      Nick Reed at first, I thought he meant “this is what it feels like to die.” After re-watching, I realize he meant “this is what it feels like to love. To have a family.”

      MagmaAscending I think "the most perfect night" scene was the most emotional one in the entire movie, it starts out so peaceful and quiet, until Xavier begins talking about how he killed people in Westchester, he doesn't even name any names because he was so afraid of remembering, and then it became peaceful again when Xavier tells Logan he finally understands him almost in relief, as if he has gotten over the death of the x men by getting it off his chest. Then the audience stare in horror as the familiar three blades pierce through his body.

    The saddest scene for me is Logan grieving Charle's death. Teared up more in that scene than the others. It must've sucked for Charles to get killed by someone he thought was Logan, his only friend left.

    erin is right about Charles killing the X-Men. they didn't directly state it but the scene right after the casino when they are on the road you can hear the radio talking about how a year earlier there was the same incident at the Westminister area with over 600 people and the death of several mutants including members of the X-Men. Logan shuts off the radio just as they say X-Men so Charles can't hear it. I love that they did it, just because its a tragic ending. Charles spent his whole life trying to save these mutants and form this team only to be the one that brought its downfall.

    The hinted at easter egg as to why the reavers/bad guys had to stop the children before they reached the US/Canadian boarder is because on the other side was the mutant team Alpha Flight (the group of mutant heroes Wolverine originally belonged too) Because they work directly FOR the Canadian government they couldn't cross the border to get the children, but if the reavers entered Canada hunting children, they would have been utterly destroyed by Canada's secret mutant-special forces.

    Utterly amazing movie. Brutal, shocking, heartbreaking, emotional rollercoaster... 10/10 for me.
    That final shot with the cross put a huge lump in my threat.
    Jackman was immense, best performance as Wolverine in his entire run. Stewart ruled everything as I expected but I couldn't believe how perfect Dafne was as Laura.

    I loved it. It was the perfect ending to and era of my life. As I get older, all of these franchises I grew up with are ending and that makes me sad. I liked that they took some pieces from different story lines in the comics but also made it their own.

      samanthachristine89 yes OLD MAN LOGAN storyline was big inspiration in this movie. I loved Logan’s character in this movie;grim violent but heartfelt. Logan is my favorite x men movie now.

  • @therandytomato5679
    @therandytomato5679 7 лет назад +13

    The whole killing the X-Men thing (Charles over Logan - they made it subtle, but that's definitely the case) was a really interesting and tragic reverse. Firstly, as you guys pointed out, in the comic that is the basis for this story it's Logan, not Charles who kills them - and the film plays on this (as well as introducing that idea of Logan's guilt to audiences unfamiliar with the comic - so most people watching it) when Charles says in his feverish state "Logan, what did you do?" after Logan says the mutants are all gone now.
    Then the subtle realization that it was in fact Charles, and he can't remember the incident hits so hard... hinted at first when Caliban is talking about him not being able to remember (thankfully) and the WMD comment from Donald Pierce. Then followed by the radio reference to an incident in Westchester that was similar to the hotel seizure (which Logan responds to by checking to see if Charles has heard then turns it off)... they even say "x-" just before the radio turns off.
    And the payoff comes with final confirmation made brutal by Charles himself remembering and confessing his guilt to what he thinks is Logan, immediately before being killed. Wow. Such a small, subtle part of this movie... and an indicator of how well conceived and put together this thing was. Loved it.

  • @xyrots
    @xyrots 7 лет назад +82

    It was Charles who killed the X Men, that's why Logan kept giving him medicine to forget what he did, and that's why they declared his brain a weapon of mass destruction because he also killed normal people with the seizure. I heard they originally wanted Sabertooth in the movie but scrapped it because they wanted Logan as the main character.
    James was his original name before he knew he was a mutant, in Origins after he kills his dad and realizes he's a mutant, he runs away with his brother but his brother calls him Jimmy from what I remember.

    • @xyrots
      @xyrots 7 лет назад

      Ohhh. I'm pretty sure he's just the reason why there aren't any more mutants born, I guess he killed the race, but didn't actually kill them

    • @Kizido
      @Kizido 7 лет назад

      How did he kill the race, but not kill them? They kept talking about the Westchester incident throughout the movie which is where the mansion was located. They also said Professor X had one of his seizures at the incident and some were killed and many were injured.

    The doctor Zandar Rice wasn't Stryker's son. Rice's father was Dr. Dale Rice, who was one of the scientists beside Stryker in Apocalypse. During his murder spree, Logan killed him offscreen while Stryker escaped in a helicopter.

    Logan's healing factor deteriorated because of the chemical in the corn syrup that killed off most of the mutants and is preventing mutants from being born. Because of his deteriorated healing factor, the adamanitum is poisoning him and killing him and also making his healing factor less effective, thus causing him to grow old. So, his healing factor greatly reduced. It was x2 less effective because of all this. It survived the thing that killed off mutants and kept him from completely dying from the adamantium inside of him and it simply prioritized keeping him alive rather than keeping him young and healthy. I mean.. that kinda just shows you how powerful his healing factor was.

    Also i never made the connection back to the wolverine movie in japan with "Yukio" is her name. Thank you Erik for opening my eyes to such a wonderful theory! And it really does make sense, there was blood everywhere, and the vision he had his heart in his hand when he died. His daughter would/could've been his heart.

    Zander Rice's father was not Stryker, his father was just someone who worked on the Weapon X project, and he was killed during Logan's rampage in X-Men: Apocalypse.

    Also Wolverines skull is covered in adamantium so Charles' powers are not as effective due to the barrier that's why the keep Charles in the water tower which helps him get resistance. if you watch that scene again laura is struggling as well to move because she does not have adamantium on her skull. Also Logan's healing factor is affected by both the corn Syrup and the adamantium poisoning.

    I think the last scene where Logan says "so this is what is feels like" could be because of a bunch of different things like what dying feels like or what having a daughter/family feels like since its the first time he's had anyone to call him daddy

    The original plan for Logan was to have Sabretooth as the main villain, but the director changed it to be X-24 in order to make the story more centred on Logan's personal struggle against himself and his history.

  • @SibylWhisp

    The thing that still sticks with me the most when X-24 shows up is that yeah, when Charles is going on about a lovely night and everything, your hackles are raised because you know it can't last, you know something has to happen and 'Logan' standing in the doorway was raising all kinds of alarms but I couldn't rationalize it. I didn't even think about the possibility that it was a dream or something, and I was like 'maybe it's someone else' but the problem was Charles looked over his shoulder, saw someone he trusted, and him not panicking lured me into a false sense of security for those precious few moments. So him getting stabbed suddenly by a young wolverine fucked me up.

    I'm so late, I just watched the movie last night and I have to say I loved it. The fight scenes were amazing, the CGI was on point. Yes it's sad and I hate to see Hugh Jackman go but this was the only way for him to go... A freakin blood bath! I want to see where they go from here. Great review guys! 👍

Btw, I loved origins and the wolverine....everyone hates them but Hugh Jackman made those films watchable. Truly gonna miss this incarnation of wolverine! Bravo 👏🏼

    There isn't an Eden. "Eden" was basically a code name for the coordinates of the rendevous point. When they got there, they arranged for asylum to Canada, so when Logan dies, they weren't trying to get to Eden; Laura had already driven them there. They were just crossing the border.
    Also, the coordinates weren't "everywhere". They were in the comic book (where they got the idea), on the photo (which Laura used as a memento and a reminder of where to go) and on the cash (that Gloria gave to Logan, so he'd know where to go). That's not an unreasonable amount.

    Logan is the best there is at what an X-Men movie should do. I doubt we'll see a movie with X-Men characters like this for a long time.
    I think we should treat all the X-Men movies as an anthology series rather than a cohesive franchise. Each movie pretty much is a standalone. As an anthology, you can forgive the conflicts in continuity (which are just too numerous to resolve.)

    In the comics he didn't go crazy. Mysterio tricked him into thinking that Villains were invading the school trying to kill the students(kids). Wolverine told the kids to go get the X men and got pissed that they didn't come so he went berserk mode and slaughtered all the villains which was soon revealed that to be his team

  • @theeLonelyRedPanda
    @theeLonelyRedPanda 7 лет назад

    James howlett was his original born name. He adopted the name logan later in life.
    In the Old man Logan comic, Wolverine didn't go crazy. He was tricked. Tricked in the sense that he truly believed he was fighting super villains and killing them. As to how he got tricked was by a spiderman super villain who was tasked to personally target wolverine. That villain is mysterio, he casts illusions that all look, feel and sound real. What does wolverine rely on his animalistic senses, you take that away/use it against him, he's basically fucked example when he set out to find the winter soldier, he leads wolverine into a newspaper factor and he fights wolverine covered in ink which allows bucky to do sneak attacks and make it harder for him to get a scent since the whole building smells of ink. In all you suceed by tricking his senses into believing that he's seeing/smelling. But in reality unknown to him till it was to late and later revealed he was actually fighting and killing off the x-men. Logan succeeded because mysterios illusion was so perfect, and wolverine was so caught up in the act of defending the mansion and trying to find the x-men while cutting down these "villains". Mysterio himself said something along the lines as you arrogant fool thinking you could kill all these villains all by yourself, but you know who you could kill, your friends because they would hesitate.

    It's not at all related to the comics, but it might be interesting if they use the kids from Logan in a Runaways-ish type story. Obviously not the Runaways story, but the group of kids with a common background becoming an actual team. It could breathe some new life into things with new stories unique to the MCU and doesn't have to be based on the comics.

    The kids didn't want to use their powers because they realized they were being used as weapons to kill people. Being controlled. Hints the reason why one of the kids on a scene jumped off the building rather than accept being used. So, when the kids were running through the woods, they only used their powers when they absolutely needed to.

    I'd love a film where you have Laura and the other kids like 10 years down the road, in their 20s being the new X-Men.
    Also I really hope Fox takes the opportunity, now some of their major players are leaving the franchise, to do a FULL reboot and just do the X-Men properly now. Marvel-up the costumes, make it more fun and adventurous. Basically, make X-Men films the way Marvel Studios would.

    Donald Pierce was a reaver, she the reavers from the comics were all cybernetic mercenaries that really hated mutants. At one point, they were even led by Lady Deathstrike, who was actually used back
    in X2.
    I kinda equated the comics to being like the stories they used to publish back in the wild west, about gunslingers that were still out there doing shit.
