Ever since I got to ride with Pepsi Pete on his self loader 30+ years ago when I was just a little guy and he came and hauled a load of logs from our place I've always wanted to run a self loader. This is the closest I've gotten to doing that yet... Thanks for the great video!

Enjoyed that video, grew up in a logging family in northern WI, the throttle lock never worked. Mostly loaded out of skidder piles back in the 70s. It's all automated now days

You and I must think a lot a like. As I watch I was guessing what logs you would grab and where they would go. I could get the where they were going most of the time by the way you set yourself up on the last group of logs. Crazy how we can be thousand miles apart with way different stories and I can totally understand and see what you’re trying to do.
Great video, great comments. Hopefully this didn’t creep you out!

All I ever fooled with was a Barco a little and the G-model Prentice on the old Chevy Toro-flo. Years ago. You did good and there is NO hemlock here thanks to another plague from Asia. BLESSINGS,

Need a swamper to hold the pedal down for the higher revs. Gonna have to give the buckerman a kick in the nutz and tell him to clean up them logs a bit better ffs hahaha

Looks like you have the same fun I do, my hook truck I gotta jam the throttle to run the loader to, but sometimes as I load the pipe or tire brake tool slips off and you lose your throttle... Lot's of fun, thank you for the video well done my boy's and I enjoyed it. What brand is your loader?

I noticed your swing gear or swing drive was out side the turret, I run a Vanguard 1028 on a 2007 T-800 Kenworth. I learned on a Olympic the controls are backwards for me now, anyways I've done lots of short logs with the first hook truck I ran, was interesting.

curious do you try to balance the load weight wise ie not top heavy.

    • @skadill

Not much, unless its light cedar and heavier fir or hemlock together, then Not keeping all the fir to one side or up high on one side.

Truck is rigged for a trailer, but it doesn't have one, it would defeat the purpose of it grabbing short logs, small jobs, tight places.

cut them teeth off the bunks and replace em with a peice of 1/4 or 5/16 flat bar on it side, works well enough, my trunk bunk has teeth cut into the knive, etc both annoying and nice, annoying cause logs won't slip sidewards, but nice cause you can get crooked alder to stand up and not get hung up on the frame going over rail road tracks... well... mostly

You need a longer stick for your throttle lock, LOL.

It is an aggravating problem, because under proper electronic throttle hold, the rpms never lug down, currently, with this manual bandaid way, it loses more and more speed and rpm the harder and faster it works. I can load darn near twice as fast as this.
