Elche or Elx is a town that belongs to the province of Alicante, Valencian Community. Located on the Vinalopó River, 23 kilometers south of Alicante, 15 kilometers kilometers away from the Mediterranean Sea. Elche has a population of about 230000 inhabitants, the third most populated city in the region, after Valencia and Alicante. With over its 1000 shoe factories, Elche is known as the main shoe making city in Spain. Elche is popular for its palm trees. The Elche Palm Grove is an orchard with over 200000 palm trees, it is the largest palm forest in Europe and is declared a World Heritage Site.
