoming a parent 😊 - But it’s the single and most amazing ‘job’ I have ever had. I never imagined I’d ever get to be so lucky as I always thought I’d inherit my mothers genetic disease which would have changed my thoughts on children forever. Every day I am truly thankful and I am so grateful that I got to bring them into the world and watch them grow. Don’t get me started on them beginning to fly the nest! That’s a whole long long away for you both. Advice? - Cherish every moment, take the photographs and make precious family memories. 😊

We would love to visit the national parks in America too! Also...nursery/mancave... 😂🤣 love it!! I think slow living is possible with children. Like you say, you can incorporate small intentional moments into each day. I have an 19 month old daughter, and I started making my own bread and growing veggies...things I love and my daughter can help with! Keep it simple, like bringing flowers into the home or lighting a candle. You don't need to bring everything back into your life straight away after having a baby. All those things you love doing will come back into your life again if you want them to. And how wonderful it will be for your child/ren to see you investing your time and energy into something you love. They'll learn so much from that!

We’ve got 3 bedrooms but one is Will’s office, so technically only two used as bedrooms. D is 19 months & still cosleeping with me 😂 Her nursery was a waste haha BUT it’s beautiful & meant she had a place for all her stuff. It’s only now that we’re expecting #2 that we’re reassessing our space & considering moving the office up to the loft & utilising having a 3rd bedroom. You’ll be just fine in the space you have 😊

You’re looking so wonderful and well Kay. I’m so happy for you and Dom .. you will both be fabulous parents. With the cats, I think getting them used to smells etc is much better than separating them from the baby .. if they’re used to sleeping with you and have full run of the house .. if that were to suddenly change, they will resent the baby.
In terms of extra space, I agree .. you don’t need a bigger house .. your home and garden is just beautiful .. I’m sure you and Dom have already considered this .. but you could convert the loft into a parents retreat with your own bathroom etc and for Dom to keep on racing .. you could turn that open part of the shed into a man cave for him 😊. Loving your journey and so happy that everything you’ve always wanted is coming to fruition. xxx

Yep! Good to flexible with a birth plan - both of mine went out of the window! First one overridden by the midwife; second overridden by the baby who decided he was cooked five weeks early - so I had no choice but the Maternity Unit
I expect your cats know you’re pregnant - mine used to rest her head on my bump and purr at it. I put the baby on the floor when we got home, she skirted round it for a few moments, then got bold and had a good sniff - then the purring started. She put up with a lot of man-handling once he was mobile too .... very good-naturedly
Sounds like you’re coming along nicely

Thank you for sharing! To prepare for birth, I really like Bridget Taylor, she has a great channel and a course that's really comprehensive. There is actually some useful knowledge to have before giving birth and cope in the moment (for you and for how your spouse can support you), especially around breathing, knowing about your perineum, positions etc. Imo, especially of you're leaning towards an unmedicated birth, it can be super useful to have a sense of what could happen and what tools you and Dom could use to cope and get through. Even if you never know what will happen (for sure!), it can go a long way to gather some knowledge ❤ I loved the Mama natural book, Ina may guide to childbirth, and to learn about 4th trimester and pp as well. Can't wait to keep on following your journey 😊

PS: we live in Paris and when we had our 1st baby boy last year, we were living in a 1bd apartment! It was enough at first, and then we moved to a 2 bd when he was 6mo, so he could have his own room and we love it. From my perspective, having 2 bedrooms and a big downstairs and garden is heavenly 😉❤️😘

I worked in childcare for years before I got sick and it’s a very rewarding job however… the “system” ruins everything, it becomes very stressful because you find yourself doing constant paperwork and spending barely any time with the children because of it 😩 I found myself having to do paperwork from home some times too because I’d get so behind with it all. It’s a shame because really… we should be there to focus on the children but unfortunately it’s just not like that 😭
I think it’s amazing you’ve done so much in your life so far. I find adulthood so hard with trying to decide what we actually want to do in life haha
I’d love to reopen an Etsy shop. I had one whilst I was working selling crocheted items (film and tv stuff) nerdy stuff basically. I’m going to be making children’s stuff (educational and such) when I finally get the time to sit and make things again.

So if you’re going to have them shut out of the bedroom at night etc, practice before they come! Ours get really annoyed when a door is shut and can rip the carpet up, and that’s not something you want when you’ve got a baby! X

Babies do not need a bigger house, neither do older children. It’s been proven we only live in very limited parts of our homes and the rest is waste. I don’t know why it’s assumed we have to upgrade our space just because we are having kids. And not to mention, more to clean and less time… I have kids and cats so I would advice bring something to them after the baby is born that has his scent. Also, I strongly recommend keeping them out of the bedding or crib, it’s cute when there’s no baby in there but not so much when you are trying to keep them out all of a sudden once baby is there. The best birth plan is flexibility!!!! You will do great!

I see that in other countries 2 people live in a 60sqm home and they move to veeery big houses when they have kids, while where I live it's normal to have 4 people and sometimes more comfortably living in 60sqm. 2 rooms, a living room, a kitchen + dining room, a bathroom, and that's all you need, and a garden if possible.

Ragdolls are beautiful cats. Is Dom taking over litter box duty while you are expecting? I love kitties and I volunteer at a cat shelter in my city in New York State. I also feal with fibromyalgia and a knee injury caused Comllex Regional Pain Syndrome. I am a senior so these are challenging. My church and my cat are a great for me. I depend a lot on the LORD.

Hi Kay, since my last comment was deleted… not quite sure why as I was questioning the safety of another comment? please don’t put a new baby alone in their own room from birth. It is dangerous from a SIDs perspective and the poster writing that their baby slept through the night at day 3 gave dangerous thoughts and advice x

There is a fab UTube about a lovely lady in Italy called Kylie who has had a baby. She talks about him and experiences and only shows his hair on feet or back of the baby never the face

When I brought my second boy home from the hospital I let my kitty smell his hospital blanket then left baby in the car seat and let him smell him and tbh he really didn’t care. Had a sniff and left him alone even a month later he didn’t really go too close to him but would sit next to him but never climbed on him or anything which was something lots of people had warned me about but my kitty was very well behaved with my baby

Dear Kay, I don't want to judge and it's completely your choice, but if I were your son I wouldn't want my life to be shown on social media, without me being able to make that choice for myself. I understand that many parents have the urge to show the whole world how sweet and wonderful their children are, but I really worry about the childrens safty and privacy. I think while he is a tiny baby it would be safe to show pictures of him if you wanted to. But once he gets a bit older maybe find ways to include your mum-life in your videos and other social media without showing his face? What's on the internet stays on the internet...forever - and not only can kids at school be very cruel but there are also very bad adults out there 😞 I love you attitude towards the size of your house! It is so lovely and cosy and there really isn't any need for you to move to a bigger place just because you have a baby - there is plenty of room for the three - sorry, five!! - of you while he is still little. I'm sure you will know when it's time to move and that your're going to find a wonderful new home for that season of life. Lots of love

PS: I know exactly how you feel about your dad. I'm in a very similar situation with my mum - I love her very, very much, but it's a lot of weight being the only family a parent has left. Especially when they have health issues. ❤

I get what you mean. My 9 year old is grateful to me that I never even posted a baby pic of her online. She will decide later on if she wants an internet presence.

Kay one thing don't do.. Don't be a hovering mom .That's annoying to Others...Meaning don't be hovering over your mom or grandma, or friends that are holding him, like standing there, acting like they don't know how to hold a baby, or take care of him .
That happened to me..And never held that baby again.. And the mom knew it, it said right to her face .So I don't have a great relationship with that person because of that hovering .Now the kids are teenagers and I still don't have that with her anymore..

Don't be an overbearing relarive who wants to snatch the baby away from the mom either.
