- There is a trick to the assembly process that was shown to me. Isabelle's Parlour A Yarn Boutique showed me and suggested making a video of how the spindle goes on. She said she spent 45 minutes trying to figure it out.
This is not a paid sponsored video, so there are no commissions involved with the two below suggestions on where to buy one.
I got mine at Isabelle's www.isabellesp...
For more mainstream shopping, Herrschners sells it as well. www.herrschner...
If you have independent yarn shops near you, you can probably see if they have one or request one when they buy from Lykke.

What a unique piece of craftsmanship! Thanks Mikey for the demonstration. I will put this on my Christmas list. Meanwhile, the plastic one will have to do.😢
Looks so well made. Not plastic but wooden. Love it!
I laughed pretty hard when you said "oh. Sweetie. It has a crank" 😂
And if you keep that center strand out of the ball when you pull it off the spindle you have a perfect center-pull ball. No more fishing for the yarn end!!! Beautiful piece of equipment. So nice to treat yourself to quality tools!
I have a very similar one and found that after a time the bottom of the spindle where it hits in the cone would start slipping. You can put a great big rubber/elastic band around the bottom, the edge were it touches the cone or you can glue on a piece of rubbery elastic stretchy stuff, ex - piece of old rubber glove, old inner tube or rubber tourniquet. (The ones they use when getting a blood draw, they throw the out so I always keep mine for crafting.)
I have one loke this I picked up through Marly Bird awhile back. If not using for a while, they suggest to pull the rubber loop up. To take the tension off of it. It will extend the life of the rubber loop thing.
Thank you Mikey for the demo and info. Definitely going on my birthday list!
Dang, I just bought a ball winder to replace my old one. I will say that is one smart looking piece. I love the wood!! Thanks for sharing this with us!😄
I have the cheapo plastic yarn winder and now I NEED this one! LOL It looks like it works so much better and no annoying squeaks!
Wow, that's really very nice.
An absolutely beautiful winder! Thanks for the demo!
That’s awesome it’s beautiful
Awesome ball winder! I wish I had the space to attach one and leave it there. I don't use one often so the plastic thing will have to do for me.
So pretty! Love new toys! I splurged for Xmas a couple years ago and got a Stanwood 10oz.. it's amazing ! I love prepping my balls for projects! 😂
I have the same ball winder. I love my Stanwood.
Simply AHHHHMazzzing! Dang I need one of these. What a wonderful device and fabulous example of how it works. Thank you Mikey. You are absolutely divine! Much love from southeastern coastal NC
so nice to see an unboxing of this. i have the ball winder is the same plastic one but it irritates me with its noise and make my whole table shake xD, we all need some luxuries in our daily lives ;)
Mine arrived mostly assembled...and I found it difficult to use; hard and harsh. BUT...I took it apart, cleaned everything and oiled where necessary...and now it works like a dream.
Where to use the oil?
I just bought one of these. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. I bought a cheaper one that didn't come with instructions. But I got going and tada! I don't attach it to the table - at least not as yet. This is great. I'm still learning from you so I am glad you did this video. Thank you! ✌🏻💟😁🧶🇺🇸
So pretty!!! I may have to send a “hint” to my husband for my birthday….
WOW nice!!!😊
I always put a hair clip on the other strand with a tag from the ball. So it does not unravel and I have the tag from the yarn.. thank you for the great video
I open the paper that comes on the yarn to begin with and tape that to a little bit of paper to extend it and then tape it back around the ball. If a partial ball I can make notes on the bit of paper.
pre-strung price tags work well too.
Wonderful video --I love this..TY for the demo
White lithium grease for plastics works great on the cheap plastic ones to stop the squeak
That looks so pretty! ❤ And useful….
I don't technically need this, buuuttttt I want it
💯💯💯💯
It is beautiful ❤️
*sigh* Yes, I was One Of Those who thought "oh, a skein is just fine" but now, three years on, I really really want my yarn wound into balls. So I LYKKE! 😁 (Although you have to remember the colors on multis and ombres...)
My next investment. I have a plastic red and tan one but makes smaller balls. Need something to make bigger balls. 😂😂😂😂😂
Why not wind by hand they ask!? Work smarter not harder. Gives us more time for knitting or crocheting 😉
LOL
Ok, crazy question. I really have issues with the skeins you can buy at the store. (Yarn barf, its a thing) Does anyone wind the skeins with a yarn winder, or is that just a crazy me being weird thing?
Depends on the yarn, but I would if it is giving you trouble. Its actually quite relaxing to wind cakes and they store so easily with flat bottoms. No rolling off the table or your lap, nor the tangled mess of commercial skeins.
I do because I come across the same issue with yarn barf with some brands of yarn.
I do, but not because of yarn barf. I do it to check for factory knots and faults in the yarn. I like to have the issues taken care of before starting a project.
Only US $99! 😮 I need this. 💜
Ohhhhhhh…. Gorgeous!!!!!❤❤
Great instructions. My question is what is the little bottle for & where to use it?
He flashed a message on the screen around the 55 second mark that said it’s oil.
Thank you. I bought this for how beautiful it is. It works smoothly, but my yarn is tangled in the center and I ended up re-doing it all by hand. What am I doing wrong?
Interesting ‼️‼️‼️‼️
Something is wrong with my rubber loop. It keeps slipping off
Geniuses have messy tables.
Multiple tables 😂😂
Thank you my ball winder did not come with instructions 😂
Say "Luca" while shaping your mouth as if to say "Leeka."
Now you have pronounced the brand Lykke correctly. It is from the Finnish language, if I recall correctly?
It’s Norwegian for happiness. Close geographically, but very far apart in terms of language families. It does look very Finnish however. 😉
😊 gg😊😊
Learn how to make yarn balls
I don't understand.
@@TheCrochetCrowd I wind my own but not with a fancy winder
Lynn, I've always rolled yarn by hand, for 50 years at least. I finally bought a nice metal winder because frankly, I was sick of yarn barf, attacking cats and spending too much time hand winding! To each his own, I always say BUT... Don't knock someone else's idea. Especially when it's such a time saver and so much fun to do! 😉
I have one of these so called artisan yarn winders... Not happy about it... My cheap plastic winder does a better job
