    The ride imagineers: "Well it's a thrill ride with a 50ft drop, so let's theme it for babies too young to ride it... And it's a nine minute long ride so let's give it a twenty second storyline.. And lastly our movie had really colorful characters with a great villian so let's make it about a twitching okra plant and a static beaver with unblinking eyes and a washboard."

      @marcylopez9833 Yeah, but like they said, it could be he is now one of the "friends on the other side." It would be so cool to see those creepy little voodoo dolls dancing around with swirly colors as we "shrink down."

    • @filmfreak11
      @filmfreak11 5 месяцев назад +9

      Here's my thought: Dr Facilier finds an escape from the other side. Now in order to stay in the real world, he'll have to find a soul to replace his. He casts a spell to transform riders into frogs. The room before the final lift hill looks like the "Friends on the Other Side" sequence with voo doo dolls drumming and dancing. Then enter the mouth of an oversized voo doo mask to the lift hill. Mama Odie casts a counter spell that sends Dr Facilier back to the Other Side. Mama explains the frog curse will soon break with Shadow Man gone. In the meantime, she throws us back free into the bayou. And down the final lift hill you go.

    • @rickpontificates3406

      I agree, not having Dr. Facilier 😢 was such a missed opportunity for the drop! I like Mama Odie, but there's no sense of peril or danger on this ride at all anymore. It's all about happy-go-lucky critters and nothing else 😂. Sometimes, you need a little danger to create that excitement.
      People always make the argument that Dr. Facilier is dead now, so they can't include him. But didn't he work with spirits? Don't you think they can just bring him back to life? That would be such a great continuation! They bring back dead characters all the time in horror movies, so it's not that big of a deal. They really should have included him!

    Not only is the Disneyland flume so much quicker but it’s also the only “log flume” ride of the two versions. WDW’s version is technically a boat ride system. This is why the Disneyland version also feels a little more thrilling to ride.
    Also, yes, Dr. Facilier should’ve been the one to shrink us down the first time and then the shrunken down part of the ride could’ve been more ominous. Then, Mama Odie could’ve been the one to save us and make us big again. Then that would’ve been perfect for the celebration at the end. In its current iteration, that actually wouldn’t be too hard for Disney to change since it’s all screen effects down there and all they’d have to do is change the lighting. In fact, it would be cool if there were two versions of the story.

  • @kentslocum

      I think this is another example of imagineering designing some for Disneyland and shoehorning it into WDW.
      The show scene count was designed to fit our shorter flume length leaving gaps in Walt Disney World. The Disneyland version was already already very dark, so the new ride was designed to be set at night. Not only that the drop into slipping fall was enclosed to avoid light leak into the bayou. In WDW that area is still open air. The a concept art for the ride has a scene that we haven’t seen in WDW (Tiana in a boat searching for something) because I’m our version Br’ar Bear is hanging over a pool of water, but in WDW he was over land. Disneyland doesn’t have a wall blocking the view of the first outdoor turnaround.
      I feel like the version in DL will be a more successful conversation. I really wished imagineering had been allowed to design something better suited for WDW MK (but in the end DL is my home park and I’ve never had much love for MK even as a kid).
      As long as Imagineering keeps pouring love into DL I’ll give them a pass with what they do in MK

      @netizen_m3919 5 месяцев назад +1

    @michaelc_1955 5 месяцев назад +7

    Your always pretty spot on with your videos and your constructive criticism is appreciated but when you both say it’s “cute”, I don’t think that necessarily makes it a good ride. It’s a boring ride imo with no element of danger. The storyline is something you would find on Disney Junior. The best Disney rides always have a sense of danger but it seems as though Disney execs don’t want to scare the kiddos away from the franchise. The laughing place are doesn’t really contribute to the story at all. No thrill ride has ever been based on an animation/pixar IP so they want to make it as kid friendly as possible.

    Good video, good critique. The ride clearly had a very limited budget that they chose to concentrate on a few areas of high-quality animatronics. But that leaves too much empty space. Plus the "story" is confused or simply absent. The lift hill is the biggest miss, something they could have easily done with Facilier to build much more of a key story moment.

    Splash Mountain had a much more fluid storytelling concept, compared to Tiana's Bayou. I don't really see this attraction having a wait time that is more than an hour and a half, outside its honeymoon phase, which I give it about 6 to 9 weeks. It will have an average wait time range of about 70 to 85 minutes, but there will be a significant 20% drop in wait time 56 to 68 minutes around week 4 and 5, then it will drop further by 30% to 39 to 51 Minutes, during 7 and 8 weeks. Tiana's Bayou overall average wait time moving forward from week 9, will dance around 30 to 45 minutes, both are good times, but not great in terms of it being a premium E-ticket attraction, compared to Splash Mountain.
    Cons:
    Too many dead spots through out the attraction, in-between scenes
    The thrill isn't there, the story is lackluster,
    I'd rather watch the Disney flick, Tiana, on Disney+, than to ride this ride.
    Pros
    The ending is detailed through.

Like why wouldn’t Tiana hold this great celebration at her iconic restaurant, her shared dream with her father that was such a prominent point of the film?? The place where they already had a band if you’ll recall in the ending (Firefly Five plus Lou)..? 🤔 (P.S. The little boy playing the drums is Naveen’s younger brother) °o°

    I am 100% on board with getting Dr. Facilier back for the ride. I had a similar idea before where His soul was damned to wander the swamp, always being monitored by the evil spirits he made deals with. I like the idea of having a fake out and diverting path. Having the guests go a different way, and get found by the evil spirits and Spirit version of the Dr. His motive would probably be once again to get you to strike a deal with a spirits.(Something along the lines of: I heard you were looking for band members. You should hear how my friends sing) We get lured down the drop and all the evil spirits are there to try and collect our soul. And someone steps in to intervene before the deal is made.
    I loved the scene where Dr.Facilier reaps what he sowed. I like to think for the ride, having Mama Odie intervene with the deal makes the spirits mad at spirit Facilier drag him away. But not before he grabs us, taking us up the hill.
    We get freed at the peak of the hill and as we slide down we see Facilier get swallowed

    I like what you said about a dark side they could have totally thrown some voodoo in there, spirit faces, fog filled cemetery with mausoleums. Also instead of Louis bumping the log in the wrong direction it could have been an monster eddy (giant whirlpool) with projections helping the effect. Also like I mentioned in your other video, more lightning bugs, magnolias, they could do Louisiana irises. The ingredient walls def need to go. Overall I’m excited the way it looks a couple minor fixes could make this a great ride.

    Great thoughts! I feel like I’m in the minority, the only thing I don’t really like is that big wall/mural at the beginning. Everything else feels like a step up in my opinion. These are just my thoughts and totally cool if people disagree, but I think we often give Splash too much credit. It’s a huge nostalgia thing, the story I feel most people only know because they’ve been on it a hundred times, snd it was just outdated. Don’t get me wrong, one of my all time favorite attractions, but I feel the need to separate these two rides because they aren’t comparable. What they did with Tiana’s and all the insane animatronics and swamp environment I think is amazing. I think I’ll love Tiana’s once I can ride! Splash will forever be missed and was a huge classic for Disney. Tiana’s looks well done to me and a worthy retheme.

      There are for sure upgrades in the attraction. But I will say I’m disappointed in the empty spots of the ride like the voids of nothing on one side. You have some really pretty scenes and then on the other side it’s nothing.
      For me that’s the biggest missed opportunity.
      Other than that the ride is cute and I think the animatronics are the star.

    I've heard a lot of people complain about the fence going up the second lift. The fence was there during Splash Mountain's reign. It just blended in a little bit better with the outside of Splash and the drawing on it make it look a little cheap and noticeable.
    Speaking of the second lift, from what has been stated when you go up it Tiana is to the left, gently swaying her hands until a censor is tripped, then she will go into full motion and this happens again inside before going down the second hill. Some have said its kind of creep to see it in person because you expect them to be performing continuously as the character's in Splash did.
    My dear "close" friend Brer Bear and I spent so much time at this mountain, we have noticed the large amount of empty space throughout the ride. I get its at night in the bayou, but WDI stated these animatronics where the best of the best, but there is hardly any due to that you CGI'ed a hand drawn animation into Pixar videos. What I get out of it the story line was not good and we will put Tiana here and there and people will not noticed, well we did.
    People will love it and some, like me, will maybe grow to like it but this has not done any justice for Splash. WDI killed a ride for what? It is stated Bob Iger called it boring, with that I would have stopped all work and went back to story boarding to see what could be done. I am speechless that Bruce Vaughn let something like this happen.
    PS thanks for the two dance Okra WDI.

    But if you’re gonna go on a ride, it should be both effective during the day and during the night. The animatronics that they use some were very, very current. Well others you can see are not current making the effects, especially during the last scene flawed because they really do not look Like they group together well. Also, there was a lot of space that they had to deal with and they did not do it well because the plants and everything looks very cheap even inside the ride. I really don’t think that the music was that grade either and it didn’t sound 100% New Orleans. New Orleans music stems from the gospel church and the song does not have that flare. It wasn’t a song that once you get off the right you’re gonna not to hum it and just forget it. Disney did not use it all to bake it better, but its flaws are going to showovertime.

I saw some people saying how Ray was still alive in the ride even though Facilier isnt which i think they were referring to him singing Going Down the Bayou so thats a bit confusing to me. I wish they wouldve just done more new songs instead of recycling almost all of the og ones since they keep saying it takes place after the movie. They have only one-two movements each (eg. Side to side or foot tapping etc). I just think way too much money goes into the showstopping animatronics. The whole thing is giving Na'vi River Journey vibes where it's all just darkness, some foliage, some screens, and then a really expensive animatronic. And then there's the multiple Tiana's explaining everything to riders like it's designed for preschoolers. Such a shame
