Well done review. I backed this game. I was lucky enough to fall into a game group who was playing it on TTS and I’ve had my physical copy on the table a few times. Here are some thoughts. I haven’t tried it, but the online group played with three players, no AI, and they felt it worked fine. When I played with them, we played with a few house rules occasionally. No dragonbonding. The game still worked great without it, but the reactions were mixed on regularly playing with/without it. We also played with a two card minimum to reduce the one and pass play. It meant a longer game, but at least something would actually happen each round. A few more comments, particularly about the expansions. We enjoy the base game but it really shines with the five and six player expansion and the creatures expansion. The two new character types are really fun and the creatures are really cool. Heroes, Draconic offerings, and Lairs spice things up a bit. I taught my game group the base game and then we played with the expansions. They agreed with me that the game is better with the expansions.
Thank you for another great presentation. I like many of the mechanics that was presented. The selection of action cards, the Vaala cards, the simplified AI... All interesting concepts and I'll definitely try this game eventually!! Although it is very different, this first view gave me a vibe of Inis. I like those big war/territory control games with powers and different faction, Inis and Runewars come to mind. But these 2 other games have one thing that this one doesn't, and it's a modular map. maybe it's better this way, but I will have to play it to confirm. Since you should play every game with all 4 factions, there will definitely better moves and territory to control, that a modular map can minimize. But it creates other situation. Anyway, you peeked my interest, and I will play this game one day!! Have a great weekend.
